This is only about the Deli counter. They now service Krispy Krunchy Chicken from 6AM to 7PM. I got the $5 deal. 2 pieces of chicken - the breast was juicy with a perfect thin crispy skin. No cotton mouth from too much salt like some fried chicken. A bunch of potato wedges - fine - nothing special. The biscuit was fair......but the chicken! With regards to the supermarket - also, nothing special. You shop here because it's close and it's fine. Not a destination supermarket. Although, occasionally their are produce specials that came direct from a local importer, like the half pallet of mangoes for 6.99 a box.

When you live in Tubac AZ the closest major supermarket...it this case Safeway is either in Nogales (20 minute drive) or Green Valley (20 minute drive). But, on the way to Nogales is the town of Rio Rico and they have a smaller Garrett's IGA Supermarket. (Just 10 minutes South of Tubac) This is a local market.. a good size... they cater mostly to the Mexican people, as the population in Rio Rico is primarily Mexican. But in addition, they have everything ANYONE really needs...when I lived here in Tubac I've gone there often to shop. Their fresh meats are really good... and on Thursday's they have their meat sales. Can't say I've ever gotten a bad piece of meat there... and the shrimp are great. So don't bypass it thinking they won't have the foods you need...they've got it all. Maybe they don't have 200 different kinds of breakfast cereal..but they have the basics. Also have a good bakery counter...love their bolla rolls (probably spelled this wrong).Highway 19 to Yavapai Drive. Check it out! You'll also find a pizza place, a dinner, a bank and a few other shops... and gas right across the street.

There's nothing special that makes Garrett's stick out from other grocery stores.....in fact, their slightly higher prices and limited selection actually make it pale compared to Wal-Mart or Safeway.BUT! Mad props to them for giving us a place to pick up our necessities without the half-hour plus drive to Nogales or Green Valley! As for why they get four stars? Their staff is generally very friendly and as an added bonus, they're open LATE! So even I can make a pit stop if necessary after I get out of work (usually showing up 'round eleven or so...)

The main reason I don't like shopping here is because there are always a couple of flies buzzing around the produce section. I think it is because they don't have one of those machines that blows air at you when you walk in the front door like most supermarkets. Anyway most of their stuff is fresh and reasonably priced. Not a huge amount of variety since it is a small store but I can usually find what I am looking for (or a reasonable substitute). As the other reviewers have mentioned, the main plus is that you don't have to go all the way to Nogales.

It's not the big blue box, but the convenience of having a local market is great. The regular prices on most the merchandise are higher than the major supermarkets, but the sale items, man oh man. IGA Garrett's has some of the best specials in the county. Milk for 1.99, steak for 1.37, bread loafs for 1.00, etc. The staff here is friendly also, mostly. The 1 day specials on Thursdays are also great, thank IGA, you have good prices and are locally owned and serve the local community of Rio Rico.

Never fails at this store the put ads on their weekly flyer and when you go to buy them they sold out.....always the same thing. They do it on purpose so when you get there you won't find what they advertised but you Wii's end up buying something else. When you run an ad you prepare yourself to fulfill the ad.

Have an ok selection for a small town. Can get everything cheaper if you drive down to Nogales. The staff has always been nice, and I have even enjoyed when I had to wait because the cashier was having an extended conversation with other clients.

Garretts gets 5 stars for their meat counter. Quality is much higher than average and the prces for meat are lower than Wal-mart or Safeway. There is always a special meat sale on Thursdays and they have their sales flyer online-- just google "garretts iga rio rico".The employees are so helpful. This is just a small grocery but it is a gem.

I use Garrett's 2-3 times a week. Their discount for Seniors is most helpful and helps offset their generally higher prices.I agree that their staff is generally helpful. New employees who have "attitudes" don't seem to last long, and many have been there for years.Their meat department is one of their biggest assets. The butchers are top-notch, and special meat orders are not a problem. All told, the overall slightly higher prices are a smaller price to pay than the gas for a 20 mile round trip to Nogales or 60 mile RT to Green Valley.
