I've been a client of Sierra Animal Hospital for almost ten years, so my review is an average of my many times my six dogs and two cats (don't ask) have been here. I will admit my experience truly depends on which vet (DVM: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) I see. I am partial to Dr Moffett and her folksy down-home charm, and Dr George and her straight-forward but gentle analysis. Dr Bone owns the place but he has morphed into an older curmudgeon. Don't piss him off.My most recent experiences required Dr George to assist me. The last time was in euthanizing a paralyzed 14-year-old Aussie SheperdX. That was emotional enough. And last week I had to come in for an emergency appointment to get a three-month GSD male puppy examined for lethargy. Dr. George was right on, as she suggested I get my pup Hansel tested for parvo. Sure enough, the test came back"definitely positive." Luckily I am a good pet parent and had him seen as soon as possible, even thought that cost me an additional $90 "emergency fee" which I think is cow scat because I have friends who use SAH and who claim they never have to pay that "emergency fee". What's up with that? Are my GSDs not cute enough? Thus the one-star deduction. But anyway... Dr. George suggested I do the home treatment that included IVs, amoxicicillin and anti-puking meds. The cost was $684 but the staff suggested I apply for CareCredit, which I did, which means I could lower my vet bill to $38 a month over 18 moths. (If you don't pay up within that time, interest rate shoots up to 26%.) I was in the exam room for 90 minutes to wait out for lab results. Now realize, this is during this dramatically inflated covid pandemic. I got nothing but professional treatment from Dr George and her Vet Tech Christian, who should also be applauded for organizing collections of food and dog/cat beds for local animal shelters. (Currently it's for Border Animal Rescue) and for the crew up front who guided me for applying for CareCredit. My pup Hansel survived his parvo by Day 4, which seems to be the usual recovery, but I collapsed from exhaustion because I was up all night all ou this past week while my husband was passed out (Marriage is so over-rated). My pets are my family and to see a once-sick dog recover and hop around like a typical goofy, over-dramatic German Shepherd Dog after a potential virus is a godsend. Everything Dr George and her staff told me about parvo was right on, so thanks to all the crew at SAH for saving Hansel. I love that little pupI do have one piss about this place, though. They call themselves an Animal Hospital but do not provide 24-hour care. They need to call themselves a Clinic. PERIOD. Don't argue with me on this one. Even the staff agrees with me. This town absolutely needs a 24-hour care facility but apparently all the DVMs in town have agreed that it's not cost-prohibitive. If your dog/cat/husband gets attacked by a venemous Chihuahua or rattlesnake, you must drive 120 miles to Tucson and bleed out $300+ just to be seen. That puts Sierra Vista back in the 1890s, when even the elite galloped on to Tucson via horse. But I digress. If you have read this far, I will add that SAH does give military personnel an additional discount, so make the front crew know that. Show them your military ID and it gets put into your records, so you will always get a discount for office visits and vaccines. They are open Saturdays,Be cordial to the crew. Treat them as you want to be treated. They work hard and have plenty of other buttholes to deal with because I can tell that many earlier reviewers were expecting miracles from the mortals working in this office.

Long story short...I have a 20 year old cat that I've been told could die if put to sleep by other vets. These fools here were like well "she's got 50/50 chance to survive so we're just gonna gas her". Wtf is wrong with these people. She didn't need to be put asleep they just needed to let me administer the eye drops. You'd think they would rather allow me to put couple eye drops in vs potentially killing my pet. They lack any compassion do not bring your pet here!

I've had nothing but great service at Sierra Animal Hospital. I've been going there since 2009. I was very sad to see Dr. Jody Moffet leave but my furbabies continue to get first rate care. Yes, vet bills are expensive but they are at any vet.

