DAZZLED: OMD, MEMPHIS DESIGN, AND BEYOND
Cousin Lucky enjoying art.
I didn't know why this was here but I turned the crank and these popped out. Says we shouldn't use them on the back...

The Museum of Contemporary Art is making the most of its relatively small footprint, with distinct exhibitions such as "The Relevance of Your Data" and the Plein Air collection. The modern garage-style area at the entry is a versatile space for the Free Third Thursdays events, with indoor/outdoor flow allowing for music, food-truck access, and patio seating. A unique asset for Tucson's downtown art scene!

I love MOCA! I've been twice now and both exhibits have been so cool. Thought provoking, well curated & innovative. Definitely a must see if someone is visiting town. I went into 'Dazzled' today not having any idea what it was about and learned so much interesting stuff! (Like about the giant abstractly painted warships and how armies used ad-executives for master deception)- last time I was there that side room had some insanely provocative shrine-type setup, so cool. They have a super cute little shop at the entrance. It's only $5 to get in if you're not a member (and there are free days) and SO worth it. I like that the installations are multi-sensory experiences which speakers and/or headphones, etc. They were handing out free KXCI radio-station branded headphones today because they're a sponsor of the Dazzled exhibit, but I think they could've put more thought into this. I'm all for free swag and I see the link to the OMD music but they should give people a code to scan on their phones so they can use the headphones for an audio tour of the exhibit or something. Or an app linked to each aspect of the exhibit if you didn't want to put the other headphones on. Even a link to OMD Spotify playlist would be fun. ALSO the headphones should be decorated with unique Dazzle inspired design

I was here for a crossover event with Black Renaissance, a silent disco. I really enjoyed myself. I live less than a mile from the museum so I walked and the place looks like an old firehouse from the outside, how they had the doors open to the patio. There were a few food and drink vendors lined up outside as well. The art was beautiful, I don't recall the artist name and they had a few presentations available on Black History as that was the focus of the event.

I came here with my brother expecting a full blown museum filled with contemporary art. Instead, we walked into a large room with five or less somewhat underwhelming exhibits. There were a couple of other rooms too, mostly filled with art by UA or high school/elementary students. Our favorite part was comparing the work skill level to the student's age.I know contemporary art is highly subjective, but either way, there just isn't much to explore.

Interesting museum. Check the museum hours before you go. Especially in the summer. We got there a bit too early and had to wait around outside. Everything is Art, Friends!

Tonight was a talk with renowned contemporary glass artists Elinar and Jamex De La Torre. So interesting to hear about their projects in museums all over the world. A piece of their artwork is on View at MOCA as part of the exhibition: Nothing to Declare: Transnational Narratives.

I really enjoyed this museum of contemporary art. The exhibits change monthly and the last Sunday of every month is "pay what you wish day". We went and saw "dazzled" a representation of modern camouflage and how ships, people, and architecture have used it. I'm learning to appreciate contemporary art and this was a nice introduction.

really interesting place, my favorite part was the mini spot underneath the stair case that had a big beanbag, posters on the wall, some ambient lighting and a record player with an assortment of records on a shelf. me and my 3 other friends visiting from Tempe just sat there listening to music and catching up - it was really nice :) they also have a super cute shop right st the entrance where I bought this thumbs up pin, and a sticker!

"Museum" is a bit of a stretch, they don't have a collection of their own and there is really only one room, which makes it a glorified gallery with the well established MOCA brand slapped on it for instant credibility. The space is nice enough, and a good example of adaptive reuse. My big gripe is that there are no wall labels with artist's names and details, only a guide booklet they lend you at the entrance. The art is really hit or miss; some pieces are really great, others are haphazard at best. That said, I am glad to see the ethos of contemporary art alive and well- maybe the new director will help things out.

Absolutely love their vibes! The curated collections are so cool, I especially enjoyed their collection of scattered, funky poetry in late 2022. I think making art accessible is extremely important, so I love that they have pay what you can and donation days. Sure, it's not the biggest museum, and if you're from NYC or Chicago, where they have absolutely sprawling contemporary art spaces, then you may be a little underwhelmed. But despite its small size, I think that the galleries are curated very careful, with their size limits in mind. And I've never felt overcharged for what was on view at the time. Their special events are also super fun! I love that they get a dj or band, a food truck, and have beer on the third Thursday of the month. This was one of the first events I went to when I moved to Tucson, and it really set the tone for having fun in the city! Thank you to the MOCA staff for their efforts toward these great, accessible events.
