We attended the Nutcracker at the Linda Ronstadt Center and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra performed. They did a phenomenal job. Beautiful. Such a difference when it's live. More powerful and magical for sure.

This place was amazing! Went to :she's got soul concert with capathia being the main singer and I had such a great time. The orchestra is so talented and gave such a high energy performance to compliment the singer who both blew me away! She and her backup singers and orchestra brought it! I'm so glad I went. They have a concessions too! Side note although photo/video is not allowed during the show you can snap a pic at the end of the performance or before. Be mindful of purses! They are very strict so make sure to read the fine print on their requirements. Tucson performing arts is a hidden gem and so many cute little places to check out before or after a show. Tons of restaurants as well! Follow TSO and TCC for up to date shows and concerts!

What a treasure the Tucson Symphony Orchestra is to this city -- and music director José Luis Gomez is as engaging as they come, making classical works feel modern and accessible to a wide audience. This season's outstanding program has enrichment for every listener, from masterworks to movie moments and explorations of cultural heritage. No boundaries here either, with attendees ranging from youths to seniors (it was fun to see that the grade-schooler behind me was as enthralled as I was). Our visit was inspiring, and the reasonable build-your-own subscriptions are such a value!

Last night was my first visit to the Tucson Symphony The imposing Brutalist exterior of the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall isn't visible from the street. It's tucked away a short walk off of Church Street. Here is last night's program:Carl Maria von Weber: Oberon OvertureMaurice Ravel: Mother GooseEinojuhani Rautavaara: Cantus Arcticus, Concerto for Birds and OrchestraIgor Stravinsky: Firebird SuiteI was here for one reason: Rautavaara. Cantus Arcticus was the first work I heard by this Finnish composer years ago. It's an ethereal wave of sound; such a haunting piece that is backed by the soundtrack of Arctic birds. It's rarely played by American orchestras so it was thrilling to hear this in person. Every time I hear it, I feel as if I'm standing in a frozen landscape. The only drawback to this wonderful experience was the limited acoustics of the hall. The space doesn't match the quality of these talented musicians. Is that a reason not to go? Not at all. There is another performance tomorrow. If you have the chance to attend, please do. Hearing this rarely played piece is an incredible experience.

Hey all you guys out there who think the symphony is just for old people, you are probably right. I go and feel like I am the youngest person in there, and I am no spring chicken. They have gone from 3 performances to 2 for each concert. At the rate they are going all the people will be dead in a couple of years who give money. They absolutely do nothing to encourage the 20 to 30 crowd to come. They do a lot with young kids bur that does not increase their audience. I have had season tickets for 5 years, and it is hit or miss. Last night was a complete miss, I wanted to claw my ears out if that is such a thing. It was a Ludwig B. thing which I usually like, but it was 81 minutes of shear hell. Boring to the point of Nassaum, why why why did I put myself through that. Why was because there was no intermission to leave. Maybe if more people would come in a younger age bracket they would change some things. So go and try it, take a chance most of the time it is pretty good.

In a hurry, but just wanted to say how great TSO is. They provided and awesome educational experience for my son and his school, teaching them about music and how it tells stories. They even gave all the kids a free book on the way out. Shibby!

I have attended three events in the last five months--one small, intimate event on 6th avenue, one at Catalina High school, and one at Tucson Music Hall. They have all far exceeded my expectations and I have enjoyed the variety of venues.Yesterday's performance prompted me to post. I felt it was brave to tackle a program with Duke Ellington's music.............I was very skeptical. Why did I worry?! It was amazing! The crowd went crazy--I love Tucson audiences!Admittedly, I have an old-lady crush on the music director, Jose Luiz Gomez................but he is doing a fabulous job. It is a joy to watch him conduct.I am giddy with anticipation for the next concert.
