I saw my first show at Sooner Theatre, the musical Mamma Mia and it was truly a delight! I went to an afternoon Sunday show and was not disappointed! My seats were in the second row but honestly I think any seat would be fine in this theater. Seats were very comfortable, lights, camera and audience participation were all on point. The greeters and snack servers were so nice and friendly! I can't wait to go again and again!! Thank you Sooner Theatre staff and performers for a wonderful afternoon of music!

OMG this theatre is beautiful! The stage is awkward, but it does its job. The parking didn't seem bad to me, and if you get there late you'll probably have to walk a bit but you'll find a spotThere are a bunch of restaurants and bars around so it's easy to get there early or hang out after to hop around for eats and drinks. The theatre sells snacks and drinks, and has a cute lobby for us to be in but by cute I mean tinyI think the brick around the interior is really pretty with the other stone accents around the interior wallsThe seats are comfy but space can get cramped if two big people sit next to each other; this could create an unenjoyable experience. I had to get up and move because of this, but the show wasn't full and it allowed for a spontaneous seat swap

The Sooner Theatre opened her doors for the first time in 1929 as the first movie theatre in the region built to show "talking pictures." Architect Harold Gimeno spared no expense while building the Spanish Gothic Style building, spending over $200,000. Mosaic tile and Italian marble were imported for the project, and a special ladies' lounge was installed on the mezzanine level. The ceiling is adorned with 252 Spanish coat-of-arms, which were hand painted by the Patricio Gimeno, the architect's father. The theatre even boasted refrigerated air and cooled water fountains. The audience gasped in surprise when the first "talkie," Alias Jimmy Valentine played; the actors were speaking! After working frantically throughout that first show to cue the oversized records with the miles and miles of cellophane tape, the projectionist quit in disgust. Moving pictures were "too darn complicated" and, he predicted, they would not last.It was the 1970s and movie theatres became multiplexes and the single screened Sooner just couldn't keep up with the demand. In 1975, the Sooner Theatre closed with Attack of the Amazons. It seemed that the only future visitor the Sooner Theatre could look forward to was the wrecking ball.A dedicated group of citizens refused to lose the theater, and appealed to the City of Norman under the aegis of The Sooner Theatre, Inc. The City agreed to purchase the theatre and lease her to them for a dollar per year. After the first phase of restoration, Norman's own "Grand Dame" opened her doors again in 1982 as a community performing arts center. The theatre is now listed on both the State and National Registry of Historic Places, and hosts a variety of shows, ranging from ballet and opera to concerts, plays and musicals.

The Missus and I got to see Catch Me if You can here. It was our first time at Sooner Theatre and we were pleasantly surprised. As JoJo, a fellow Yelp Elite has said, the ST is gorgeous! It's not too big, but you also don't feel all cramped up sitting next to others, which might be attributed to the super tall ceiling. Trust me, it's way way up there folks. We didn't get any concessions, but I did see some of the prices and they weren't too bad at all. What's also nice about ST is that it's close to a lot of neat little restaurants and bars. We will definitely try to catch more shows here!

A lovely local theatre with amazing productions! Very appropriate to start your young ones watching theatre here, especially the kids productions by youth. I'm constantly amazed at the great local talent they combine into very entertaining shows. And bonus- you can take in your popcorn and grab a cute show themed gift!

The building is gorgeous and exceptionally maintained. Ticket prices are generally pretty fair and their concessions won't break the bank. I saw Our Town with a friend and thought that the performances were very professional for the most part. Being right by the tracks, you will hear trains if they pass during the performance, but it doesn't last long and even that was charming and made me feel like I was back in Norman during its bustling Old West days.If you want to experience a little culture and local history, make sure you see a show at Sooner Theatre. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance to make a fun night out of it.

The sooner theatre showcases brilliant performances by kids who are bound to broadway. These children are specially trained to almost perfectly preform these shows with professional actors and directors. These children do more than terrible Junior productions but rather put on the real deal and do it excellently.
