This 747 sometimes is pulled back into service. So its not there all the time.
I took this picture looking over a fence.

To be truthful, we only visited the Commissary, Exchange and the Gas Station. They all seemed very well organized, clean and streamlined tidy. From a veteran non-resident's point of view, the Air Force bases located in the desert all seem the same. But, worth checking out for gas, food and/or lodging, if you have the access!

We love this base! We're from Tucson and been stationed at DM for 10 years, since my husbands start of career. The base offers lots of beautiful views and awesome sites of many different planes. I appreciate the play of Reveille and National Anthem each day. There's many parks and things to check out. We lived on base our first 4 years and now live off base but still go on base to take advantage of the secure parks and safe neighborhood play. The last couple years the base does awesome quarterly events that are seasonally themed with great giveaways and lots of entertainment. They also host air shows every couple of years. The year round wonderful weather in Tucson where the base is located isn't bad either :)

Note: this review is for the AMARG facility tour only.Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona is a home to largest airplane boneyard in the world. That's right, in the world. Normally, airplane graveyard are no access to general public - however, you can visit this one via Pima Air and Space Museum guided bus tour. Tours are available twice a day (depending on season), and require advance reservation with security pre-clearance. Well worth the time! It's definitely a sight to take in - over 4,000 aircraft from different eras and points of origin, U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, Coast Guard, NASA... Some are here on "Celebrity Row" to rest forever, and some being repaired and regenerated for future use.Amazing to visit.

Davis Monthan AFB is a great place for driving around and taking photos through the fence. If you take the tour, they limit you on what you can see. You can walk around a small yard with different types of aircraft for a fee. Or take a bus tour through the boneyard for another fee.Unfortunately the only photos that really came out were the ones that I took looking over the fence after the tour. Because of the bus' darken windows, all the photos that I took on the bus had a darkish blue tint on them. If you like aircraft boneyards get a tour at the Pinal Air park in Marana. Just north of Tucson. They will drive you out to six Boeing 747's that you can walk around for free.

Very cool! There were airplanes as far as the eye could see. I think it may be the largest airplane graveyard in the U.S. I'm not sure - we only drove around it. But, I was certainly entertained / or at least enjoyed looking at all of them.

We lived here up until 19 months ago and if you can "ignore" the area outside the gates, it's a really nice place to live. Beware, you've been warned! We lived in SrNCO housing and our home was great for the two of us. The lower enlisted housing can stand some updating. Everything on base was really convenient and as with any PX, it has a little bit of everything from garden supplies to clothing. The commissary is typical and directly across from the PX.There's a clinic, no full service hospital or emergency room. We're happy the Air Force "shared" with the Army! The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is due to the surrounding area and no full service hospital.

Little did I know when we first visited that this was home to a large meteorology squadron (and also my friend's dad was stationed here). Lots of airplanes and had a very clean, "white" feeling to it (and I mean this in more than aesthetics of the place). Very large base, but we didn't get to spend a whole lot of time here. I can see that it has a lot to offer

On a holiday weekend, one window open makes no sense. LONG wait and slow service, would be nice to have more workers

lodging was very good but the base it self is dismal. Nothing is open any longer. Movie theater, bowling alley, and NCO are all closed. Apparently not enough staff to run any longer.

Davis-Monthan is destroying their heritage. Just read where the U2 that was a primary aircraft at DM in the 60's has been dismantled and sent to Hill AFB. This is after DM destroyed a historic B-52 used in the Vietnam War. What is going to be next, removing the F4, F105, A-7. Surely not the A-10, but who knows where this is going to end.
