My sweet husband treated me to a date night at History & Haunts. We were excited, though not sure what to expect out of our evening & this experience was delightful! We started in the old barn, where both employees & several volunteers were there to give us a quick run down of the family & what to expect. Then, we were led to the house & given the opportunity to explore! Each room is opulent with painted ceilings, ritzy carpets & very fancy furniture from the late 1800s. The history is amazing & was so fun to learn about. The volunteers were wonderful & knew a LOT of great facts. We LOVED our time & are hoping to return around Christmas.

The Overholser Mansion...Home to Henry Overholser, the "Father of Oklahoma City". It was the first mansion built in Oklahoma City. Unfortunately, it was closed on the day of our visit. But, we did drive by and walk the grounds of the mansion. There were no signs saying that we couldn't walk around and take photos. So we parked right in front and walked around. The mansion exterior is beautiful. Hopefully, the next time I'm in OKC, I can take a tour and see the interior and hear about the mansion from a tour guide.

I don't like young Halsey very much, but maybe I'll like the Olderhalsey. This is the most gorgeous building that I have seen in Oklahoma City. Especially in terms of classical beauty and architecture. It looks old and yet new. It's different... but the same. Oh wait I was channeling Bill & Ted.It looks so quaint it could be in Disneyland - but it's absolutely real and not fake at all. Unlike my girl. I don't get tired of driving around the back streets of this neighbourhood and seeing this gorgeous building. And there's computers... and SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!

Great repository of early Oklahoma City history in one of the city's finest old neighborhoods.Well worth the visit.Do check ahead before you go, though, as tours (no matter what the placards on the door may say) are NOT always available for those who just drop by.Remember: This place is staffed entirely by volunteers and, well, life happens. The Overholser Mansion is also available to rent out for special events, and I've heard that it's not embarrassingly expensive for those who need a special place for confirmations, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, anniversary parties, etc.

I attended a beautiful event at the Mansion last week. It was a small, intimate concert with Beau Jennings and Willow Way, put on by Fanswell (Graham Colton's platform) and local music website Cellar Door Music Group. The event was wonderful, due in part to the this beautiful venue. We got there right when the event started, and we were still able to park within a block of the venue. Walking through Heritage Hills is always a good start to an evening. We arrived to find a full, but not crowded, carriage house, with a beautiful pressed tin ceiling, globe lights, and room for about 100 seated guests. A small bar was set up in the back, and overflow guests were happy to stand just outside on a cool evening. I would happily host an event here someday. It's been a long time since I toured the actual mansion, but the whole place is a beautiful piece of Oklahoma City history and a lovely place to visit.

I had a great time at this museum. We had a great group of people about 10 of us, mixed in ages. The house has so much history. The guide discusses all aspects of the house and carriage house and is more than willing to answer all questions. Unlike many other house museums, guests are allowed to go up to the other floors with the guide.I am so glad that I made time to check out this museum. I really enjoy visiting homes, there are so many unique items that make the story of the house and people come alive in any era.If you want to learn about a high-society family and the forefathers of Oklahoma City and everything that goes with it -- I recommend taking a tour of this house!

There is a lot of history of this house. The curator was well informed of it's history. It was a short tour but it was nice to see many furniture and pictures of the family whom the home was built for. If you like to go back in time to walk in the shoes of someone in the early 1900's, then this is a great place to see their way of living.

Great place to see what life was like 100 years ago. Everything in the house is original and you can go through the whole house. Lisa and Heather were very good at explaining the history of the home and added colorful commentary.
