The Outsiders House Museum is a Tulsa gem, especially considering its modest size. Though not very big, it's packed with interesting memorabilia from the movie that will keep you engaged as you wander through. The best part are the volunteers. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do and they are eager to share stories and little-known facts about the history behind the movie and exhibits. Their passion really brings the place to life. While we were there we met some fans who had traveled from out of state just to visit. We also chatted with the photographer who was a neighborhood local at the time of the filming and happened to capture behind the scenes photographs on set. He now sells photographs onsite and had some fun stories to share.Parking is convenient with a small lot out back, but if that's full, there's usually plenty of street parking nearby. There is a great little gift shop to check out before you leave as well. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Even though it was closed. I still was giddy at seeing the Outsider House!!The house still kinda looks like it did (run down) on the outside but that just gives it more authenticity!!!!The groundskeeper "left" the gate open so we could peek in the house (I could see Two-Bits Mickey Mouse Shirt display) and take some pictures on the porch!!!We also went to the park where the Rumble was filmed!!!!* Side note: there is absolutely No Signage on the fence to state that it is the house so trust your Google Maps!!!!

I love The Outsiders (novel and movie) but I have to say I was not too excited about going. I just thought it would be something mildly cool to do on a weekend when some friends suggested we visit The Outsiders House.OMG! Whether you're a child of the 80s, or a child who read The Outsiders in MS English recently, go!!!! Go as soon as you are able. Go!The volunteer docents are great and so excited to share their expertise. There's just so much in this little house (but it's not jam packed like some private museums). Joe Cervantez, an extra on the film and unofficial photographer behind the scenes, is there most weekends to share his first-hand knowledge. He also has photos for sale. If you are so inclined, you can recreate the chocolate cake/Budweiser scene, too. So thankful that Danny Boy O'Connor saved this relic and built this museum to recreate not only a vital memory from most everyone's childhoods but also to keep Tulsa history alive.

My goddaughter recently read the book in junior high and loved so I swung by the museum store to look for a gift and was able to find her a Stay Gold Tshirt and some stickers but decided against popping into the museum. My bookclub recently finished Rumblefish and decided to come and visit the museum and we were so glad we did. I admit my expectations were low. It's $10 per person. I was a bit worried being an older house, it wouldn't have a/c but I learned that the house had been renovated and restored and so it was nice and cool inside. I loved the 80s memorabilia, the knowledgeable docents and even an extra from the film. It was nice to learn more about S E Hinton as well. It is definitely worth a visit.

I was not one of the 70% of school kids assigned The Outsiders to read. I have seen the movie, however, this is a fun place to visit whether you are a diehard fan of the book or not. You get to walk through the house and see clothes that the actors wore in the movie. Be sure to have your picture taken on the couch and check this museum off of your Tulsa bucket list.

Since I was here 3 years ago, a lot of good changes have happened and I am glad I am here again to see in person. Both my Uber drivers knew all about the house and it's history and they themselves have been here. I look forward to coming back this weekend to see the inside of the home. I have been waiting a long time for this!Thank you for putting this all together and for your hard work in restoring the house.

I have been teaching SE Hinton's "The Outsiders" for the better part of a decade to my 7th grade language arts students. We have a huge community event when we finish the book- a drive-in movie experience complete with candies and snacks from the 1960s. Visiting the renovated movie house and nearby movie locations within a few blocks and Sperry, OK a few miles away was such a cool experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who's read the novel, watched the film, or is just discovering the story thanks to Broadway's newest musical. Everyone at the museum (including Joe Cervantes- who was an extra in the film and shares his experience and original photos), in the gift shop, and in neighboring locations were so knowledgeable, so kind, and generous with their time and their experiences. I won't lie- the area definitely looks like the Curtis boys grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks" when you are driving in, but it is safe and so worth the trip! The Rexall Shop and DX Station in Sperry are a must to head to after the house- the Rexall is soon to be opened (hoping for early 2025 if not sooner) as a coffee house, cafe, and soda fountain featuring the era and the film. The new owner was there when we passed through and she welcomed us in to show us spots where scenes were filmed, both inside and out. A sweet passerby stopped to take our picture at the DX Station. It was a great day in Tulsa!

Visiting Tulsa and looking for things to do? Put this on your list! So...what is this place? It was used as the Curtis Brothers' home in the movie "The Outsiders". It is a movie set and museum all rolled up in one. There are lots of pics and original props throughout the home and/or items similar to the ones used. You can sit down on the floor with a cake & beer like Two-Bit did, or sit at the desk as Ponyboy did for fun or a great pic. Sure, this is just a movie set house and not based on a true story, but a good part of us can relate to someone in the book, the movie, and/or the messages we got from the story in general. When you tour the home...you can almost be transported to another era, another time, and really relate to the characters in the story. How was this possible? A longtime fan of the novel and movie is Hip Hop artist Danny Boy O'Connor. He visited the home on a tour and just couldn't shake how the home should be preserved. In 2016, he bought the home and the work began. They are still working on it, but it's been open to the public for a few years. I am impressed with the preservation of this home...they really did a good job. It is such a great story and this is a wonderful place to preserve the story forever. I would suggest watching the movie before you go or watch it again to refresh your memory. Some of the workers at the museum were extras in the movie and it's fun to hear their stories. Please be advised they are only open Friday-Sunday from 11am - 4pm...so plan accordingly. There is a small parking lot in the back and a few parking spaces along the street. Please keep in mind this is in a neighborhood, so please respect private property and keep the noise level down. There is a cool gift shop with restrooms as well. If you're a fan of the book or movie, it's worth a stop! Just go...do it for Johnny! Stay Gold!
