The food is phenomenal at a great price. Higher class place so a little more pricey but cheaper than anywhere in the states. Staff speaks English as well (or at least some of them do) I feel very comfortable every time I go there. I plan on trying everything on the menu at least once as I have not yet had a bad dish there.

Came to Nogales last Saturday was recommended to come here by one of the locals. They had plenty of customers and we were the only tourists (nice), I knew we were in for a treat. It's a hotel, you go in through the main entrance, go through the lobby, make a right and there is the restaurant. It was very nice and clean inside definitely more upscale than the average restaurant in Nogales. We ordered chips and guacamole while we waited for our meals other than that I have no idea what we ordered but everything was delicious and so much food. Our waiter was really friendly, hardly spoke any English but made our experience very pleasant. Total bill came close to $28 which included two meals, chips & guacamole and tea (reminder - lots of food). So glad we were recommended to come here and will definitely be back next visit....maybe stay the night so we don't have to wait two hours to cross the boarder.

I ate here for lunch yesterday when I was in Nogales. This was my first time in Nogales so I wasn't really sure where to eat. I asked around and a couple of people mentioned Fray. I ordered the fajitas which were pretty good. The rice was a little drier than I like but overall it was a good meal. It was also very inexpensive. My whole meal totaled around 13 bucks. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was very clean. It is attached to a hotel which also looks very nice. Next time I am in town I will have to stay at the hotel for a night.

We stayed one night last weekend. Retro, yet elegant charm. Our room was impeccable. The service was excellent, including old school elevator valet! Only very minor peeve is no blow dryer or iron in room. We've had meals at the restaurant many times and they never disappoint. The food is always superbly made as the waiters super friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for affordable and pleasant accommodations in the heart of Nogales, Sonora. This is a city icon.

This place has delicious breakfast. Don't get worried when you see the prices, they are in pesos. As of now, the conversion rate is very favorable. The have a nice rustic setting and play some fun music. I pretty much like everything on the menu, especially the chilaquiles.

Things Fray Marcos succeeded in, that a $350/night NYC boutique hotel I recently stayed in for work, did not:- Doorman/concierge Sergio went out of his way with old world hospitality to make my husband and I feel welcome, and even got back to us with suggestions for where to spend New Years, as we hadn't made plans. (PS go to La Roca for a meal if you are in Nogales!)- Offered to call us a cab.- Showed up at the room within minutes of calling for bell service.- Honored our request for no maid service, but were there with towels when we needed them. - Free valet parking in a secured lot.- Staff wore crisp, clean uniforms and were all impeccably polite. My husband and I spend two nights here for New Years '14-'15, and were charmed with the building and the staff. You enter into the beautifully redone lobby through original wood revolving doors. Your room key is in an old fashioned 1950's holder behind the front desk. Your bags are helped to your room on a baggage cart, via an operator-run old fashioned 50's elevator. We requested a room in the back of the hotel, both for quiet and for a view of the town. The room was sunny with tall ceilings, but very simple. For $65/night the room was not luxurious, but it was definitely clean and functional. There was a flat screen tv, free wifi, coffee maker, a hot shower with good pressure, and room service available. We ate in the restaurant downstairs, and the food was good. The staff all through the hotel spoke varying degrees of english, from easily fluent to just-enough-to-get-by. We felt safe, well taken care of, and would definitely stay here again. If only there were more price-accessalble hotels in the US that would take a page of old-world charm from this place!

I have only been to the hotel for breakfast twice, but the second time I came to Nogales for their french toast. It truly is the best I have ever had. Service is great and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this hotel, especially if the rooms are as excellent as the staff and breakfasts.

I have been coming to Hotel Fray Marcos for over 20 years, mostly for lunch ,used to be dirt cheap now all Mexico is not. Great food close to the border and not to full of gringos.

Just finished a very satisfying lunch here. Lobby, restaurant and bar have been remodeled since we were here last. Looks great, great service and food. I love any place which serves breakfast all day. I got coffee and burritos de carne machaca (shredded beef) with scrambled eggs and beans. Husband had some dental work done, so numb mouth and all, he still raved about the soup, caldo Tlapeño ( We will return after many years of absence.
