Micromega CDF1 repaired by Stephen Sank. He repaired it, other techs refused because they were not knowledgeable or confident.

I have worked with several techs over the years to repair my vintage audio equipment. Stephen is extremely knowledgeable and listens to you, which is more that the other store in Tucson does. Where the other workshop was difficult and usually rude when trying to explain what I wanted done, Stephen was open and worked with me to get what I wanted. High quality service done quickly and extraordinary attention to detail using the right parts to get the right performance. Highly recommend!

I have to say that Stephen is amazing. He is a real professional when it comes to electronic repair. He specializes in ribbon mics but he went through my sansui 9090db whereas I thought the DB board needed replacing, and not to get into details, but it's better than ever and it was under estimate. He also helped me with my MD player. Guy knows his stuff. He comes from a line of well trained audio professionals.

I found this electronic repair facility after searching on-line for a resource to repair my vintage Micromega CDF1 transport (the unit). The local repair shops refused to repair the unit because there were no schematics or replacement parts available, not to mention that the "original" company was no longer in existence.Fast forward, two months later...I find the owner Stephen Sank on a audio forum discussing about the same problem I had and more specifically regarding the type of transport mechanism, a Philips CDM1 MK2. Thereafter, I was able to acquire Stephan's contact information including the name of his company (Talking Dog Transducer Company), yes...a mouthful to remember. The next day, I contacted Stephen and he actually answered the phone, this was truly refreshing and a plus for me. I told Stephen about the unit and issues which he then assured me, he was familiar with this particular type of transport mechanism and will gladly look at it for me once I send it to him. After speaking with Stephen I was relieved and confident he was capable of fixing the unit for me because of his extensive knowledge of electronics and his approach in trouble-shooting the issue over the phone. I then carefully packed up the unit and sent it to Stephen in Tucson, Arizona. Two days later, Stephen emailed to let me know, he received the unit and it arrived safely, also he will have some time to look at it and let me know the cost to repair it.A week later, I get an email informing me the unit was repaired and the parts that were replaced which was in line with his diagnosis. Stephen then told me the final cost of repair with shipping, which was spot on and not a penny more than his estimate. He also assured me the unit will be shipped out the next day which truly got me anxious to see if the repair was done correctly and the issues resolved.I received the unit back in a couple days, unpacked it, took a deep breath, and connected the unit to my system. In order to give it the ultimate test, I picked one of my cd which was scratched and frankly, I thought it would be impossible to be read by the unit.Surprisingly, the unit read the disc!!! I then tested all the functions and they all worked perfectly....which I concluded that Stephen tested all the functions and not only repaired the issues we discussed, he went that extra step for me, unbelievable !!!After thorough inspection of the unit, I also concluded that Stephen used only high quality replacement parts and the repair was done very neatly with no messy soldering spots. I also found out after calling to thank him, he inspected all the solder joints and took care of any bad or cold solder area. This is the type of service that only Artisans or passionate techs would be able to give to their customers, which is not common in our throw away society. Some of these audio equipment may be old but they are true works of art and it is great to know, there are still techs that feel the same way and do what they can to give their customers, the best service and courtesy.I would like to encourage and invite Yelpers to visit Stephen's website, he repairs all types of audio equipment, from tape players to complex tube and solid state amps.

I took a motherboard to Steven because I was having a short in the power supply. He ran it through full testing and even touched up the solder on the terminals. When we re-installed the motherboard, we still having power issues. I called him and he said check the fuse block. By adjusting the fuse, terminals resolve the problem. Thank you so much.

Steve Sank of Talking Dog Transducer Company here in Tucson has been repairing and modifying my high end Audiophile grade stereo equipment for about 10 years now. I originally took a piece of stereo equipment to him that someone else in the electronics repair business could not repair and had broken, and Steve had no problem spoting and repairing the problem. Since then, he has probably repaired or modified a dozen pieces of high end stereo gear for me over the years for me with impressive results. Steve Sank is not just a electronic repair wiz, he is actually a Renascence person who knows and breaths solid state and tube gear to the extent that he can easily critique a piece of quality stereo audiophile equipment and spot its shortcomings and where it was compromised almost at a glance. After getting to know Steve over the years, I discovered that is father was in design and development with RCA, and Steve studied under him and then moved ahead with knowledge of modern and classic stereo gear. From asking, Steve has been at it now for 35 years+.Steve Sank is highly recommended. Your gear is in the hands of the best.

I've been in the audio hobby for several years. I have had various organizations modify pieces of gear for me and I have acquired some nice pieces overtime. Most of my equipment is a decade old or so and perfectly fine for my Redbook CD collection which is substantial. Not many weeks ago I had purchased from a leading reseller/auction company of high end audio gear a Benchmark DAC-1 - one already modded by a notable, national company located in North America. It sounded fine to me and I wanted to build on that sound, end up with a reliable product and eliminate the coaxial BNC connector. I found Stephen Sank through various audio blogs and called Talking Dog Transducer. I immediately "hit it off" with Stephen and understood instantly that he was a talented and knowledgeable individual. Stephen took the already modded Benchmark DAC-1 and replaced 22 capacitors, added 10, and replaced some older model opamps. I was not ready for the qualitative differences in the Benchmark DAC-1. Beyond impressive!! Still "Benchmark analytical," but more soundstage, fuller, smoother, much less fatiguing to listen to - great channel separation - positions of individual instruments are accurate and of proper timbre. Stephen transformed the Benchmark into something exponentially light-years ahead of a stock Benchmark and made vast improvements on the DAC already modded. Amazing! Stephen Sank is one of those rare individuals who can take hi-fi modifications to a level of engineering and sonic artistry. I found his prices to be fair and his style to be communicative throughout the process. Highly recommended.
