At the Humane Society before adoption. So scrawny!
Parking on the perimeter, or parking inside close to the adoption center.

Brought in my kitties for spay. They gave great directions on the phone when making the appointment. Reminder call the day before was excellent to prevent forgetting to have them eat. They were open exactly on time. The staff was efficient, very kind and made me feel my pets were safe. Pickup was just as pleasant and easy. I was happy to donate when picking up my pets since this is the best Humane Society I have ever been to!

Vet shouldn't shame owners when their dogs aren't up to date on shots, while we're there to literally get shots. saying "these 3 are required but good owners will get all 5" or stating how they can put my dog down for not being up to date with rabies. All other staff was amazing.

Great animal shelter. They treat everyone well, including animals, and most volunteers are extremely freindly and helpful!

We had our two kittens neutered, vaccinated and chipped at the HSSA. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful (thanks to Katy for taking such great care of our boys!) The new location is great! We'd only ever been to the Kleindale location. My only complaint is that I asked to have the boys' ears tipped like they do for feral cats (in case they get out, it's good for people to see the tipped ear and know they're neutered) and it would have been helpful to have either a topical antibiotic or an ingestible to keep those ears from getting infected. After a couple of weeks, they're both fine and healing well, but there were a couple of sketchy days there where their tipped ears were red and angry-looking.

I failed to post my experience from March 2020. We adopted "Spanky" a goofy, but lovable Queensland hound/Great Dane mix. Travis K. was our Humane Society ambassador. Travis was top notch in helping us find our next family member, and while Spanky was my second choice, he was so meant to be for us! Little did I know how quickly I would fall for this guy. His name only lasted a day before my wife and daughter renamed him Archie. So fitting a name for so human an animal. Of the eight dogs I have had, none have been so affectionate as Archie. I could not be happier with the staff, especially Travis, at HSSA. All friendly, all professional, all truly dedicated to taking care of abandoned animals and finding forever homes for them.

I recently had a review of the Humane Society of Arizona removed by Yelp. This is unfortunate and extremely disappointing as I have been involved with the organization in the following ways:My family advised that house rabbits be surrendered to this organization. One of the rabbits surrendered was sent to a reptile breeder in the Phoenix area and its fate was likely to be used as feed for carnivorous reptiles. This was evidenced by an internal HSSA report. In addition, we have adopted multiple animals from this organization as well as made donations. We are local to the area and my review was based on our experiences and was both truthful and accurate.

I understand budget constraints and stuff like that, but when I bring a pet in that's been abandoned , they act like I was there trying to get rid of my pet that I didn't want. I donate to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona , and they wanted to charge me $90 to drop the cats off that somebody had abandoned. Now I'm already a recurring donor , so money I donate to help you guys out should also help adopting pets especially if I have to bring one in that somebody abandoned and I found it. Then on top of that they hold your license and ID until they can find somebody to adopt the pets . They said that way I wouldn't take off because a lot of people just bring the pets and take off. Well isn't that kind of their job to take in abandoned pets. I mean it's got to be more Humane than leaving the poor things to suffer on the street, or in the case of the ones that I found the kittens were left to die out in the hot sun. So I did the right thing, and they're trying to charge me for it. I didn't have $90. I had $30 and I went ahead and donated it. Don't penalize people that are trying to help the Humane Society of Southern arizona, especially if it's a recurring donor.

Adopted a dog and they withheld the issues with the dog. Went to a vet two weeks after adoption to be told there are issues that were not treated while in the HSSA care. Staff at the Humane Society could care less and stated that because I signed a waiver that's it's my problem now. This is my second adoption and I was a former foster, I will no longer go there, their care and empathy is nonexistent.

I am deeply saddened to learn that this establishment is not pro-choice in terms of end of life services. I have had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my elderly chihuahua down due to loss of quality of life. I was asked a few questions about how I came to that decision, and then the employee put me on hold to discuss it with someone else. I was told they would not allow me to make an appointment because they don't feel my reasons qualified. I do not even know if my responses were accurately forwarded since I was not involved in their private discussion. It is possible I could have provided additional information but a decision was already made and I was not asked additional questions. This felt like a retraumatizing event during a time when I was already in mourning. I liken the experience to women who have had to make the difficult decision to have an abortion and then be told they are not trustworthy or qualified to make that decision that is why I do not consider this establishment to be pro-choice for pets. It is also contradictory, considering healthy dogs who are not adopted are routinely euthanized. I was instructed to take my dog to a pet vet instead, which I will do, and I can trust I will not be unfairly judged. I share my experience as a way to reduce harm to other dog owners who are already faced with a difficult decision and do not deserve to be subjected to additional trauma. I trust most petowners who seek out the proper resources to be the qualified and caring advocate for their pet and support their choice. If someone is uncaring, unkind, cruel, or immoral in their decision, they would not seek this service to begin with. They would simply abandon or terminate the animal in a less humane way. This business practice truly hurts a community already in pain. My morals simply do not align with waiting till the last possible second with a pet in pain or has significant loss of quality of life and I am hurt that wasn't respected.
