Squirrel's Nest has a huge selection of high-quality, well-organized quilting fabrics, supplies, and books. You can find solids and all kinds of prints here, ranging from very traditional-looking stuff to modern/funky and everything in between, plus lots of seasonal designs. I'm not as knowledgeable on the knit/crochet/etc front, but the selection does appear to be pretty extensive for yarn artists as well. The staff seems friendly and knowledgeable, there are frequent classes (I took a great beginner class on free-motion quilting several months back), and there are always sample projects around to admire. This is not an all-purpose "fabric and craft store" in the same vein as the corporate chains, but I think it is THE place to shop as a quilter in this area! I should say, however, that you can get a lot of general sewing supplies here, like thread, interfacing, pins, needles, etc., and they do sell some sewing machines (mainly Brother, from what I've seen), but you'll need to look elsewhere for, say, apparel and home dec fabrics. The only major drawback for me are the hours--because they are only open 10:00a-5:00pm on weekdays and 10:00a-4:00p on Saturdays, and I work full time, my only options are to rush over on a lunch hour or wait for Saturday. I'd probably spend more time and money here if they were open even just an hour longer into the evenings.

A multitude of fabrics are available and new ones are added frequently. A sewing and quilting supply section is well stocked. A number of varied classes are available and others may be added per request. The instructors are knowledgeable and helpful. They sell HQ sewing machines by order. The shop owner is an HQ repair specialist and has been helpful with info regarding my new machine. There is a longarm machine on the premises that may be 'rented' after taking an appropriate class. I always look forward to my regularly scheduled Mystery Fabric classes and Block of the Month classes as well as others that are offered. Taking an occasional vacay day for an all day class is a true treat for me!

I am posting here, due to the shady business practices of this shop. I am a homebound disabled and sent my helper in to buy some thread. They knew that I had to pay this person a fairly high hourly rate. While the helper was in the store he put the clerk on the line and I spoke to them again letting them know that I needed thin cotton thread and what colors. I told the clerk that I needed to match the color of the tailors thread but something not so thick and again I stressed the regular thin cotton thread. The helper returns with the thread I desired and informed me that the clerk had also included embroidery thread in-case I would want it and if not I could return it. That embroidery thread was close to a few bucks or so, very expensive. Embroidery thread is also very very thick, much thicker than tailors thread. Remember I stressed to her I needed something thinner and the helper bought the thinner thread I requested. No where did I mention embroidery or wanting that type of thread. The helper is a rather shy boy and did not speak up or know what to say or do when the clerk took it upon herself to add this unwanted, un-requested item to my order. I then had to pay the helper as much as the price of this expensive thread to return it back to the store. Of course the clerk knew that this person was being paid by the hour and probably I would not do anything and keep the item. Wrong. I think this is very shady!! I do not like these types of business practices and I do not like being taken advantage of!.Granted I was only interested in buying the 2 spools of thread I needed and have gotten it in the past from hobby lobby online, but I figured I would just spend the shipping to have the helper get it local. Never again. Next time I need something I will go online! It is obvious that this business does not care about having my continued and future business, nor do they care about the cost to me, when I can barely afford to make ends meet on a fixed income.Very poor business ethics to operate this way!! This kind of behavior is not just a lack of decency. It is downright mean! Never again!!!

Wrong Address! Highway 92. They advertise a certified sewing machine repair man that works on all brands. I take my pfaff in and request a cleaning and repair of machine. They say 2 weeks. More then 2 weeks later I get a call that the machine has been cleaned but they cann't adjust tension as I need a new bobbin holder. I pay for supposedly a cleaning and tell them to order bobbin holder. I then take my machine to Tucson and in less the 5 days that my machine is ready, and I don't need a bobbin holder. and under the presser foot is a miniture baggie with all the thread and lint they removed from the machine that had supposedly been cleaned by the local squirrels nest certified repair man. Mind you they charged me for this cleaning. And when I stopped by to tell them I didn't need the bobbin holder, they didn't offer to refund my money.
