Super small liquor store. They sell enough to find something but not a huge variety. The prices were a bit high. The front of the store had a bit of a weird smell which kind of prompted me to leave right after briefly looking around. The worker was nice and seen that I had a HK wallet and told me about all her HK stuff.

It's a dingy and dirty place, which I might forgive if they were honest. The clerk took my credit card, ran it, and then said that his machine was broken and it hadn't worked. So, I gave him a $20 bill for a $7.75 bottle of wine. He gave me $7.25 in change. I had to spread the money out on the counter and count it twice with him before he agreed to give me the remaining $5 in change.By the time I got out to my car with the wine, I was suspicious about the broken credit card machine. I checked my credit card app and sure enough, there was a pending transaction for $7.75. I went back into the store and explained politely what had happened. The clerk refused to look at my phone, but just kept repeating, "I can't get to the money, what do you want me to do?" Since I'd already told him twice that I wanted my cash back, I then said that I needed a written receipt from him for the cash transaction that I could show my bank for a credit reversal, since he hadn't given me anything for the sale. Miraculously, he was able to open the register drawer at that point, which he hadn't been allowed to do up until then. But wait, there's more.He gave me $8 in cash and told me to keep the change. I left the money lying on the counter until I could dig out a quarter and hand it to him. Then I took the bills. Yeah, I was feeling a little paranoid by then. There are five large chain hotels within walking distance of this store, and I suspect that the store owners count on transient customers who aren't coming back to complain (I'm from out of town myself). I feel lucky to have escaped without further problems.Never ever again.
