I recently adopted a puppy from The Tulsa Humane Society who was attending an adoption at Glove Life Park in Arlington last Saturday. On Monday the puppy was a little lethargic. Tuesday evening he had a runny stool and threw-up Tuesday night. I was at my local Veterinary the first thing Wednesday morning where I found out the puppy tested positive for parvo. I am a disabled veteran who was adopting this dog to replace my current service dog. So far, this experience has done the complete opposite of the reasoning behind having a service dog. Not only has my family and myself been effective negatively, but my current service dog allowed a puppy to come into her home and now was suddenly removed for treatment. Unfortunately I had not even had time to add this puppy to my insurance plan. As of now we have paid $751.20 that covers his hospital stay through tomorrow. If he needs to stay longer the cost is $110 per day after that (not including extra or unforeseen medical needs). I think that would be a small price to pay for some extremely positive publicity. I need your decision quickly as I am a disabled veteran and have a fixed income. I look forward to your prompt reply.Update. Tulsa HS contacted me and advised I could pay for treatment out of pocket I already have) or they would come pickup the dog and treat him, If I relinquish the dog back to them (I live 4 hours from them). I have decided to keep the dog as the second option is not the right thing to do. All I wanted was to be helped with the medical bill that is saving this dogs life and to let the Tulsa HS know their dogs were testing positive for Pravo. I understand a contract was signed but one does not expect a puppy, who is supposedly up to date on shots, need to be taken to the vet for a life threatening illness within days of taking them home. I just want you to be aware how Lawrence decided to treat a disabled veteran and his future service dog. I hope everyone involved who had dogs anywhere near the adoption that took place at Globe Life Park on Saturday 7-29-2023 take precautions so this is contained.

I would not adopt from this animal shelter. I adopted one of the beagles from the 4,000 that were rescued from a breading facility. I was told the dog was 2 years old and she was weeks from being 3. I found out when I got there and she was shoved into my arms she had still been nursing puppies and had just been spayed. I wasn't given any time with her to get a chance to see what her personality was like. I had driven 3 hours to pick her up. There were people there who had driven from Texas. It was total chaos. The place smelled terrible and so did she. My husband was asked to pay and sign something electronically neither of us were shown what was being signed. We took Penny home. I have adopted 3 dogs before and have had beagles before. Always with success. Unfortunately she was not affectionate with us or our other dog. She refused to go out of a room door way so we had to carry her outside each time to get her to go to the bathroom. She wouldn't play. After weeks I gave up and decided to return her. I communicated with a closer shelter to return her. The Tulsa Humane Society started calling me on a Sunday every couple of hours. I still wanted it to work so I thought I will wait until a business day to call them. I did finally answer their call because of them constantly calling. I was told I would have to return her to them. It was in the contract I signed. I asked what contract? That was what they had my husband sign without showing him what he was signing. I demanded they send me a copy. I would not get a refund for the $250 it was considered a donation. Which was fine. I just didn't like the underhanded way it was done or the hateful way I was being treated and told about the contract. They were justified to look in at anytime and determine if the dog was being cared for properly. I was not allowed to give her to anyone else, not a friend, family member, anyone and she had to be returned there to the Tulsa Humane Society. I have never had this happen before. I always was able to spend time with the dog. When I adopted Roscoe they even brought him over to see before any transaction that he and my other dog Max would get along. The manager was very hateful. After them sending me the copy of the contract they said they gave me when I picked her up but they didn't I noticed my name and address was wrong. Only my phone number and email was correct. Penny had a chip and when I tried to register her to my name it wouldn't take it because my name was not matching the records they had been given. When we dropped her off I was asked to sign another contract saying I was relinquishing her back to them. Again they wanted an electronic signature. I said I wanted to see what I was signing. They hand me a laminated form. There are blocks to explain why you are returning the dog. People need to know that she wouldn't walk out of the room, this was not the door leading outside. She loved it outside but you had to carry her every time out. She was not affectionate nor would she want play. I couldn't write on this laminated form nor did I know if that was what I was signing on their electronic pad. I told the person my name and address was not correct on what they had my husband sign before. She asked me for the correct info and I refused to give it at that point. Place still smelled terrible. They didn't ask me why I returned her. I still worry about Penny. Later I got a call from a Humane society in Edmond saying that I was under obligation to let their vet treat Penny and the first time or two would be free. I have our own vet I trust. Make sure you know fully what you are getting into. I do not trust this place. I had also originally requested a puppy.
