Houghton Meat Market

The day before Christmas Eve, we called ahead and asked if they had any briskets. They said they did and could cut it to our requested size. My husband asked for 4-5 lbs. They said no problem, took his info and said it would be ready. I got there to pick it up a couple of hours later and they had no record of the order. But they were very nice and luckily, they still had brisket available, so I asked them to cut the 4-5 lbs. They said to give them a few minutes and it would be ready. Took them just a few minutes and as I was walking around, they left it at the front counter for me. When I got up there to pay for it, I noticed it looked rather large. I asked them how many pounds it was and it was over 6 lbs. Way more than what I needed. They offered to cut it, but I didn't want that 1 lb to get wasted since I don't think anyone would ever buy a 1lb brisket. While it was way more than what we asked for or needed, the family said it was delicious and they thoroughly enjoyed the holiday dinner, so everything ultimately worked out. Just with way more leftovers than I would have preferred. I'd go back again and would recommend it to others.

2" thick bone in ribeye was superb! Broiled 8 minutes on each side with a rub of S&P and a bit of garlic powder..medium rare. It was WONDERFUL! Tender, juicy high quality beef. Can't wait to pick up another one.

Amazing meat market! I needed a brisket, went to Costco first but now they only sell a whole one, more than 10 pounds, so I called Houghton Meat market and they had whole ones and cut it according to your needs. The brisket was delicious, thank you! Great service too!

We love Houghton Meat Market! Since day one we've been getting all of our steaks here plus other amazing food! The staff is amazing, kind, helpful and friendly!

It is OK. I have never had a bad experience here. I find the prices a bit high and the steaks we have bought the times we have been here are above average. I can't really criticize the quality, but I haven't been wowed. Service is good. I have never had any issues with anyone here. All were accommodating. I will make my way here again in the future, but I certainly need to check out other butchers and carnicerias in Tucson. The other items here, spices and soda pop, didn't really interest me, and there seems an overabundance of those two items.

30 seconds after entering the store, I knew I wasn't going to buy anything. There were two other customers, and two gentlemen behind the counter. When we entered, eye contact was made, but no greeting offered by either employee. I was about to offer a greeting, but decided against it. In my opinion, I am the potentially paying customer and should be recognized and appreciated.I did look at their prices on meat, and other offerings, and they seemed high, but I am no expert. I typically buy my meat at the grocery store. The salsa's and hot sauces looked to be marginally higher than what I would pay at a grocery store. It's a small business, I get it. I don't see myself being a customer here. And maybe they agree with that as well.

Great quality meats. We won't be going back to the grocery store for meat anytime soon!

I would highly suggest stopping by the Houghton meat market! They have sausage that are made in house, lots of premium meat selection, I love there "unique" meat selection (see pictures)! They have what you need for your BBQ from sauces to wood chips! As well as other treats such as premium jelly's ranging to snacks and food for your pet!!! The staff and owner were super helpful with all the questions I had!!! You should definitely stop in and check this place out!

Wow! I was very impressed with this little meat market and so glad that it's on the far East side too. I stopped by on a Sunday morning to see if they had any chorizo since the store bought ones give me heartburn lol They we're all out but he offered to make me some fresh! How great is that?! As soon as I got home I made it and it was delicious! The kids loved it too. The best part is that it didn't give me heartburn They have tons of meats, seafood and chicken to choose from. I was even able to find my mom some beef tongue there. There's lots of little extras to choose like mango peach jelly, chimchurri rubs, bbq sauce, pasta and pasta sauces. Staff was very friendly and the store was very clean. We will definitely be back!

Update to my review. Recently there has been an increase in prices (notably the sausages) and removal of some of the items (cookies that the kids loved) . The last couple times we went there they stopped the samples as well.It's still a nice local place but the price is starting to bring it down. We'll still go there but less frequently.