This place is DISGUSTING and should be put out of business!!! Super unprofessional! Caused our dog Bronson gastrointestinal bleeding due to meds they prescribed! Our service animal was attacked by a Mastiff. Me and my mother used our bodies to shield the dog from biting. During the commotion the mastiff pushed my mother over onto my dogs arm. When she got up my dogs arm was distorted and he was yelping. We rushed to the closest vet which was Sierra. They told us $250 to even be seen, we agree, they demand xrays and we agree, they come back with the bill and its $185 for the xrays and 2 additional charges of $125 for "additional views" totaling $435 just for xrays also slid a hidden "tech fee" of $37 on top of that as if a tech is not part of an exam. During this time Dr.Bone keeps stating "his right arm" when we keep insisting its the left. He then takes the dog for xrays and you can hear him talking to the vet in the room saying "his right arm" as we are screaming from the dirty disgusting room its his left arm. The room itself had stained floors, hair everywhere, dirt ring around the entire room and dirt on the walls and handles of the doors (pictures will be included). The meds he prescribed "Prednisolone 5mg" caused gastrointestinal bleeding on my dog. He needed to be rushed to the ER up in Tucson!! After the ER trip he was on new meds to treat the condition the other meds caused. Mind you this is memorial day weekend! After waiting for Sierra to open the next week to inform them. They were EXTREMELY rude and even hung up on me twice!! No apology and they blamed the gastrointestinal bleeding on my mom falling on his arm!!! They said "you cant prove the meds caused the bleeding" and "well you crushed your dog" which is absolutely untrue! Only his arm was caught under my mom! I then spoke to the manager Elizebeth and they were COMPLETELY unapologetic and downright rude! Even saying "thats just too bad you dont like our pricing" and "yeah we do additional charges other vets dont do" among other things. When the filth in the facility was brought up Dr.Bone made the excuse "we are getting our floors redone right now" which is an obvious lie since I do construction for a living. Then Elizebeth claimed "the room was just about to be cleaned" I then point out this is a dirt ring and did not happen in one day, those are blood stains on the floor and walls, hair all over the floor not even swept. I state that did not happen in one day! She then says "well you dont like our pricing or the cleanliness of out facility so you are free to go somewhere else" like I needed her permission! Then proceeds to hang up twice on me! I tell them Im reporting them to the AZ vet board and she said "I dont care what you do" with no apology what so ever for our bill, the facility or the aftermath. Didnt even ask how Bronson was doing! I could give WAY more details but they have a "character limit" on these reviews! There are far more details that will make you cringe! Dont go here dont give them money if you love your animal! This place is the worst and other vets in town agree! Yes two different vets in SV say never take your dog there "its the worst"! Thats says a lot coming from other vets! Our bill was $945 total!! VEG in Tucson was $327 and had a legit super nice super clean facility with top notch tech! Where Sierra is a total rundown dirty dump that looks like a converted house! Rooms are so filthy I myself wouldn't even sleep in that room or ever get care! They cant even use a swiffer, a mop or even wipe a door handle down! Super unsanitary and they should be ashamed! Going to report them to the AZ vet board and provide all of this evidence and more! This place wants top dollar for a run down facility they dont clean, mediocre care and horrible customer service! I will do everything in my power to expose you clowns and the joke business you are running! I wont stop here and every review place possible will hear my story about you! You are the worst vet we have visited in 14 years of my dog being alive! Do not go here!! They just want $$

My little chihuahua Jack Russell mix got into with our other dog. Dr Bone was great with her and spent the time listening to my concerns and taking care of her. Provided detailed instructions on managing her recovery. Have been with them since Dr Bone's father was a veterinarian there and took care of our pets too!

Dr Bone and his staff helped my very best buddy cross the rainbow bridge. I was an emotional wreck, but Dr Bone and his staff were very supportive and kind to Jed and me in his last few moments. A few days after, I received a very nice card from the clinic staff expressing their sympathies for my loss.I can wholeheartedly recommend this clinic and staff.

Took my friend Brody with a huge cut and I thought it needed stitches but they said it wasn't bleeding enough while we waited for over a hour waiting for antibiotics and a bill while he bleeds all over the waiting room. I will never take any of my fur babies there again. Very unpleasant experience and will see them in court if they they send me a bill for no services rendered. Very rude and unpleasant and why won't they let you see what they are doing to your pet because they don't do anything and still send you a bill see you in court for malpractice.

