Every time I go shopping at the TJ's store on Campbell, I get to see the bats during summer if I'm there at the right time. It's a sight to see and I usually stand by my car and you should probably be standing in the parking lot too to get a full view of the thousands and thousands of bats that fly out from under the bridge where they nest. The bats are gone now until April or May when the weather is nice and warm at night for them to survive here.I was amazed the first time I saw so many little bats fly in such a short time. It's something special and more people should see this amazing displays of acrobatics the bats put on trying to catch flying insects during summer.

Bats migrate. I'm only giving this 5 stars because I don't want the ratings to go down, but we didn't see any bats because they apparently flew to Baja. Didn't realize that happened. Don't try to see them in January.

If you ever wanted to relive the bar cave moment from the first Christopher Nolan Batman movie then this is the place to go. Except it's under a bridge. After scaring away the potential homeless sleeping under the bridge you will arrive upon a plaque with various fun facts describing the massive colony under the bridge. The bat shit crazy part is the fact that you'll definitely either step into bat feces or have them dropped on to you by the flying rodents themselves. Best time to go is about an hour before sunset. The bats typically emerge 45 minutes before sunset.

I love bats, so was quite excited to hear I could watch a colony here. Not quite as overwhelming as I hoped, but still plenty awesome for nature lovers!

Was down here for a quick business trip for the night and we were parked about to head into Scordato's Pizzeria when our local Tucson guy was telling us about these bats that fly out from under the bridge. I didn't believe him at first but then seen several groups of people standing around on both sides of the bridge and you can hear the bats as well.We waited about 10 minutes since it was right around sunset, then before you know it, bats just started streaming out from under the bridge and out into the dark night sky. They just kept flying out which had me wondering how so many could fit under the bridge. We stuck around for about another 5 minutes and walked to the pizza place as the bats continued to stream out.

The Campbell Avenue Bat Colony is quite the site to behold in Tucson! The bats are in the business of mesmerizing those lucky enough to catch them leaving the bat cave under the bridge. Also, if you are running or biking on the Rillito River Path during the day, you get a strong whiff of their bat guano. Ace Ventura would be proud. Here's a video of them at dusk:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuvO3f6vpb0

It's an amazing spectacle to see the bat colony flutter about over your head as the day transitions into night. We came upon this area by accident when we were walking our dogs. It's truly a sight to see!

This is free and amazing and you probably drove over it a million times and didn't even know it. The bats come visit seasonally...generally during monsoon season, when the tasty bugs are at their peak. Park at Trader Joe's at Campbell and Limberlost, then wander down to the underpass and wait (you'll look a little homeless, but trust me - it's worth it). The bats live in the underpass during the day, then come out at dusk. When they come out, they literally create a cloud in the sky...there are that many of them. A great activity for kids. It's pretty cool.

Great experience, but I do not recommend standing underneath the overpass in the bat droppings... you have to time it just right before sunset
