Bridge leading to Homestead House.
Amish barn, transported from the eastern U.S. Pennsylvania, I think.
A gorgeous setting.
The Spirit Tree. 180 years old.
Two horses, a mini horse, a burro, a dog and at least two cats to love. And the owners, Tom & Mary Jane are great, too.

We had a great getaway weekend here! I'd tried to book a room in the past but they were always full; we finally got lucky. It's a nice, 1-hour drive from Tucson. As you pull in, you are greeted by a friendly dog, 2 cats, and finally, humans. We stayed in the Equine room: everything was horse-themed, including the tiles in the bathroom and the headboard. Prints by deGrazia and Maderas, and others I didn't recognize. There was a fan set in the stomach of a metal horse sculpture! There was also a drawing of a cow....The bathroom was tiny; this room is not recommended for larger than average people. The other bathrooms are apparently bigger. Off this room, a lovely little atrium. Bed was comfy, but a bit squeaky. Next time we will request the library room, which looks amazing. There's also a bunkhouse if you want to stick your whole family in one room. The owners invited us out for dinner our first night, and also to a pig roast the next day! Everyone was extremely friendly. The pig roast featured bluegrass musicians and also a vegetarian option. We spent most of our time wandering around Harshaw Creek, Patagonia Lake State Park, and Sonoita Creek Natural area. It's a beautiful part of the country. Personally, I like to choose my own breakfast and eat it with people I know, but if you're a fan of the B&B model, you can't go wrong here. Tom, the owner, goes out of his way to make the food fancy and ample. Lots of lively conversation. We were very sad to go home.

My husband and I took the time for a 3 day getaway and booked at Spirit Inn. We immediately felt like we were "home" after we were welcomed by Mary Jane. She asked when we would like breakfast and the next morning the smell of coffee and food woke us, made with love by Tom, we both cleaned our plates. We stayed for 3 days in the lavender room which was perfect for the 2 of us and opens into a screened in Arizona Room/Atrium. My only complaint was the water pressure in the shower was not great - but it worked. Keep in mind there have water issues in this area and the water comes from a well so I think it is just city expectations are not exactly want you get in a country setting. Everything else was perfect. It is a little rough around the edges but that is what we like-- we are not room service Hilton kind of travelers.Close to wine country in Sonoita and natural scenic beauty - perfect for a relaxing stress free quiet getaway. Wifi is adequate if you need it.Near Patagonia, a funky little town, there are places to eat and shop. Highly recommend the Velvet Elvis Pizza in town and Overland Trout in Sonoita. We are happy we found this little jewel and will happily return.

My wife and I honeymooned at this little B and B. I cannot say enough good things about it.If you stay during a slow time, you can upgrade to their dinner package. which is highly recommended. Tom, the owner, whips up a 5 star, 4-course meal, with wines that accompany each course. We stayed in the homestead house and it's very comfortable. One thing I will say is that this place is in the country, so expect clean air and bugs. Also, the water in the town of Patagonia is not very tasty, so pack a case of water bottles.

My husband and I were very fortunate to stay at Spirit Tree Inn for a very special wedding anniversary. Mary Jane and Tom were the perfect hosts and immediately made us feel welcome. Mary Jane and I traded emails, texts and spoke on the phone prior to our visit to make sure everything was set before we arrived. We stayed in the Library, which was a very spacious private room with a very comfortable queen size bed and a private bath with shower. Each morning (at the time of our choosing) we were greeted with an amazing gourmet breakfast prepared by Tom who has many years' experience working in the best restaurants with the best chefs. The food selections, presentation and delicious meals made for a wonderful dining experience. Tom welcomes the challenge a guest may have with any food limitations. We were entertained by Tom and Mary Jane during our meals with interesting stories about the area and the history behind some amazing antiques at the Inn. Tom is a real history buff! For our special wedding anniversary dinner, we purchased the dinner package which consisted of a completely customized four course dinner. We requested a special entrée and Tom created the other courses to complement our selection, culminating in a very delicious meal. Each course was highlighted with a wine paired to the dish from the local wineries in the area. We enjoyed one port so much, I had to visit the winery and purchase a few bottles! If you visit Spirit Tree Inn, I highly recommend the dinner package, you won't be disappointed!Spirit Tree Inn is located in a very remote setting nestled in the rolling hills of south central Arizona. It is amazing the peacefulness you will experience at the inn, which may be brought about by the giant Fremont Cottonwood tree for which the Spirit Tree Inn got its name. This magnificent tree is estimated to be over 170 years old and is a breathtaking sight. The area is also a haven for birds and birdwatchers alike. Due to the remoteness of the inn, the night sky is perfect for viewing millions of stars. We were fortunate to be there during the Leonid meteor shower and I saw a meteor shoot just above the Spirit Tree after only a moment or two of watching! This location is near Sonoita/Elgin, which is known for a dozen or more vineyards. We had fun visiting the wineries and enjoying the wine tasting before making our selection. The region has many restaurants and little café's to enjoy while you explore the area. Other attractions close by are the quaint towns of Bisbee and Tombstone, the Kartchner Caverns and Patagonia Lake; which are all a short drive away. Our stay Spirit Tree Inn Bed and Breakfast was perfect in every way. Mary Jane and Tom were gracious hosts dedicated to making our stay very enjoyable and memorable.

