Maru Plus

Another great stop into local spot Maru. Definitely a top restaurant to explore and enjoy, I find myself here often. Today we stopped and got to enjoy the lunch specials which offered a great variety and was delicious. I got the Lunch Bento with some Agedashi and Avocado Sushi.

Stop by with my daughter after a swim meet. She ordered kids Tonkatsu ramen and I ordered my favorite delicious spicy pork Maze-men (dry noodle)The food are as delicious as always.The service were super.Very happy and satisfying to come here.

First off, loved the eclectic decor. It's giving an 80s vibe with a mural of Godzilla and its collection of toy figurines by the cash register counter. The indoor seating is spacious and so is their parking lot. As for the food I decided to try out their dry ramen and it was disappointing because the noodles were a bit overcooked and the meat topping was very salty. I couldn't even finish the dish. Thankfully the egg topping and the bokchoy that came with it were good. There were other customers that seemed to enjoy it there so I'll give it another try in the future.

Love this place! Been going here since it was Yoshimatsu. Allot has changed? You walk in and order at the front now instead of a traditional server taking your order. Honestly don't mind, very self serve friendly! Sushi is wonderful and tastes very fresh. Staff is very nice and ambiance is cute and allot of artwork. My only complaint is the miso soup. Instead of just tofu there is this spongy bread they've added to it and I do not like at all. Rather it be just classic miso soup with tofu. If it ain't broke why fix it type of thing. Just my opinion but the texture really throws me off and is not for me. Otherwise the sushi is some of my favorite in Tucson!

Really loved the summer soba special. It's such a good option for tucson summers when you want noodles, but it's too hot for soup (noodles are warm temperature). The tempura is also pretty crispy and yummy. The soba dipping sauce was also great for the tempura (improved w the onion crisps and sesame seeds from the sauce bar). Didn't love the matcha lemonade (did not expect/enjoy the sour bitter taste). Came back for a week later for the lunch bento (fish) which was also decent, but the soba is still #1 for now. I particularly enjoyed the croquette portion of the bento. Good value. It's a fairly casual store where you order at the front and then sit and wait for your food. Self-service water and sauce bar.

I really wanted to try Maru Plus because of their many vegan/vegetarian options. I was really disappointed in their food. The vegan mushroom ramen came with the mushiest rice noodles. The broth was very salty and one note (soy sauce) and the mushroom stems were completely raw . I couldn't eat it. The fried tofu appetizer was essentially the same as the mushroom ramen soup without the noodles. Soggy, gummy fried tofu sitting in soy broth. 2 stars because my husband thought his ramen (pumpkin ramen) was decent and they did refund my bowl of noodles. Sadly, I won't be back.

Maru's menu hasn't changed much from when it used to be Yoshimatsu; but now, instead of it being a sit down restaurant, you order at the counter in the back. There's also a salsa bar looking table that has ramen toppings like bean sprouts, green onions, different sauces (soy, ponzu). The food is still really good. Everything was fresh, crispy where it should be and well seasoned. I wish my poke deluxe had more fish, but that's the only gripe I have.You can also still buy some Japanese tchotchkes/figurines, which are all by the register.

We went for dinner and enjoyed the food so much. Love the decorations and the food was very good. The tempura was really good, the salmon dish was amazing and nice on a hot evening. It was easy to get in and seated. Please give them a try. You won't regret it.

So glad I finally checked out this place, formerly Yoshimatsu. The menu changed slightly (added onigiri/omisubi) and it's now order-at-the-counter service but the ownership and quality are still high. I ordered the kitsune (sweet tofu) udon and furikake onigiri, my friend ordered the seaweed salad, salmon nigiri, and tofu onigiri. I ordered an Asahi to drink but they had just changed the tap so the lady gave me a large Kirin at no extra charge, a very nice gesture.The onigiri are very large and one makes a pretty filling appetizer. I would try the tuna mayo or speciality one next time. The food came out very quickly, the udon hit the spot though I forgot how salty fish broth can be! Almost overpowering but the vegetables and tofu balanced it out. Overall, I would get everything again, just maybe sub the veg broth. They also have cute trinkets and gifts for sale. Maybe add some authentic Japanese music to complete the experience. This is a great spot for authentic Japanese food!

We were big fans of Yoshimatsu so we were hoping Maru Plus was just as good! We went around 8 pm, it was not busy so we were able to order and sit down right away. You order at the counter and then choose a table. The menu seemed similar to Yoshimatsu's with some new things too!I ordered a spicy salmon sushi roll, miso soup (*GLUTEN FREE!!*) and a salmon onigiri. My husband ordered the vegetable udon. Everything was very good! It's semi-rare to find gluten free miso soup at a restaurant, so I was very excited for that. I wish there was a larger miso soup to order. My sushi roll and onigiri were also very tasty. My husband loved his soup! Lots of different vegetables. I want to order this next time (but with rice noodles to make it gluten free), it looked so good!Staff was very friendly and service was prompt.
