Zona Decorative Concrete

Made several phone calls in order to get an estimate. Left two different voicemails, spoke to a person on my third call who took my information, who told me I would get a call back. Never received any calls.

Zona did the floor of the studio apartment next door, and right now they're outside doing the walkways. Let me put it this way. After they did the floor in the studio, my landlords and I went over in our socks and just stared down at the floor, looking at the different subtle designs, oohing and aahing. There's a world of difference between pouring a floor and creating a floor, and Zona creates beauty.Aside from the fact that these are artisans, not just folks who know concrete, they are professional, polite, clean, quiet, just all-around top notch. When they leave, the only thing they leave behind is lasting beauty.Amazing. Thank you, everyone at Zona.

Zona Decorative Concrete is a well managed, professional business. I would refer to Mac Hick as an artist who grew up in the concrete business. He is a husband and father who puts family first.He has done several residential jobs for us and we have always been highly satisfied. He does site visits, provides accurate bids and manages the installation in person.I am always pleased to recommend him.

Zona concrete did a great job at our home. Mac was great to work with. He was able to translate our needs into the proper surface and color options for us. They started on-time and finished exactly when they said they would. We're thrilled with the final result. Additionally, the crew from Zona was very friendly and respectful of our property. I had two concrete finishes installed by Zona as part of one project. The first was exposed aggregate (driveway and two walkways). The second was a sand finish (patio, stoop, and two walkways). Both were colored concrete. I am very pleased with the driveway - the installation seems to be high quality, with plenty of expansion joints, a neat junction with the asphalt road, a good slope, and embedded wire mesh for strength. There seems to be faint variations in color under the aggregate, but it is barely noticeable - the reason for my mentioning this will become evident in a bit. The exposed aggregate walkways are fine, too, though the curves and bends in one of the walkways did not end up being the same as Mac (owner) and I had spent 15 minutes laying out in spray paint before demolition and I greatly preferred the initial layout to the final product. [Lesson learned: don't be shy about asking concrete companies to redo the forms if you don't get just what you asked for, even if the owner of the company pushes back when you mention it!]The sand finish areas are very disappointing. On the patio, the finish is very rough in one area, with the effect that it looks pitted and old. Initially, there was even a divot in it but the crew filled it in on the next day fresh concrete was delivered and it did blend in well. Another major problem is that after all the areas were acid washed ~1 month after being poured, an obvious patchiness in the color was revealed (see photos), corresponding to areas where efflorescence had occurred soon after the concrete was poured. I mentioned this to Mac and he came out to repeat the acid wash, with the assurance that the second wash would even out the color. However, it did not, or did only slightly, and Mac didn't check back in to see if I was satisfied (I am not). Two problems there - it is not a high-quality look and there was not much concern about customer satisfaction once all was paid for.Another annoyance: while Mac assured me more than once that his crew would install "lots of" irrigation sleeves under the walkways, as far as I (and the landscapers) can tell, only one of the three walkways that should have sleeves does. Before the job was finished, I asked Mac where the sleeve was for one of the walkways and he said he would have his crew dig out the ends for me, but this wasn't done (presumably because the sleeve is not there!). In short, this job was a big expense for me and I didn't get the quality I was expecting based on the amount of money I spent, the photos I was shown, or the sales pitch that promised high quality because Mac himself would be on site every day. If you're looking for an exposed aggregate driveway, then Zona might work out for you, but I cannot recommend them for other types of installations.

Zona Decorative Concrete & Construction (Zona) constructed a new 30' x 15' concrete patio and walkway as part of our backyard landscaping project for our new home in Del Webb Dove Mountain. Zona was a subcontractor to Valley Oasis Landscaping.Mac (Owner) coordinated the work with the prime landscape contractor, laid out the formwork using laser technology and actually helped his crews wheelbarrow in concrete on a hot day! He was great to work with and coordinated the work with my schedule.All the work was performed professionally. The concrete slopes nicely for drainage and the concrete finish is excellent. Zona is fantastic and we highly recommend them.

We were a small job. Mac and his crew gave it their same attention and talent as a big job. Mac is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and has a great rapport with his customers. This job was changing our 38-year old entry to our house. He put us at ease as he explained their process. His crew conducted the demo all the way to the terrific final touches as Mac said. They are hardworking, well-qualified, and did a beautiful job. We love it! We highly recommend this company!