Loved it here! Ventured down to SoAZ for some wine tasting and hiking - and am so happy I came across this awesome little B&B. Super cozy - and fairly close to everything I needed to get to, without being in the middle of it all. So peaceful. Breakfast was DELICIOUS! And I have to say I've never seen the stars so bright as I did when I stayed here... the Milky Way was intense! The owners were so accommodating with my last minute reservation and had tons of info on local attractions, such as wineries, hiking, off-roading, birding, ghost towns, restaurants... you name it! Can't wait to go back. :)

My husband, dog and I came down from Phoenix to stay in the Homestead House for the week of Christmas. This was our first time in Patagonia, and we were absolutely taken with the area! The Homestead House was very comfortable for our needs. I cooked several meals in the little kitchenette, no problems. We were very comfortable in the king-sized bed. It was quite a change for us to have no access to Internet, email or television (in the Homestead House, but all are available in the main house), but... What a relaxing treat! We actually READ BOOKS and had amazing fun drinking wine, playing cards and other board games at night (a huge selection of old-fashioned games are in the main house). During the day we took a few exciting road trips (especially on a couple of the back roads!) and were enamored with everything Patagonia! The birds, the sky, the scenery, the weather, the town, the people... we loved it all! There is a wonderful organic store in town with an incredible selection of produce and meats... quite a surprise for such a small town. Indeed, we ate like royalty during this trip, in no small part due to the incredible breakfasts prepared by Tom every morning! We also enjoyed Tom's unbelievably delicious Christmas dinner on Christmas Day... what a treat! True 5-star resort quality meals, every one of them! We would definitely come back and stay with Tom and Mary Jane again. They are great people and we wish them the best.

From the moment we pulled into the driveway and saw the 200-yr-old cottonwood tree, we knew this was a special place. Longtime residents/innkeepers Tom & Mary Jane are warm, hospitable, knowledable, discreet hosts, happy to chat if you want to and tell you all the local lore, also happy to give you space. Tom is an excellent gourmet chef & each breakfast is different. The main house is cozy adobe with a huge stone fireplace. Beds are comfortable w/good mattress. There's a mini fridge to store food and a microwave and 'common area' with hot coffee & a great selection of teas. The flagstone patio is excellent for dreaming, bird-watching, (it's a hot birdwatching place w/great biodiversity & right on some bird migration paths), star-gazing, and watching the sun go down with a glass of wine. The property lies off a dirt road, with excellent hiking, biking, and running trails and streams (at least in spring) so feels quite remote, but it's also about 3 miles from the little town of Patagonia. This is perfect for a couples getaway (there are two free-standing casitas plus a main lodge) but also for families and it's dog-friendly. They have a donkey and a horse who love snacks and an excellent library of books to read. It also seems to draw like-minded souls as the other guests we met over our 3-day stay were lovely, respectful, quiet, and as grateful and amazed as we were to have found this charmed hideway.

The owners were friendly. Our room was clean, but the bed was cramped into the corner. I had to inch my way in to craw, in from the foot, or crawl over my husband. The toilet was a little rocky, but everything was clean. The other couple in our group said their bathroom was filthy. Outside there was a very nice patio to sit in, but the furniture could use a good painting. Looked rusty. When we pulled in it looked like a junk yard. If you are interested in old machinery, they have several I tersting pieces to look at, but cleaning up all the other junk around there would go a long way to make the place presentable.

It was a lovely setting, and I cannot recommend enough if you are a birder. The property was a grand spot to go birding. Mary Jane and Tom were wonderful hosts, and the food was fabulous. Such a lovely spot to take a vacation.

We just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay at the Spirit Inn. This is a beautiful part of Arizona, near wineries, hiking trails, and the Kartchner Caverns. Patagonia is one of the top birdwatching areas in the country, and there are many bird feeders on the property. There are numerous hiking trails in the nearby Coronado National Forest. Mountain bike rentals are also available from the Spirit Inn, but we stuck mainly to hiking and driving to various spots. Mary Jane and Tom made us feel very welcome, and Tom is a great gourmet cook, with many years of restaurant experience. Mary Jane called us a few days ahead of our trip and asked for our dietary limitations. I mentioned that I was allergic to eggs and dairy, but I could bring along my own food. She laughed and said Tom liked a challenge! And indeed, the first morning breakfast was served to everybody else --a delicious scrambled egg cup, with very fresh fruit, and diced sweet potatoes with cinnamon and cumin. He made a special mueslix hot cereal with various fruits and nuts for me. Mmm! The second day we had mesquite flour pancakes with prickly pear syrup, bacon, and mixed fruits. And again, he had made my pancakes with no eggs/milk. Thank you, Tom!The rooms were comfortable (we were there with my sister and her husband, so we had two of the rooms.) There is a large dining table, a comfortable living room area with games and books available. We played Scrabble late one evening after a full day of exploring. Many coffee and tea varieties available. If you like staying in a farmhouse, out in the quiet country with gorgeous mountain views and fun areas to explore, this is a good place for you.
