Great price found through expedia. We altered the reservation though and the defaulted to the highest rates. They fixed it in the end but it was a little bit of a headache to get there. If we hadn't make the reservation on change, it would have been a good car for a good price.

The cars are cheap but the customer service at the counter is non existent. Was supposed to pick up the car at 7:00am but the attendant did show up until 8:30am. Now on returning there is no attendant to return the car. The car was dirty inside and out. I guess you get what you pay for. And.... It just cost me double what I was quoted. Rent from a reputable company and not this one!

This was my first - and last - experience with Payless Car Rental. I made my reservation for a 3-day rental using Expedia, for pickup at 5 pm on a Saturday afternoon, 7/1/2017. I proceeded to the airport to pick up a car and arrived 15 minutes early. First, there was no one at the check-in counter. No worries, yet - it happens, so you go to the kiosk. There was no one at the kiosk either. I waited until my official pickup time, and went BACK to the counter. There was no one there. In short, I went back and forth between the counter and kiosk looking for something with a pulse for 45 MINUTES. I also called the 800 number twice. The first time, I got, "We don't know why the counter is closed. Go to the kiosk. Or go to the Avis window (it was also closed).". The second time I called, the agent offered to open a ticket for me, noting 72-hour resolution. I had had it. I told him to cancel my reservation.I don't know if my insurance payments, etc. will be refunded or not, but frankly, I don't care. I am NEVER using Avis, Payless, or Avis, again.

Booked a 3 day car rental with Payless through Priceline. The service was a little slow, but overall fine. The car was as advertised, new and clean, and just like renting with the name brand car rental companies. The problem was, quoted on Priceline that I would owe $113 at pickup. I knew there would be extra cost since I needed 2 kids car seats. They charged me $227 in total and I was stuck on a trip with no choice but to rent it. It was $78 for the 2 car seat rental over 3 days! Plus new tax and fees which doubled what the estimate was on Priceline. Overall, the car and service was fine, but they were not honest about pricing. I've never been charged over a few dollars per day if at all with name-brand car rental places. Payless is owned by Budget Rental, but operates a little different. It's a gamble on whether you save any money or get tricked into paying more than the competition.

I booked a reservation yesterday and today the price dropped. Of course I wanted the lower rate, so I began booking it for $3 cheaper. I immediately canceled the higher reservation to avoid the conflict of duplicate reservations. (This did not take more than a minute!) When the lower fare was still on my screen, I confirmed the reservation to find it was now $9 more than what I thought I was confirming. I immediately called the toll-free number that was answered by Armando. He said rates change all the time. I thought it was unreasonable for the rate to change in the middle of a reservation. He apologized to say he could not do anything about it or reinstate the cheaper reservation that I just canceled. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, he said they would tell me the same thing. When I asked to be transferred again, he was confrontational when he asked why I did not want to speak with him. I asked for a supervisor again and said I was at work and did not want to raise my voice. He said I did not have to do that. I informed him that if he continued to delay the transfer, that was going to happen. At that time, he puts me on hold to "see if a supervisor can be found". After being on hold for 5 minutes, I call on my cell phone and Oliver answers. When I told him I wanted to speak with a supervisor (without going into to detail) regarding an issue with another employee, he places me on hold. After about 8 minutes, he returns to transfer me. At this time Armando returns to say they are in a meeting and I should call back in 30 minutes. At this time, I have been on the phone 20 minutes from Oliver's call and the phone has been ringing for 8 minutes for the supervisor transfer. The customer service here is non-existent. I would not recommend this company to anyone trying to secure a rental. To change a rate in the middle of a reservation is the first of this I have seen. I typically do not update reviews, but I just might as I continue to hear the phone ring awaiting that transfer to a supervisor. I am sure the phone will disconnect after a while.

Rental had a flat late at night after closing down Silver Dollar City with three kids 10 and under. No jack in the car and no roadside assistance number provided on the rental documents as the website indicates. Drove very slowly to gas station for help. Called customer service the next day and was told I was "lucky" there was even a spare because they often don't put them in vehicles because they may get stolen. Not even an apology for not providing roadside phone number. Treated rudely, refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor or anyone else with better customer service. Was told a supervisor would be notified and would call me in 3 business days. After no call on day 4, I called and was given the same runaround not letting me speak to a supervisor and again told me they'd contact me in 3 business days. Never received a return call.

I rented a 2022 Toyota Tacoma from Payless Rentals in Phoenix, AZ on 5-22--22, late in the evening. After waiting in the reservation line for an hour, I was directed to the bottom garage area to retrieve the vehicle. As I was approaching the checkout booth for inspection of the vehicle, I was waived through by the garage attendant. No inspection was made by the attendant. I loaded the truck with camping equipment and my family. While on the road, approximately 150 miles from the nearest PayLess Rental, the tire warning light came on, as well as the required maintenance warning light. I pulled over and noticed all four tires had less than 2/32 of an inch of tread on all 4 tires. I made it to the camp site and immediately called for roadside assistance. I was told to take the vehicle to the nearest Payless Rental in Phoenix AZ, for exchange. I called customer service with my complaints and concerns and was given the run around for 3 hours on hold for a supervisor. A supervisor never responded. I will never jeopardize my family's lives, by renting from them again. They weren't interested in my safety and probable won't be interested in yours.

The worst. Stranded at airport. Everything shut down. No signage. No hours of operation posted. Nothing on Payless website indicates that you will not get your researched car after 10pm. So low class.

Renters beware! I rented out a van for about 4 days and here is my confirmation # was 12919822us6 so the people don't think I am making this up and was a total nightmare. Well when I purchase the van online it was initially about $46 a day and taxes and it was Unlimited Mileage and thought everything was fine. I got there and they ask me was the coverage for southern region only so I thought I came to a rental place and instead they were charging me like a wireless provider like asking me what region an I going to drive the unlimited mileage van so I was upset because it will cost $250 more for driving to San Francisco but the lady in the counter without no hesitation gave me a $150 discount because I ask here where does it say that on the receipt on the paper I printed out, The sales rep, replied that I should of read the fine print online before clicking because that it was on it but didn't think too much because once a vehicle says UNLIMITED MILEAGE I thought I can drive it too Africa or anywhere didn't know I need to drive at a certain region of the U.S. On top of that of all this I brought the van 1 day early and talk to the lady in the counter and said that I will get a refund of $38 only because I returnd the car one day in advance that being said just got the bill right now and was paid the total price. This is the reason why I am sharing this rental beware so you don't get stuck like what happen to me and thought everything was okay when I got there and I was not alone notice when I was in the line it took longer than usually because the sales rep probably was trying to explain to the other customer that they just got had and will just have to pay... I had no choice because my friend was also looking for a van and told me that majority of the van was book up for the weekend so I was at there mercy....

This is absolutely the worst car rental place I have ever used. Micaela Marshall is an unhappy harpy. Both women at the kiosk were rude. Neither had an answer to help and didn't care. We canceled that reservation and went straight over to National. There we met Crystal. Crystal is an amazing employee. She had me smiling within a minute. Save the headache and use National. Payless gets mostly negative reviews.
