I've been going to TMY since the early days in the Seventies. Most recently, I was there on Friday evening (two days ago). Unfortunately, it was super hot even in the evening due to a heat wave. Not their fault, but it made the experience way less enjoyable. Still, I had some good food (Maltese, Indian, and a smoothie) and enjoyed listening to some Irish music. Some of the other bands were so loud that even if I could have found an empty chair, I wouldn't have wanted to be that close to the stage. (In the early years, that didn't happen as it was mostly acoustic folk music.) Bring earplugs and an appetite.

One score & 18 years or Romanized 2 scores minus 2 years ago Dr. James "Big Jim" Griffith, a University of Arizona folklorist and anthropologist started TMY. Non-politically correct Tucson Eat Yourself is more accurate because you can really overeat. With a full tummy, without a detailed plan of what Folkart stages you want to visit when, you can run in circles around the TMY's 8 blocks making for an uncomfortable score. The organizers mapped out a trek that winded through the fest so you can't miss anything. Even with the trek laid out it's a good idea to get a program at on of the many info booths. Or you could meet a fun friendly volunteer like me to hand you a program and give you a pat on the . . .back and a push in the fun direction. Real easy job for me cuz fun was everywhere.
