Agustin Trading Company is first and foremost known for their handmade moccasins, which are gorgeous! And still on my wish list. But this locally owned shop, located at the Mercado San Agustin is packed will all kinds of other gems, such as beautiful jewelry, textlines, hats, pottery and more. I bought my husband a gorgeous Oscar Alexius cuff for Christmas. The jewelry is from well known artists and I think they are collectors items for sure. Jesse, the owner handmakes the moccasins. The process is really meant to be custom, so I suggest you give yourself time to get measured appropriately. One of my local favorites!

Customer service is horrible. In store, we were told 4 weeks.. 4 weeks came and gone.. went on the website and it said most orders take 6-8 weeks and if your order took longer, they would contact you. We had to contact them and were told the leather was just ordered. After waiting 8 weeks, I get the shoes from far away look good but up close shoddy work and poor quality. The website says everything is handmade and checked for quality assurance. They can not be the case. I waited 8 weeks for shoes that looked like they were rushed to be made. Apparent holes in the leather. I'll be contacting them tomorrow. Sucks because my boyfriend purchased these as a birthday gift for me and this has been an ordeal since. DO NOT BUY HERE! For the price and wait, I expect quality.

San Agustin Trading Co. is an interesting little shop within Mercado San Agustin, the public marketplace on Congress just west of I-10. I spent some time talking to the owner there, and he really knows his stuff. His store features Southwestern decor and Native American-style turquoise jewelry, but the real gem are his handcrafted moccasins. This is a great place to find a gift, and roaming around Mercado is fun, too.

I ordered my set of moccasins on October 15 and received them on November 10. They are absolutely awesome looking and fit perfectly. Called them up to let them know and they answered the phone politely and very quick.. The lady was very pleasant. I know things sometimes get messed up or something happens but this was my second time talking to them and they were always nice. Guess some of these people leaving bad reviews have an attitude for not reading how long it takes to make them which is listed on their site.

i do not recommend this store based on our experience there on Sunday morning, January 6. My husband and I walked in and saw 2 young women sitting on a bench inside, sipping coffee and talking. Neither looked at us, made any eye contact, made any sign that they noticed us at all even though we walked in front of them three times. After several minutes. I finally asked if either of them worked there. They both slowly stood up with eye rolls and sighs. One said: "I work here." That was it. No greeting, no smile, no "May I help you." Our first impression was that we were a big bother to her and her friend. Additionally, when I asked to try on a moccasin in my size, she simply said " That's not how we do it." We left and won't go back.

Buyer beware of prepaid orders! It took 10 weeks and six calls on my part to get my order and when it arrived one of the pairs of their expensive moccasins was the wrong size. I called right away to get the correct size or a refund but have not had anyone return my calls. Don't be fooled by the friendly staff. Customer service is terrible. They will not follow through with phone calls or texts even in response to their requests. Spend your money elsewhere.

I saw this store in late-April 2017 when strolling around one night having celebrated a friend's last day of work at San Agustin restaurant; she retired from her job at age 64. I went home -- I live in another state -- and decided to order a pair of custom, handmade moccasins. The instructions were quite involved -- I think it took me half an hour: tracing each foot, laying it out on a piece of paper in a certain configuration, measuring the width and length from certain points, finding the equivalency of my shoe size to the measuring system they used, etc. My size 8 1/2 equalled a 7 on their measuring system. I wrote a check and sent it and expected to wait six weeks for delivery, as per their brochure. I sent the order May 8 and two weeks later received a shipment (mailed May 17). Of course I was excited to receive my handmade leather, custom moccasins, but instead found myself trying on a pair of moccasins which were so small I couldn't even get my foot into the opening, let alone the shoe. It was considerably more narrow and more short than my foot. In fact, I saw a "6 1/2 C" written on the outside and the inside and suspected that they were not custom made at all, but just a pre-made pair from the retail store. (The very reason I wanted a custom made pair was because I have very wide, middle-aged feet, with bunions, and one foot is slightly longer than the other). This pair that did not even approximate the size of my feet. The leather was of cheapest grain that had no shape or body whatsoever; they just collapsed in a limp pile. The sole was a cheap plastic. They looked like something made in a child's art camp project. Plus they came a month ahead of schedule, further leading me to believe they were pulled from stock, not custom made. I called the owner Jessie Aguilar, very disappointed, and asked for a refund. He said he wanted a chance to resolve the situation. He said he would go to his workshop and call me back. A short time later, he called back and said he had located the original paperwork in the workshop; he would make a custom moccasin and then send me a prepaid label to send back the first pair. I was reluctant to agree, and asked for my money back. He promised that he would follow through and I'd be satisfied; he wanted to resolve this, he said, because if I wore his moccasins, then people would ask about them and then he'd get more orders. I reluctantly agreed but said that if it didn't work out, that I wanted my money back IN FULL. Two weeks later, on June 15, I had not received the shoes and never heard back from Mr. Aguiar. For the next two weeks I called and left email messages at least four times. In my June 23 voice message I asked for a refund. In my June 27 message I said if he did not issue a refund that I would take action. I never heard from him. Ten days later I received a delivery. To my even greater disappointment, this pair had a "7E" marked on the inside and the outside, and were for a narrow foot. I suspected that, contrary to what he said, he did not possess my original drawings -- because these were not the width of my feet. He'd sent another ready made pair. There was also no prepaid label that he'd promised with which to mail back the first pair. The mail date was six days after I told him that I would take action. On July 14, after speaking with legal counsel, I wrote him a letter to advise him that my contract with him was rescinded for material breach of contract: San Agustin Trading had agreed to deliver a custom made pair of handmade moccasins, but failed to do so. I asked for a full refund of $132.37. I also did research and found numerous complaints filed against Jessie Aguiar with the Attorney General of Arizona's office. Some complaints were against a previous business, 'Moccasins by Jessie.' Just before I sent the letter, I checked his website and found that in the intervening weeks, he had pulled down his content and changed it. Most importantly, he deleted all content mentioning the specifications and drawings he'd required for a custom made product and added a statement at the top of one page, first sentence, that stated he would never give a full refund. I sent the letter, certified mail -- meaning his signature was required -- as per the legal advise. Some weeks later, it was returned to me by the post office; Mr. Aguiar refused it. I only wish that I had paid with a credit card, not a personal check, because then I could contest it. I caution others about patronizing this business. This guy sounds sincere, his marketing makes it sound like he's a craftsman and cares about quality, that he relates to clients with integrity. The truth is that he's learned to market and he's slick. He lacks real substance, rather like his cheap shoe. B - E - W - A - R - E !
