TunaVille Market and Grocery

We stop in Tunaville Market & Grocery every time we can. We love walking down by the water and stopping in to see what fresh seafood dish we can't pass up that day. I love their octopus, whether in a salad or delicious pieces of tentacle, I look forward to it each time. Tommy is there sometimes and a couple of times we have just missed him. He and his staff are so sweet and friendly, they make it more of an experience. Tommy gave us a taste of Swordfish spinal marrow of some type garnished with lime zest and it just melted in your mouth, one of the tastiest bites of food I have ever had. It was so fun to talk with Tommy, he spoke quite a bit with our son who is getting ready to enlist in the Coast Guard, and then signed a book and gave it to him. If you are in the area, stop by and see what they have, everything is so good!

Tommy Gomes has been beloved in San Diego forever. Now he's famous as the Fishmonger. It has not gone to his head!Being able to talk with Tommy about all my seafood questions, and getting to buy seafood from the market is literally in my top 10 reasons to be grateful for living in San Diego. If you haven't been yet, you should go this week

Bluefin Tuna Poke and Campechana (seafood cocktail) are both excellent and authentic at this fish market. I ended up asking for a fork and ate the poke overlooking the marina; no rice necessary! They sell beautiful fresh fish, locally caught and unloaded off the boat, and also have a large selection of prepared deli style fish: poke, ceviche, campechana, and smoked fish. The location butts up against the Naval Base Harbor Drive Annex and is a building or two from Jimmy's Famous. There's a few spots reserved for Tunaville next to their building. The entrance faces the marina docks. Once you go there, you won't be able to buy fish anywhere else again. The guy working was friendly and very knowledgeable- he knows his fish!

Clean, well managed fish market. Fresh local fish from the boats outside the shop. They also have various types of smoked fish and a few other what-nots you might need for your meal. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. If you like to cook your own seafood, this is the place to go! Plenty of free parking around the back; the front door is around the building by the water.

No photos of the smoked scallops or shrimp done today because we WOLFED it down as soon as it came out of the wrappers and onto a plate! So delicious with just the right amount of heat! There are many more delicacies available and all are displayed creatively and simply too! It's so nice inside to see all staples and fish easily. Service is so impeccable and polite. My favorite fishmonger in San Diego!

If you are looking for super fresh and quality fish and seafood, this is your spot. Come here, ask them questions. The staff is passionate and knowledgeable and you will learn something new.

Been coming here since shortly after they opened, and used to come every weekend because the quality and service was unparalleled. It's safe to say I've spent thousands of dollars at Tunaville, so this updated review doesn't come lightly. The original staff appear long gone, and the quality of prepared foods (like the ceviche) tastes like it's missing the love it once had. I hate to say it but I feel like the original soul of this place is gone and I fear that's a management issue at the end of the day. You can always tell when staff are happy and the product tastes better when it's crafted by people that not only care about what they do but show this through the relationships they build with their customers. I still drop by from time to time, but am going to start frequenting other nearby options like Chula to see if I can find that magical je ne sais quoi Tunaville once had.

Everything is presented very good very fresh very clean.Tommy is the best fishmonger in town hands down! He's always willing to culture the consumer on the best way to buy fish and sustainable fish for sure. My only disappointment is I went to go buy some PEI mussels last weekend and when you buy mussels obviously you can't see the meat inside until you cook them, but I wish they would try cooking some themselves and seeing how such poor quality the muscles were that I purchased.Not anyone's fault, but if I was bringing in muscles to sell to the public I will try them first and if the quality is not good, I wouldn't sell them to the public.Other than that, I am a regular and will continue to be I just won't buy the muscles anymore. I need to find a better source in town that has big juicy tasty muscles. .

The best and most honest fish mongers in San Diego. Came in the other day and they were able to help guide me and get me exactly what I needed. Their fish is as good as it gets in San Diego, their prices are unmatched for the quality, and they are some of the kindest people you will find. I've been a few times and will continue to go back whenever I'm in need for top quality fish.

I finally made it here after following Tommy on Instagram. I learned about this incredible place from Randy @ Solare restaurant. It is everything I could have asked for. The most delicious seafood while supporting local fishermen and awesome service. Win win and win.I ordered the octopus salad, albacore salad, and potato bomb.I will be back again and again!!!
