Had me buy an insurance policy before I was actually approved for the apartment. Of course I have a policy for an apartment that I don't rent. $250 down the drain......

I don't know why this apartment complex has such low ratings, I had a great experience living here! I had lived in two apartment complexes previous to this in Tucson, and both of them were trashy and cheap. This complex is anything but those things. I was immediately impressed when I came to this complex the first day by the buildings themselves. The community is gated and the buildings look new and not run-down like many places in Tucson currently look. It's in a very central area of town and stands out from the area around it in the sense that it looks pretty nice. The staff are all friendly and helpful! They were the first day, the last day at my walk-through, and anytime I needed help in between. I never had to put in any maintenance requests so I'm not sure about that particular thing, but I can honestly say I never had any problems living here. There are some questionable people around, but I'm starting to realize that there are those people almost anywhere you can live. At least the walls are thick enough here that you don't hear everything your neighbors are doing (I'm not even sure I had neighbors, given that I heard from them SO infrequently). I was actually sad to move out of here because I had such a positive experience and I'd grown rather attached to my apartment.

I have been living here for now almost 2 years and I can easily say it has been a great experience. My unit was remodeled before I moved in (which is actually why I picked it) and so far everything has worked properly. I am lucky to get along really well with everyone at the leasing office. Whenever I have issues they're on top of it, whenever I have packages they let me know right away, Heck, I've even asked them to put packages inside my apartment if I know I'm not gonna make it. They've always been really friendly and I know first hand they are constantly trying to come up with activities and events for residents. Smores, hot-dogs, pizza, even donuts and coffee I've gotten from them which only makes it that much more pleasant. One of the biggest advantages of this apartment complex is location. You're close to pretty much everything you might need. Groceries? Target is 4 minutes away, Fry's 5 and Safeway 10 minutes away. Food? Well, Oracle is a couple of blocks away so that pretty much says it all. Stone & 1st are packed with little restaurants you can either visit or some of those will actually deliver to the complex. Wanna go shopping? The Tucson Mall is probably not even 10 minutes away. And if you are a student at the University of Arizona. You'll be happy to know it takes about 10-12 minutes to get there depending on traffic, although I've had times early in the morning or at night when it takes me about 8. Or if you like biking, leave a half hour early and you're good to go. I was also really surprised when I saw the rating on Yelp was so low. Some of the main complaints I notice people has is old furniture and appliances. If you consider the fact this complex was built a really long time ago, they are constantly working hard to keep everything well-kept and looking good. Walk around the community and you will see what I mean. And within your apartment, if you ever have any issues, let them know at the office and you'll probably have maintenance knocking on your door not long after. But if you're really keen on having a newer apartment, they already have more upgraded units with new everything. That's what I got and I have NO complaints. If there was anything I would complain about, is the internet service. It is true you can only get COX. BUT, that is NOT management's fault. Neither Century Link nor Comcast have lines around this area so even if you wanted their service, it wouldn't be worth. How do I know this? I had Century Link before I moved here and I wanted to stay with them, but even my C.L. guy told, me "I don't recommend you keep it, because the max speed we can provide in your area is about 2MBPs (which is really slow), so you would be wasting money". So yeah, you have to stick to COX, but management is not to blame. Plus, if you know someone that works at Cox you can probably take advantage of some of their deals. Overall Sandstone Apartments is a great community to be in. I know saying the area is safe would be stretching it, but as I mentioned before, I've been here going on 2 years now and I've never had any issues. Love living here and the only reason you'll get me to move will be moving away from Tucson. If you're considering moving here and you're not sure, come talk to me and I'll give you some actual feedback. Ask at the office, they'll know who I am.

Totally avoid this place if possible. I lived here for almost 2 years and it was horrible. Crowd here is not attractive, crime increased significantly while I was here, and my car got broken into. New management was better, but still pathetic. The apartments are convenient as it is only a 10 minute drive to campus and they are nicer than some of the places around campus. Rent was also extremely low as I took over a friend's lease from ages ago. Would avoid this place though.

I'm giving it a 1 star rating because the office ladies are miserable. Don't get me wrong the place is nice and the community is quiet. My problem is soley with the main office lady, tall blonde I believe her name is Joy. My jaw dropped at how rude and unprofessional this woman is. I can hardly believe such a "high end" looking complex would have such a miserable person working let alone managing the office.

I've been living here for less than a year, and I've had a bike stolen off of a third story balcony (Talk about determination), the guy who stole it actually lives here and they did nothing about it.I've had my car broken into twice.I've been threatened to be evicted for a dog that weights 27 pounds (Limit is 25 pounds), even though they let me pay the 200 dollar deposit, and 15 dollars extra a month on my rent. The heater has NEVER worked, the air conditioning almost never works. If you live by the pool, the office, the weight room, the mailboxes, the dog park, the park, or any main paths, they'll nitpick about things on or around your patio, your animals, any noise you make, etc. So if you move in, make sure you get a unit in the back far from the parking lot, and far from any side walks. Most of the people housed here are not college like you would think, they are mostly large ethnic families that tend to be rather rude if speaking English at all. Finally, the fines are out of hand. I get a fine for just about anything they can think of. They charge me for parking, they charge me for a small trash can on my balcony, they charged me for a towel I was drying outside, they charged me for a chair that wasn't considered "patio furniture" even though it was. I think I've payed more in fines, than I do for rent.Would I recommend living here? Simply no.

I never had any trouble in the year that I lived there. The last day as I was packing up another resident student friend of mine got robbed at gun point. My father cosigned with me in 09 on a lease and after I moved out I owed $60 for carpet cleaning. That $60 went unpaid due to miscommunication that would have easily been fixed if we had received a bill or even a phone call. I received only one bill in May 2010 after I moved out sent to my mothers address. After that it was sent to collections and damaged both our credit scores over 100 points! I absolutely cannot believe they did not have the decency to call or even mail a second notice and that $60 dollars could do so much damage!!! Awful management by Kristy.
