El Maguey Mexican Grill & Cantina

I don't care for Mexican food, this place changed my mind! Super fast, delicious, hot and did I say fast? Fajitas El Maguey were awesome

While in town for a graduation, our family recommended this establishment for dinner. We called around mid day & asked if they could accommodate a group of 15 & they immediately stated they could. Upon arrival we were taken to an area that was a little more private & seated. Our waitress was very personable, delivered great service & was extremely good at her job. The Tacos De La Calle portion was impressive. Flavor was on point & it was an enjoyable dish. My husband ordered the Burrito Azteca which was also delicious. We finished up our meal with a Fried Ice Cream which was delightful. Our entire party was pleased with the service we received & satisfied with their food. Would definitely return in the future!!

Stopped in for dinner and it was amazing! We're new to the area and decided to give them a try. Winner!!!! The queso was delicious and the salsa had such wonderful flavors too. It was very clean inside and the waiters were dressed very nice and super friendly. Our meals were out in no time at all! The rice was soft and fluffy, I had a vegetarian quesadilla and it was packed full of veggies. Our daughter had the chicken with rice and queso. She said the chicken was the breast she's ever had a Mexican restaurant. We'll definitely be back, this may be our go-to Mexican restaurant!

We recently dropped in to El Maguey for dinner while in B'ville.Seating was immediate, and the place was nicely decked out.Menus and drinks were had very quickly, and we set about making our choices.As always, I opted for the Chili Verde. The Boy, ever predictable, had a Chicken Quesadilla. The Wife had Pork Carnitas street tacos, The Daughter had the Carnitas Dinner, while The Kid went with basic beef Nachos.For some reason, we skipped the de riguer order of Queso.Food arrived in short order, and looked pretty good all around. If only it had tasted as good as it looked.The general consensus from The Wife and The Daughter was their pork was bland and dry. My Chili Verde dish was nothing more than a serving of dry, bland pork covered with a green sauce. That's NOT Chili Verde.The Kid's beef nachos were pretty good, but honestly, how do you screw up ground beef and cheese on chips?The Son's Quesadilla was, in his words 'Okay, but not great'.I tasted everything, just for review purposes, and I will say this... it's my opinion that the kitchen has a big steam pan full of shredded pork that's generically seasoned and just tossed on a plate and sauced accordingly whenever it's ordered. That means a lazy kitchen and cooks who don't care about quality.The carnitas were NOT carnitas. There was no hint of a citrus flavor like there should have been. And the Chili Verde, which should have been slow stewed until the pork chunks just fell apart was anything but.Overall, the meal didn't suck, but it was far from being good. Given the drive, it's not likely we'll return on purpose, and given the lack of care for food quality and flavor, it's not likely we'll ever be back even in we're driving down the street in front of the store.

I went to this restaurant with friends I have not seen in at least 40 years. They wanted to eat Mexican so we went to El Maguey. The food had no flavor. I have never been in a Mexican restaurant where the food was so bland. I was surprised. I will never go back.

Lunch menu was pretty large as were the portions. Salsa had a nice fresh cilantro taste. Service was quick and efficient.I had the Avocado Chicken Enchiladas. The sliced avocado on top (although a bit sparse) was the perfect light touch to an otherwise heavy dish. Others had the Chile Relleno (which came out on two plates with accompanying taco), the nachos, enchiladas, and quesadilla. All from the lunch menu and again, all were large!Really nice interior.

The shrimp appetizer with chipotle sauce was seriously bomb! Soooo good, I didn't want it to end. My daughter had the bean dip, and said it's THE best she's ever had. And she judges Mexican ONLY on the bean dip. Try it and thank me later! Agua de mango was had and it was also excellent!

Wonderful food and attentive service. Spacious. A large menu with tasty choices beyond the standard Mexican fare. Kudos to the kitchen!

I ate hear a few months ago. Food came fast, almost instantly. And was very cold. Almost as if I ordered something someone else decided they didn't want. After my food arrived I never saw my server again.I tried them again a few weeks ago and couldn't get anyone's attention to seat me. I left. I guess they didn't want a single taking up a table.

We really enjoy El Maguey. The food is good and we love the chips and salsa. The restaurant is clean and nice inside. The staff are all friendly and make the visit even better.
