Mexicali Border Cafe

Took The Kid and The Wife to lunch the other day and she (The Kid) wanted Mexicali, so there we were.Always on point with flavors and service... never disappointing.The wife had her usual queso fundito/casserole dish, while The Kid had the taco salad. I myself broke form and went with the Wet Burrito.No one had any complaints. The wet burrito was much better than I expected. Not being a huge burrito fan, this one rocked.Queso appetizer was on point, and our server was great.Even though it's a far piece out of my normal operation area, Mexicali is always worth the trip downtown.

This hurts to write this review because this is one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants, but the GM Albert that was at the door last night was the meanest, rudest, most hateful person I have ever came in contact with. We eat at this restaurant before any show we attend downtown and have NEVER been treated the way we were last night. I was so heated I could not believe how incredibly rude this man was, and apparently it is the norm for him to act this way. We spoke with several staff members who expressed their feelings about how he is rude to employees and customers all the time. Albert stated he was the GM, and I honestly have no idea how this man still has his job! Whoever leaves him in charge needs to be let go with him! Absolutely unbelievable! This man put his hands in my face, my friend was so shocked she could not even speak. Then he was rude to the rest of our party when they arrived!!! As we were leaving I let Albert now I was contacting corporate for his behavior and his response was yelling at me that "he is corporate"

This is consistent "basic tex-mex"If you want nachos before a concert or a post-meeting bite, this is a good place. Nothing hear will blow your socks off but it's also rarely bad and isn't full of a bunch of weird "re-imagined" or "artisanal" concepts.

We were in downtown Tulsa and stopped in here for lunch. I may now have to move here because I absolutely loved this place! The service was excellent as our waitress was very attentive. The food and drinks came out fast and the flavors were amazing. We tried an assortment of things including the tortilla soup, blackened chicken salad, lunch nachos with steak, and chicken with vegetables. The vegetables were grilled and tasted like they were cooked on the grill alongside the steak which gave them incredible flavor. I chose the pineapple mango dressing for the blackened chicken salad and they complimented each other very well. All of our choices were wonderful. My beer came with a lime and salted rim and had a nice frothy head to it. The Paloma Rita had a tahine rim and was tasty as well. This was just a great experience for us and I highly recommend a stop in here for some great eats!

I had the Mexico City Tacos. 1 of each: beef,chicken and pork. Tasty, and the Borracho beans (yum)

Been coming here fairly regularly over the last 3 years and have enjoyed every visit. Great margaritas, great service, and tasty food every time. Be sure to ask for the spicy salsa, and try the Posole they serve in the winter. I've had one of their smothered burritos which had fajita chicken and refried beans, wrapped in a big tortilla and topped with a spicy sauce and queso. It was fantastic. Have also had the street tacos, flautas, and green chile enchiladas.

This was my first visit to Mexicali Border Cafe. The overall experience was amazing. Our waitress was cheerful and told us the specials of the day. The special happened to be my favorite which was Hatch Green Chile Chicken Enchiladas with Rice and Beans. Not refried beans but Barracho beans. It is by far the best Mexican food I've had since moving to Tulsa. Being a native Arizonan, I know great Mexican food and this has been the only establishment that has come close to Arizona Mexican food. I've tried many here in Tulsa and I wouldn't recommend or ever return.The salsa is fresh, tasty and will make you break a sweat. I will definitely be going back with the family My personal rating is definitely Two Twirling Forks Up recommendation. Pictures next time.

If I could give less than one star I would. The "host" decided to not seat 3/4 people. Eaten there dozens of times over the last twenty years. 100% made this rule up. Was so rude to my friend in a wheelchair. As long as he is there I won't be going back. He was SO incredibly rude.

Go somewhere else! There is a lot better Mexican food all over Tulsa without the risk of being scammed. We had a large party and it was great that we were seated quickly, but I regret coming here. The service was fine and I know handling a big table is a lot of work. But it would have been nice if my order was correct because I was still forced to pay for food that I didn't receive. The problem was that upon wanting to leave there was nobody in sight so I just had to pay instead of being dishonest. But shame on me because this is the second time this has happened. Regarding the food - it's similar quality to a frozen microwave meal. Definitely overpriced! I got chicken fajitas. The color was off and it was covered with a weird glossy substance. My son got chicken flautas which were mostly a cheesy concoction stuffed into a tortilla and fried. And my husband got a smothered burrito but didn't receive the queso on top. It's literally in the name...how do you miss that?Biggest waste of money on a meal in a long time!

Food and service very good. Margaritas very weak. Very crowded on BOK events nights.