I'm a littler torn on how to write this in the right light. I could be perceiving things more "sensitively" since its my cat, but I'll do my best to be unbiased. My cat's head was crushed in a car window when another cat stepped on the electric switch. I believe her jaw was compacted. Three different vets couldn't find any physical damage. Everything was were it should be, but over time her teeth started falling out. First time was two canine. That was it for three years and suddenly I noticed her tooth was infected at the other upper canine. So I called around and found two vets who could fit me in the next day. I choose Sierra Animal Hospital. This is were the real review starts: When the vet came in to see my cat, he opens her mouth and wiggles her tooth to show me it was loose. He seemed to be rough about it. He seemed to be a little rough in general. This is were I may be being bias and all vets would act the same way. You'll have to decide. It seems to me if you know it's causing her pain, why would you wiggle it? Then the real problem starts. I need to have her tooth extracted and the rest cleaned. I figured it was going to be expensive... $600-800 type expensive. Not Chemo type expensive. The bill to fix my cat is $1600-1800 on top of the $230 I just paid. That's $2,000 to pull a tooth and clean some of the remaining few she has left. I was in shock. I told them I had to think about it and went home with an antibiotic shot and steroids. Now I'm left with two choices... Pay $2,000 or hope my cat doesn't get worse and I have to put her down. So I did some research and here's what I found... Most local vets (especially the hospitals) have sold out to a handful of private equity firms. These firms keep the hospital's in the local names to foul us locals into thinking they're still locally owned. They have raised rates three times the rate of inflation in the last few years. They know many of us will pay thousands to save our pets, so they use that and a mostly cash business to put us in horrible positions. You pay or your pet suffers and dies or you put them down. The vet, who I won't mention by name out of respect, almost started crying and told me he's tired of having to put pets down. I didn't understand what I know now when he said that. Now I get it. The price gauging has gotten so out of hand that the term "economic euthanasia" was coined for having to put pets down because you can't afford to clean their teeth or other simple problems. Not cancer. Not accidents. Just price gauging because we pay or they die. What makes me think Sierra Animal Hospital may be one of these hospitals owned by a private equity firm is they pushed insurance on me to get me to pay the $1800 bill. Several of these private equity firms also own pet insurance and pet loan companies. So they can jack up the rates on one side and then get you insurance/loan to pay them back those high rates. The rest is done in cash. It's brilliant from a pure profit standpoint, but pets are being killed because of it. Veterinarians will have to decide if they keep serving these private equity firms and killing our pets for profits or start providing affordable local vet services to keep our pets healthy from basic issues. Had this of been cancer, I can see $2,000. But for pulling a tooth and cleaning her other (few) teeth is borderline criminal in my view. Four years ago, in the middle of the pandemic (with all it's shortages and staffing issues), I paid $600 to have something similar done on another cat's dental issues. I know what this use to cost not very long ago. This is only the beginning. As this economy continues to worsen, more and more people will have to kill their pets because local vet hospitals have made basic care outrageously unattainable. For me, I'll pray God keeps her mouth from becoming infected and causing her death. I'll do my best to care for her the best I can so she can pull through. If I must, I will take her and have her euthanized and that will be one hundred percent because I was charged $1800 instead of $600-800. At some point our hearts aren't you're weapons to our pocketbooks.

We were traveling thru the area and while out at the San Pedro riparian area our 11 year old pointer got a gash to the right front chest/leg, probably a 2" gash that would need stitches. Took her here and very grateful they could fit her in. Told us there would be a $150 emergency fee with an expected estimate of $1000. Shocked by that estimate - we had taken her to an emergency vet in Tucson last year for a seed in her ear which only cost $450 (and she was sedated for that procedure).Told us she wouldn't be ready for pickup until end of day (they took her around 1:00). Surprisingly called us at 3:00 that she was ready. The bill was $1060. She was groggy but moving. She has had sedation before but her reaction this time was terrible. Moaning, whining, anxious, shivering, couldn't sit still. This went on until almost midnight. Today she is better but still whining and moaning a bit. I will be looking at the itemized bill and taking it to our home vet to see what he gave that caused such a terrible reaction. The vet was Dr. Bones. Buyer beware.
