Special Eats

Wow! I've seen this truck around town, but never had an opportunity to try it before. Advert indicates it helps young adults with autism. Today I had Jury duty in downtown Tucson and the truck was parked on a side street across from the courthouse, so I decided to investigate further. What was being primarily offered were variations of grilled cheese sandwiches, either straight up or with proteins and additional adjuncts, such as chicken-green chile, chicken -candied bacon, shaved beef, etc. My spidey-sense always gets cautious when I see no specific cheeses indicated and terms used like "melty" as being metaphors for Velveeta, Nacho Cheeze goo, and Cheeze Whiz crap sandwiches. I've been burned before (in Tucson) with a pop up making disgusting Cheeze Steaks based upon the spray can Cheeze compound. I was really on the fence whether to go for it or walk, but I decided to risk it. Glad I did. Luckily, no Cheeze products from these folks!Fast prep, fluffy old school loaf sliced bread (not wonderbread) that was perfectly browned with hot, tasty melted cheese (note spelling) that wasn't breaking down and oozing oil. It had an ample portion of thumbnail-sized chicken chunks and finely diced green chiles. Really tasty!Bonus: the paper bag that my wrapped sandwich was placed in had one whole surface covered in an original work signed by "Ben". It was a multicolor sharpie portrait titled "Dracula Castigliano", or something to that effect, as I recall. It was actually a pretty good piece and painstakingly hand drawn on my bag. I wish I had my phone with me to have captured a photo to post as an homage to Ben's nice work.Cool touch. Straight-up grilled cheese is $8 and my chicken-green Chile variant was $10. Reasonable in this day and age.Impressive. I'll try them again.

My absolute favorite food cart in Tucson! I look forward to going to their events (that they publish on Social Media) and having a delicious grilled cheese. My personal favorite is the Spicy Clucker w/ buffalo sauce. Also, don't overlook the Mac and cheese side. It's really, really good. The service is quick and accurate. I love giving them my business and encourage you to do the same!

We had this truck at our aerospace games and everyone loved the different types of grilled cheeses offered. They are so sweet and helpful and quick too

Amazing food with an even better mission. This food truck employs folks with what I would call diverse abilities. Tonight John was on the truck and he has autism. I wanted to try as much of the offerings as I could so I got the Oktoberfest special and the Cowtipper. The texture of the cheese on the outside of the sandwich was what the definition of texture for "grilled cheese" should be. The parmesan allows for a beautiful browning on the outside. The inside for both sandwiches were amazing. Definitely chase this truck down. Amazing food and an even better mission.

Looks yummy and most definitely on my list to try out as soon as possible and I like the fact that they employ people with special needs that's a huge deal to me and have a lot of respect for that

Okay after a few months I finally found the truck again and tried a few of their grilled cheese...the best I have ever had. Only $10 for ham & cheese then I got the $11 chicken.......these are really good, I don't understand why they only operate a few days a week. They could make some good money if they did a 7 day operation and stayed in one spot instead of going all over town. Would also help if they had tables and chairs to sit so we don't have to eat in our car. If you like grilled cheese give them a try.

Best grilled cheese I've ever had! All the workers are so friendly. The story of the food truck is incredible.
