Umami BBQ & Sushi

Went with my wife for 4th of July. Walked in to a completely empty restaurant, was worried at first. But the service, food and atmosphere was all great! We had the spicy edamame, a Salmon Ceviche roll and fried rice. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for great sushi and Japanese. Thanks to Stephanie for the great service

First time coming to Umami, it was recommended by a few friends. Went with boyfriend & parents and shared everything !! They have everything ranging from grill items to raw fish (something for everyone )

Great location, near shopping with plenty of parking. Love the look, feel and atmosphere inside, upscale, but casual enough for lunch, but also being sleek enough for an elegant dinner date. Hostess was friendly, and seated us right away, dining area was a choice of tables or booths. Our waiter got us drinks quickly and walked us through the menu. We tried different things on the menu based on recommendations and glad we did. Everything was amazing!!! Some of it seriously blew our mind and our taste buds. I have had Sashimi before, but none have been close to what we had at Umami. Umami is on the next level of dining from seafood to short-ribs. We will definitely be back to further explore the menu as everything we tried really did impress and left us wanting more, but at a certain point you have to push away and save some exploration for future visits. You can only indulge so much on the first visit of what will be many more.

Such a warm, welcoming vibe upon arrival! If you sit at the sushi bar, ask for Omar! What a sweetheart. Super kind and attentive. I ordered a chirashi and tailored it to my liking! The sushi is fabulous!! Can't wait to go back and try the Uni! Would love if they'd throw in soup and house salad with the sushi combos but what they have is excellent! Love the pickled cucumbers and fresh wasabi! Everything was so fresh!

Excellent sushi. Great happy hour deals. Good drinks. A little pricey if you go off happy hour.

We stopped in for a quick lunch while we were in the area and were pretty disappointed. First there was only one person serving and bartending which was too much for one person and caused a lot of delay while other workers seemed to be waiting around. There were only three or four tables but everything took a while. I didn't fully understand the menu and it wasn't explained. We quickly chose appetizers after being visited twice in two minutes asking for drinks and appetizer order. The food we ordered was a bust. After eating our appetizers (brought at separate times), we were finally able to place our order-- the bartender/waiter got very busy at this point. (At one point considered leaving bc the wait to order was so long.) Each food item was brought out one at a time. Don't know if this is typical. The fried chicken tapas looked nothing like the pictures (see the pic I posted), was not good, and I am positive they made it wrong. The mushroom tapas were also not great. I actually couldn't finish my one piece I tried but my husband said it was ok. On the other hand, the sushi was fine. And I actually liked the Scottsdale roll. The flavor profiles of the food were not complex. Everything seems to be topped or served with an orange mayo-type sauce that is somewhat bland. You can see it in all these pics. The server was nice and did his best under the circumstances. But I would not return. The rest of the staff needs to help front of the house.

We went on a Tuesday at 4:30pm. First the great stuff... our server was perfect, explained the menu and ordering process. Water and drinks arrived right away. We had no problem using the YELP checkin feature whitch got us a free yakatori! We got the spicy beef and the pork belly which were both delicious. Then we ordered asstd. nigiri, a couple of regular rolls and one "fancy " roll, the firecracker! All of them were edible but we both thought the fish was not the freshest, the seaweed wraps were very chewy and in reflection, we would opt to try other sushi places before returning here. Ambiance was industrial, not noisy , the menu was large with many choices.

First of all you have to recognize this is NOT authentic Japanese sushi. It's Mexican and American infused. It is absolutely delicious! That being said I'll tell you what my wife and I ordered.I had the stuffed mushrooms as an app. Insanely delicious. It was stuffed with cream cheese and crab plus the mushroom was deep fried with spicy mayo on top. The flavors altogether were nothing short of perfection. My wife ordered the deep fried gyoza. It was stuffed with veggies and chicken. She felt it was slightly underwhelming. Good flavor but too crunchy and seemed overcooked even for something that's fried. On to the sushi. My wife had the Golden Tiger roll and she loved it! Very good, a little spicy and just a nice balance of flavors. I had the Las Vegas half roll. Phenomenal! Spicy in all the right ways. It had good spice but it wasn't overwhelming so you could still taste the genius of the flavor concoction. I highly recommend this place if you want good food but are sick of the basic and ordinary things you can order anywhere else. Hostess and waitress were very attentive and kind! The atmosphere was really nice for a fun night out. Check this place out if you're hungry and looking to hang out!

Waiters and service are nice but the food there is horrible as a Japanese person they don't use sushi rice the fish is not cut properly it's overpriced and what sushi place is Korean. Just woke up this morning and felt like throwing up I assume it's the sushi rice and the Ikura(Salmon Roe) if you want authentic Japanese food don't go here as the food is old and the avocados in my roll were brown. This place is for party's not Japanese food. DO not recommend
