What an incredible museum chalked full of Oklahoma history. I was surprised by the expansive displays of significant cultural events, oil & gas and space exploration. Some displays are incredibly nostalgic. I found my way into the research center where I was able to access microfilm to view local newspapers dating back hundreds of years. They have 8x10 photos for sale. You'll find them in binders on the tables. OMRF has a dedicated memorial in this area. This museum is a gem! Stop by and breathe in the rich history of Oklahoma.

We visited on a Saturday and basically had the place to ourselves! I thought it was an outstanding museum that is fairly priced. These days it can get really expensive to visit museums, but this one had just the right amount of exhibits and interactive activities for the reasonable $12.50 adult ticket. I didn't see too many things that little ones would enjoy though. Parking is free (and plenty) and there were some sights outside to enjoy too.We are not typically big readers at museums who view every placard, but we found the exhibits very fascinating and spent over two hours here. I would highly recommend the history center to both people from Oklahoma or out of state!

Attached photos from previous review of Oklahoma History Center. Went here just as a last minute decision after driving by the State Capitol. The Oklahoma History Center is a little difficult to find the entrance & parking, but after driving through neighborhood, finally found it. Discounts Available: Senior (over 62). FREE Admission: Active Duty & Veterans + their dependents (June 29-Sep 4, 2024). This museum has a wide variety of very well done exhibits, from wrestling, aviation, native Americans, pioneers, oil & gas, black history. It is very well laid out, allowing you to visit what you are most interested in, or have time for. I highly recommend everyone seeing it, Okies and visitors alike! Plus it is a beautiful and well maintained facility. It would be an awesome place to have parties or meetings!

I've been assigned to work out in Oklahoma the last few months, so I've been learning about it. So far, the Oklahoma History Center has been one of my favorite spots. I got the whole rundown, beginning to present, for 10 bucks!First of all, the staff is so nice. The volunteer who greeted me (I think his name was Fred?) was great. He gave me an overview of the whole museum and let me know how to make my way around. There are several sections on Oklahoma history, including the natural habitat, industry, and innovation. They cover famous Oklahomans, the role Oklahoma residents played in the various wars of the country and world. There is a section on the musical Oklahoma, a famous Oklahoma steam ship. There is also a space exhibit featuring a real portion of a space shuttle. There are a surprising number of Oklahoman astronauts! My favorite part of this museum, besides Fred and his enthusiasm, was the large section on First Americans peoples (indigenous people). Unlike some other area museums, they were honest and comprehensive in teaching what these people faced. They have a very good video that explains how natives were forcibly removed, tortured, betrayed, and assimilated. I applaud them for this.I toured this museum toward the end of a very busy day, and my brain was overloaded. I only spent just over an hour here, but it deserves at least two probably.Great place to learn about Oklahoma.

This is a great museum! Very well done and easy to navigate through. I went with my children and we had so much fun. There are so many areas with "hands on history" that allow the kids to interact with the displays.

A fabulous museum and an even better special events venue, the Oklahoma History Center is a destination for history buffs and those curious about the sooner state. Operated by the Oklahoma Historical Society, this location has been open for the last 15 years, right next to the Governor's Mansion in OKC.On the outside, the museum looks massive. One might be surprised they only have a handful of galleries and limited exhibitions. It's enough to keep people moving and just enough content to take up a couple hours (or less) to get through it all. There are some museums out there where it could take all day to get through but OHC is no such place. Even the hours reflect as much, as they close at 5pm each day.I think my favorite parts of the museum is the center view with the Winnie Mae replica plane overseeing the lawn of the Governor's Mansion. The antiquated memorabilia is pretty cool and the displays within the various exhibitions (notably Rock & Roll + Tierra De Mi Familia) are definitely photo worthy.Last fall I came here for a wedding reception and was blown away at the museum as a special events venue. It is not only great for large gatherings but they have a number of things in place that make it ideal: clean facilities, ample parking, onsite catering, and indoor / outdoor spaces as well. Folks looking to host a special event should strongly consider the OHC for their future shindig.

I coordinated a wedding here and let me tell you -- the staff was incredible. Most of the time, event centers that have coordinators on site -- expensive coordinators who get territorial and like to do things their way. But not this place -- nope. Absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this venue.

This place is extremely underrated and I say this because every time I've ever been, it's NEVER busy. I think this is a great place to bring your out of town friends who enjoy history because this place is fairly all encompassing of Oklahoma history. It's also a great place to come if you're a lifelong Okie looking to learn some new things. The exhibits are extensive and range from topics like Oklahoma Black history to Native history to business history. There's a great section about Clara Luper and the history of sit-ins in Oklahoma. There's also wonderful information about Oklahomans and the military. My personal favorites have to be the exhibits that cover Oklahoma in pop culture history and the Heroine recreation. They also have a section for a rotating exhibit and those are always neat! There's plenty to do for kids (hands on exhibits) and there's outdoor grounds as well. It seems like there was a cafe at one point, but it seemed to be closed when we were there (not a huge deal because this place is down the street from some fabulous eats). It's such a beautiful place, I hope to attend an event here one day!

Hubby and I loved this wonderful museum. There were so many interactive areas and lots of information on Oklahoma history. We visited on a Saturday, and it was not crowded at all. We were able to take our time and enjoy the museum. There were exhibits on space, transportation, Native Americans, and Oklahoma companies.Wonderful place to learn about Oklahoma and celebrate its history.

What a great museum! It has a total of five galleries on two floors. It is definitely a hidden gem in Oklahoma City. I could've spent the whole day there, but only was able to spend two hours.I was fully entertained and plan on stopping here again sometime.
