Hubby and I were exploring the cool city of Tucson and we were checking out some of the beautiful homes in the foothills when we came across this trail. We decided to check it out and see if we could catch a sunset. There are multiples trails that veer off this trail and it is recommended to have a compass with you as the sometimes the trailsare not well marked. As you ascend, the Saguaros dot the landscape along with the wildflowers. Lots of solid and loose rock on the trail so be sure to have on good trail shoes or hiking boots. Although, we were not able to hike as far as we would have liked due to the sun setting, we stillwere able to catch a nice view of Tucson.I appreciate that this trail begins within a beautiful neighborhood. How lucky are these people?! It's like step out of your backyard into mother nature!

I came here on a Tuesday morning, and I saw a lot of people before the canyon. It was also quite warm. Into the canyon, there was a bit more shade, and I did about 2 miles in but the views were just okay, nothing too special.

I've always enjoyed hiking this trail normally it's one of the few places in the hot desert with water but sadly there was non to be found. Plus 2 miles in you'll see reminisce of our most recent fire which has sadly ravaged the land.

The plan was to get in a hike, burn lots of calories and then go cheer on the Wildcats in the Elite Eight over several beers with friends.Pima Canyon is such an enjoyable hike and just about anyone can do it. In fact, you'll see young children, old folks, tourists and day hikers like myself. So easy to get to with just a simple drive up Christie and a decent sized parking lot to leave your vehicle while you enjoy your hike. Pima is probably one of the easiest trails around Tucson which makes it really popular so it gets a bit crowded at times. Most people are very friendly, say hello and step aside when appropriate and necessary but on occasion you'll come upon someone who just doesn't get that there is some very simple trail etiquette however I think those individuals probably don't get everyday living etiquette. Anyways...Pima is an easy hike with some beautiful views and a bit of water here and there. I'm sure in the rainy season there's more flowing down the stream but yesterday we only came upon a few stagnant pools. If you're looking to get outdoors and enjoy some exercise I highly recommend the Pima Canyon Trail but get there early to get a parking spot. Just get out there, enjoy your surroundings, commune with nature and forget your cares.

Wow--what an amazing trail! I did this with some friends today and it is now my new favorite hike in Tucson. I am definitely tuckered out and we did about a ~6 mi trek (3 mi in and back). We hiked to the dam (really a barrier made out of rocks) which was a good spot to turn around and come back from. It was moderate with beautiful views and when you're in that gorgeous canyon looking around, it is just incredible. It is one of the most beautiful reminders of why Tucson is such a wonderful place to live.

I cannot believe living in Tucson and making my first trip to Pima Canyon Trail! This is honestly my favorite hiking trail I have been on in Tucson. I love that it is easy to get to and that the trail head is immediately off of the parking lot. It is enjoyable for most activity levels. After about a mile or two, some may want to turn around because it gets to being a moderate hike. One way according to the map is about 6.2 miles. My husband and I turned at about 3 miles doing out and back totaling 6 miles. I would love to come back with more provisions and do the whole trail. Before you get to halfway, there are some beautiful streams and an area with water, grass, and cottonwoods. You feel like you have completely escaped Tucson. The views on the entire hike are wonderful. If only I could ever dream to afford any of the beautiful houses near there. What a bonus to be able to see some really beautiful homes!A must try hike!

Access: 5/5. Located in the back of a foothills neighborhood, the trailhead is super convenient to get to and there are lots of signs showing how to get there and where to park. Parking: 3/5. Pretty small lot that was full by the time we got out at 10am on a Wednesday. I'd hate to see what it's like on weekends. Scenery/views: 1/5: do you like cacti? Do you like rocks? Do you like distant views of downtown, the desert, rocks, and cacti? All this and more on this trail... Clearly someone who appreciates that kind of scenery would rate this higher, but my buddy and I went 2.5 miles in and didn't see anything you can't see in a neighborhood in the foothillsDog friendliness: 0/5. It is not dog friendly. I have a dog who needs lots of exercising so I like to kill two birds with one stone by hiking with him. Again, for people for whom this isn't a priority than this isn't a big deal. Difficulty: I will rate it 4/5 because everyone I saw over the age of ~35 was sweating, short of breath, and/or using hiking poles. To the seasoned hiker this would probably be more on the 2/5 side.

This hike gets a little crazy after the initial first 2 miles... the "trail" kinda disappears and its mostly just rocks but its definitely not that bad. As you get higher and higher up the vegetation changes and its really just quite beautiful. Its about a 6 hour hike if you want to hike all the way to the end.. and its about 3 if you want to just get to the water area. This trail is perfect for people like me who live in Tucson.. its so close to get to.. just a quick drive up oracle and then turn right on magee to the end.

This trail is really easy to get to from downtown, just take 1st Ave until you can't go anymore, and hang a right. I went on this hike with a large group. It was a moderate hike. Half the group chose to turnaround about half way, but our group kept on truckin'. This was probably the farthest I have even hiked (~8 miles) and the hottest (I am still new here!). Just docking one star was I wish they allowed dogs.
