Vera Jailhouse Grill

If you happen to be facing some Jail Time and the judge asks where you want to serve it, ask for the Vera Jail. They don't lock the door and it is right next to a very good café. Delicious jail food like you have never tasted. There is nothing more relaxing and beautiful, than driving the back roads of Oklahoma on a cool crisp fall morning. Even better if your destination is a small-town café. You step out of the truck and smell the invigorating fresh air, mixed with a hint of cow pasture and a whiff of smoke from the rural home's fireplaces. Country breakfast and hospitality is about to be served up with a fresh cup of coffee.Step inside. Your first task is to pick your drink. Coffee is brewing to your right, sodas and other cold drinks are in the coolers on the north wall (left side). Make your selection, then grab a seat at one of the big wood slab tables. Don't be in a hurry. You will have enough time to pick out your breakfast and change your mind several times before the friendly young lady shows up to take your order. Simple pancake and bacon for my wife. A version of my favorite breakfast for me. (check the pictures) When the young lady heads to the kitchen your order will be out soon. Very good food. Comfortable, real laid-back atmosphere. Friendly service. If you lived here, you'd be dining with your neighbors. I love these places. The burgers are rated as the "bomb!"When you are ready to leave, pay the head jailer up front. He's been keeping an eye on you the whole time. Pay your fine, with a generous tip and go on about your life. Oh, you do know where Vera is, right?

The Son and I made the 10 mile-ish trip to Vera for lunch just to try out the Jail.This place is wide open, with three long trestle tables for dining. A cool fact about those tables, if you notice, they are all three single slab, live edge pieces of wood. That's impressive.Now, on to the food.Burger and tots were the order of the day for me, while The Son went with the venerable Chicken Fried Steak.As for my burger, it was outstanding. Patties nice and thin with a great crust, insides piled high amid gooey cheese. Tots were cooked to perfection as well.The Son's CFS was also well made. Fork tender beef with a flavorful battered crust on the outside, and a decent sized bowl of gravy to cover the steak and a little extra for the fries.Our server was friendly as all get out, in spite of being on the literal verge of delivering her first kid.Well worth the drive up to Vera, but I'd for sure plug the place into your map app, because once in Vera, it's not all that easy to find.

Finally made it the short drive down 75 for lunch at the Jailhouse Grill. Went with a friend from church. He had an Oklahoma onion burger that looked great. I had their queso burger after seeing a rave review on it online. It was a good burger. I can't say it lived up to the hype. But I'll be back. There was a burger with sausage I must try. The mushroom Swiss looks promising as well. The fries were good as well. The restaurant is setup as a small town cafe. Three or four rows with good size tables. The staff were helpful and friendly. Prices were average for these days.

First timer, very happy I stopped in! Very friendly and accommodating staff. Got the Big Daddy Burger & curly fries. Both were very, very good. Will stop in again next time I'm in the area!

A hidden gem just 5 miles north of Collinsville. Great burgers at a very decent price! Good ol family-owned business. Don't let the outside looks of the building fool ya.

seating was limited to about 25 people with no customer service. My husband ordered the queso burger which he did give a 10 score. I ordered the chili cheese (which is my favorite burger) but the burger came out with cold chili. Huge disappointment. I would have chosen a bag of chips over the fries, had I known the quality before ordering. This was our first stop for our 2024 adventure of the best overall burger experience.

This is a hidden gem i hate to review. Reminds me of an old country town cafe from long ago. Food was on point ! Looked like fresh country eggs and home made sausage. Very tasty. Beautiful drive getting there from Tulsa. We took the back roads. If you're not in a hurry and like country folks, ...makes for a fun day.

Service is friendly and fast. Hamburger tastes great. Great atmosphere. The place had lots of customers. Glad we came and will recommend.
