Lookout Bar & Grille

The lookout was just what we were looking for after a long day of travel. (See what I did there?)Well curated southwest style dishes and excellent service made our visit a delight.Do check the specialty cocktail menu for a nice selection of beverages.A bit spendy, but we felt we got a good value for what we paid. Our only complaint is it is hard to see what is probably a spectacular view due to the glare from the harsh indoor lighting.

My husband and I made the mistake of having Christmas dinner at Lookout Bar & Grille. Apparently an inordinate number of kitchen and wait staff "called out", that was the excuse for our bad experience. We had a 6:00 PM reservation which we were on time for. At 6:35 we flagged someone down to take our drink order. It took another 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The food came much later. The beet salad was mostly tired greens with a few small beet cubes and barely any dressing. My husband had the prime rib from the Holiday Menu. It was one thin, dry, overcooked, tasteless slice of "prime" rib, same for the brussel sprouts which were spongy, the potatoes slices were clumped together like glue. I had the vegan avocado tacos from the regular menu which came with cold rice. The tacos themselves were pretty good, would have been better on the corn tortillas I asked for instead of the flour ones I received. The wait person was kind enough to comp our drinks (two glasses of wine and one soft drink) but it did not make up for an unappetizing, unappealing meal and experience.

My wife and I came here to listen to the music and grab a dinner. We were greeted and sat down by very friendly person. We then sat there for 30 minutes drinking water and nobody ever came back. I posted a picture of our table after 30 minutes, just two menus and two waters.The manager walked by us five times and there were two couples that were sat down after us ordered and got their food and we were still waiting for somebody. Our server finally came up and we said no thank you we're just gonna leave. We were prepared to pay probably $60 for two dinners instead we went to a different place. I gave it a two because the music was pretty good.

Meh. Drinks are weak with LOOTTTTTSSS of ice. Not vegan or vegetarian friendly. Nachos are cheaply made, very little cheese/other stuff. Lots of chips though! The patio-they can't afford sun shades? Please. We were holding menus in front of ourselves, changing seats, whatever we could do to avoid that sun when it started to come down.

The best view in Tucson! Also, the food was excellent. We stayed in the hotel for three nights and ate breakfast and dinners. The food is fresh and unique, we really enjoyed the vegan tamales and the club sandwich. For breakfast, we enjoyed the spinach and smoked salmon omelette and the assortment of grain bowls. Several vegan and vegetarian options. The ambience is pleasant, the staff members are friendly, and seem to care about the customers. Highly recommend!

Food was alright DEFINITELY not worth the price. SERVER JUDY was absolutely rude and grumpy. The way she approached us all loud and like she didn't want to be there was just awful. We were part of a big party and she didn't ask if we wanted to split the bill or anything. She set the bill down and walked off. One large bill that we wanted to split/charge to room but couldn't. She didn't bring us boxes until like 30 mins later. She set our food down really hard. Honestly giving one star mainly because of our server. Don't know how they think it's acceptable.

The bands are a fun addition to their happy hour. The bartender knows how to make a drink. The food is just OK.

What a disappointment. I should have read the reviews and skipped this place.Friend wanted to eat the hamburgers here as she had met another friend here and loved the hamburgers.So we met and headed into the dining room. It was a Saturday and the hotel was busy. The dining room was completely empty. A young man came from the back and told us to have a seat anywhere we wanted. He returned and said that the dining room was closed and that the bar was serving food, and directed us to the bar.We walked into the bar and the bartender told us to sit anywhere we wanted. She brought over menus; we picked what we wanted and 10 minutes later she was back and took our orders. We sat talking as the place filled up. I moved the center metal salt and pepper container away from us so we had more room. The table under the container was full of food crumbs and salt. When our hamburgers arrived (Tucson burger), friend's (ordered rare) burger was medium rare and my (ordered medium) burger was medium rare. So much for requesting a certain "cook" on the meat. The french fries were limp and not completely done. In asking for more water, it took 15 minutes to get it the first time, with me walking up to the bar with empty glasses (after requesting water 10 minutes earlier) to get refills the second time. The hamburgers were really good but this meal was not sixteen dollars good. The poor bartender was trying to keep up with all the people coming in. People were waiting for menus, drinks, food, checks- it was a mess. Just as we were leaving another server/bartender showed up to help out.I thought this place would have it together. It's an institution in Tucson that's been around forever. If the dining room is closed, people are going to want to eat somewhere on site if they're using the pool etc. But in looking at other reviews, the issues here have been around for awhile and haven't been addressed. Sad.....

We made reservations online for 6:45 PM because we wanted to try a new place. When we arrived inside of the Lookout Restaurant, no one greeted us. We stood around and had to ask one or two of the servers at the bar where we needed to go. Finally, Karisa Ranlord (we later found out was the manager according to our server) came up to us and asked if we had a reservation. She seemed very confused when we gave her our name and then she asked if we made it on OpenTable (we had). She had a stack of papers with notes written on the back of what looked like a children's menu and a handwritten seating chart that she was scanning for our name. Finally, she took us to the patio to a corner table (with no heat lamp) and another party's name on the table. We ordered appetizers, drinks and dinner. The appetizers came, but no one came back to our table again (not even to refill water) after that until 7:45.The manager and servers seemed to know the other guests, and they were super friendly with a few of the tables around us, but never made it back to ours. It was like being at a party you weren't invited to. Very surreal.The original server who took our order never returned, and then a new guy finally brought our meal (an hour later). We asked him about our drinks and if he could bring us some more water (& my daughter asked for mayo for her sandwich). About 10 more minutes passed and he didn't return. Finally I went and found him at the bar and told him we just wanted to cancel the drinks, we just wanted our check and more water. He was holding the mayo for my daughter and said nothing. I took it and left. Ten more minutes passed and he actually came out with the drinks I told him to cancel. We asked him again to just bring the check and water, no drinks and he said he would send the manager. We told him we just wanted the check and didn't want to speak with the manager. Soon the manager wandered over (after she and the server had a super obvious conversation in the dining room where they pointed at our table) and asked "Is there a problem here?". We explained we just wanted our check and to leave and that we had waited for our drinks and food for over an hour without even a water refill. We felt invisible and totally ignored. She said she would comp our bill which was fine but it was New Year's Eve and they completely ruined it for us. Honestly, it was a totally ridiculous and bizarre situation and needless to say , we will never return or recommend it to anyone.

Amazing food!! This place is underrated. Tequila pasta is to die for. We had a amazing server named Anthony. Will be coming back. :)
