He was very rude and unprofessional. He requested that I wear a mask, which I quickly did. I then tried to explain that his thin cloth mask wasn't as effective as my M95 mask. He immediately turn and went to his vehicle making rude comments. I tried to explain that I was just trying to inform him, as I'm a medical professional. He made several rude comments and then drove off. I will be calling a different engineer and I recommend that others do the same.

We had some minor cracks in a concrete floor and drywall. Herndon did a thorough job of examining the property and showed us areas we had not noticed. Thankfully, all was cosmetic. Our years of drought had caused minor shifting. Submitted a thorough report to us. We had also had a structural company come out before herndon, and he agreed with the official engineer. He was professional and explained a lot to us in the process of the inspection. We would use him again.

My wife and I retained Mr. Herndon for a structural inspection of a residence. Herndon's company sent a contract and we signed and returned within minutes of receiving. On the day of the inspection, Mr. Herndon came to the residence. As instructed we had left a signed original of the contract and a check for $500 on the kitchen counter. Also present at the residence was our realtor, the prospective buyer's realtor the prospective buyer and an air duct inspector. Mr. Herndon engaged in an argument with the air duct inspector and elected to leave without inspecting the home. He was accosted by our realtor who wanted him to talk with us. He said that since he had never taken payment that we weren't his client. Harsh words were exchanged between Mr. Herndon and our realtor. Mr. Herndon left without speaking with us, without having performed an inspection and without suggesting a different inspector. It is our belief that Mr. Herndon was highly unprofessional. Subsequently, the buyer elected to not proceed with the purchase. It is our belief that the general embarrassment caused by Mr. Herndon's emotional and childish behavior was at least partly responsible for the loss of this buyer. I goes without saying that we would never hire Mr. Herndon again. We recommend that other home buyers and sellers steer clear of this unpleasant and childish man as well.

I used Herndon a few years ago and was SO completely satisfied. A piering company had come out and said we needed TWENTY FOUR piers. We called Herndon and found out we needed only TWO by the front door. Always call a professional and Herndon is one. I would 100% rehire. Honest people.

5/5 would rehire. I was referred to Herndon by a reputable structural repair company so I knew that they must be good. I typically only go off referrals. I was hesitant with the 1-star rating (the only other Yelp review) when I simply Googled for inspectors, but once the structural repair rep referred me, I figured it would be a safe decision. It was.Mike and his office staff were wonderful to work with! I called to ask questions and was able to get lots of information from the secretary to ensure I scheduled the right kind of inspection (they offer a variety). Prices were reasonable and they were able to work with my availability really well. Mike was friendly and flexible the day of the inspection. My toddler kept calling him "grandpa" and trying to show him different things. He took it all in stride and was so, so kind to us. :) Our house was a mess, but he didn't make me feel bad about it one bit. He reviewed all of my concerns, working past the original slotted appointment time to make sure he had everything, and did a full inspection. He even accessed places I didn't know were accessible. He reviewed most of his findings with me before leaving and made sure I understood everything. We got his professional report a few days later and nothing was really surprising because he had already walked me through most of it. Great guy. Definitely a good hire.

My experience with Mr. Herndon was that he came well recommended and, from my perspective, has a high level of professional expertise. He did a thorough analysis of the structural elements of my home, recommended several repairs and upgrades, and made detailed technical drawings to ensure that his recommendations were clear. He was professional and friendly. He took time to discuss the details and go over procedural options with a local contractor who completed some of the repairs. When one of the recommended repairs seemed overwhelming to me, he helped me see that in the larger perspective, it was manageable. Four years later, after the largest of the repairs had been completed, I sought his help for cost estimates on the remaining recommended repairs. He not only made estimates but suggested two local contractors who would be qualified to make the repairs. I expected to pay for this consultation and said so, but he did not charge me. Also, his initial services had been reasonable, and actually below what I was expecting someone with his experience would charge.Due to my experience, my guess is that the circumstances of the prior review may have been such that Mr. Herndon may have been asked to do something that he did not feel ethically comfortable with. This would explain his reluctance and argument with the air duct inspector who might have been acting in the interest of the seller and neglecting the interest of the buyer. Who knows?
