This is a gem of a restaurant. It's not easy to find, because it's tucked away on a street that looks like nothing from the cross streets, but it's just off N. Penn in the shadow of NW 39th Expressway. Once you find it the first time, returning becomes easy-peasy.The menu is small; that means everything on it is delicious and well-prepared.I got the plain schnitzel because I love a good schnitzel, Except for the schnitzels I make, this was the best schnitzel I've had outside of Germany. The best. Better than any other German restaurant in town. Way better. So tender you could cut it with a butter knife. Flavorful. Delicately crispy. Utter perfection.I had the red cabbage and potato salad as sides. We made German potato salad with waxy red potatoes; Rainbow Bistro makes theirs with fluffy russets. I think I like the russets better, the vinegar dressing infuses the potatoes. The onions are thin and small and sweet, giving a lovely crunch to the salad. The red cabbage tasted as if it had the wee-est smidgelette of cinnamon in it, which made the cabbage deeper flavored. My Opa would insist on adding such a careful bit of fresh ground cinnamon into the red cabbage, and Rainbow Bistro's red cabbage reminded me of that. Delicious. My companion got the Big Bertha Reuben and loved it. She had the summer harvest soup as her side. It was a excellent side to the sandwich. The chef was very kind, and he beamed when we complimented his food.I love love love a limited menu when every dish is so carefully prepared. You can taste how much he wanted his food to be appreciated, so we made sure to tell him how wonderful it is.His assistant was delightfully charming - helpful, fast, caring. She made you feel comfortable, like you were visiting a friend's kitchen, not a restaurant. She made it cozy.I loved eating there, and plan on returning.

The people were very nice. I won't say the burger was bad, but there was something weird about the meat. It was mushy though it was done and tasted kinda like meatloaf without the tomato sauce and stuff, almost like the meat had a filler in it to save on meat. The bacon on the burger was fried well and the pimento cheese was good. I am not a tater tot fan at all, but the only choices were those, German potato salad which isn't my thing or potato chips so I chose the best of the three choices. It's a very small place but as a said the people are nice and the place is very clean. I don't think I'd go back though, but some of the other stuff may be better. They have a lot of German food.

Alright, something about me, I LOVE BACON CHEESEBURGERS. Now I want to give credit where it's due! The meat on the Bistro burger is FIRE and the Tots were good. The vibe is okay, the service was friendly, and food was good if you are hungry! If you do get a burger please have them toast the burger. The meat is seasoned good to have cold buns. I will come back though.

We decided to test the Rainbow Bistro in the 39th Street district for dinner. The Jagger schnitzel with the hunter gravy for me, and the schnitzel for my wife. Our sides were the red cabbage, potato salad, & potato soup. The crust on the schnitzel was cooked to a golden brown, crispy, & tasty. The hunters' gravy on the other schnitzel was chock-full of mushrooms and meat. The schnitzel was fantastic. The best schnitzel we've had since Old Germany closed down. Both the red cabbage & potato salad were first rate. My wife said that the red cabbage was also the best she'd ever had. The potato soup was a nice warmer upper on this cold, rainy evening. Finally, we finished off our meal with a triple chocolate brownie. Not overly sweet with the right amount of chocolate, yummy! When Ingrid's closed, we had no idea where we would get our teutonic satisfaction. The Rainbow Bistro has filled the bill on that score. The hours are a little different than most restaurants. Thursday through Saturday. Check with the Bistro before driving there. All in all, it was a very nice experience. We will make the Rainbow Bistro one of our regular haunts.

This place is pretty great! If you're looking for a nice little bistro with a German food influence, this is the place to go. Located in the 39th a street district, once you walk inside the Rainbow Bistro, you'll be greeted with a hello and a smile. The bistro is clean and the art is eclectic...expect a lot of personality inside. The menu names are tongue-in-cheek and I had a giggle while deciding what to order. There's outdoor seating, and if you're looking for a quick lunch, you can sit at the counter or take it to-go. There's also parking right in the front. The food is reasonably price (especially for the quality). They have a few traditional dessert selections and they offer Coca-Cola products in the can, ice tea and MOCKTAILS!I had the charcuterie pretzel board. The meat and cheese was really good. It came with three sauces. My favorite was the "awesome sauce". It had a mild curry taste and was great for the pretzel and the meats. The awesome sauce is VERY popular in Germany. The pretzel came out nice and hot and the olives were a great compliment. If you get the large board, it's perfect for two. Next time I plan on trying the "Big Helga" a classic Reuben. This could easily become your regular lunch or dinner stop just give it a try. Pssst, I was told a secret that some exciting new menu items are on the way.

Get your kraut on with a laid back vibe. The German cuisine is a winner. The small staff is very warm and concerned about your comfort. I'll be back often.

Got "Helga All the Way" to go after getting off work late. The potato salad is amazing, made with chunky fresh potato slices. The Reuben was great too. Quick and friendly service.
