Chavela's Mexican Cuisine is in such a remote location. I definitely would have drove right past it if my friend hadn't already been here. We got some chips, salsa and a free queso (thank you yelp :) ) as soon as we sat down. We got the avocado enchiladas and they were decent! I wouldn't say they were the best enchiladas I've ever had but they were far better than most of Joplin's Mexican restaurants, especially for $15. I left with a full stomach and it hit my food cravings. I would definitely come back! I really want to try their chile relleno next time.

Amazingly authentic Mexican thanks to their in house made corn tortillas. Get their tacos-they're some of the best in town. They have a great selection of meat to go along with the tacos which surprisingly includes seafood. I highly recommend the birria as well as the tripe. The birria is slow cooked beef marinated in a (not spicy) red sauce that tenderizes the meat. Tripe is intestine but don't try it before you knock it. They deep fry it and it's incredible. I've also tried their empanadas which they use their corn tortillas to make. They're not the typical style but more like a mini fried Mexican calzone here. It was a little too much on the fried side for me. I've had their ceviche here and I think this one you can definitely pass on. They serve it with saltine crackers which was an interesting choice to say the least. Come for the tacos!

Service was poor but what can you expect with Gen Z attending the establishment Food was poor flavored for a diabetic ( no Salt) don't expect to get protein here! burrito had quarter pound of onions and sprinkle of chicken! As a Beaner myself I give this place a solid 1.2 Only because the sweet tea was descent.

I ordered the steak California burrito and it was phenomenal. The steak is well marinated and juicy, and the pan fry the burrito as well so the tortilla is buttery and crisp. They unfortunately were out of horchata, so I ordered a Jamaica agua Fresca and it was perfect, not too sweet and not too watery. Definitely recommend.
