Similar to the "unassuming" comment someone wrote, Buendia's outside is in fact plain and not particularly eye-catching. Yet, my daughter and I felt we were in someone's home as soon as we stepped foot in here. The prompt "Buendia" greeting, the eye contact, the genuineness, the comforting feel, the welcoming atmosphere are all here at this Mexican restaurant in Tucson. From burritos, huevos rancheros, etc- to the basic pork, poultry, seafood proteins, Buendia has something for everyone. I'm not sure what Buendia is known for- but this family certainly has tasty food at reasonable prices. My breaded fish tacos and my daughter's fish and veg were all savory. The presentation is straightforward and ingredients, are wholesome. But it was my fresh limenade, that was EVERYTHING. I love the personal touch and "homey" feel here. Food might be simple- but it's hearty.

Buendia was listed as a must-visit for the Tucson area, so I was excited to go for breakfast. But we severely underestimated how crowded it would be even for early breakfast hours. We decided to get our food to go than to wait for a table, which seemed like it was going to take a good 45 minutes to an hour. I got the breakfast burrito with nopales, and my brother got one with chorizo. We waited quite a while to get our food. The restaurant is very small and quaint, lots of people chatting and the kitchen and staff hustling to serve food. It is quite cute, so it could be worth the waiting and rubbing elbows with your neighbor if you're not in a rush. When we finally got our food, the waitress (who was also manning the front cash register and being the hostess at the same time) sprinkles on some happiness to our order (though I had to go back to get utensils and napkins). I liked my burrito, as nopal is not easy to get where I live in New York. I thought the eggs were decent, and I loved the smoky flavor of the salsa. The beans made it a pretty hefty meal. My brother said the chorizo burrito wasn't as flavorful as he thought it would be. I'm not sure if this is a "must visit" place if you look purely at food. The food was just ok. But the ambience and the friendliness of the staff, as well as the cultural significance of Buendia bumped this place up a little bit.

Buendia is an absolute gem! The outside is unassuming but the interior is so charming. It's small and intimate and I love the ceiling. Service is friendly and I love the alegria they sprinkle on your food! So cute. Now the number one reason I love this place is the food. And the drinks! The cinnamon tea is my favorite but the cafe de olla is so good too. I recently visited with my family for Sonoran Restaurant Week and we enjoyed their $15 deal, which featured your choice of coffee de olla or cinnamon iced tea, a few options for entrees, and a rice pudding. I went with the huevos rancheros and it was delicious! The only thing not quite up to par was the breakfast potatoes. They weren't very good--not cooked to my liking--especially compared to everything else. I honestly think they should skip serving the potatoes because they aren't really necessary...and not very good. But everything else--yummmm! This is a must visit place when in Tucson, in my opinion, and I hope to be back very soon!

Buendia is worth the wait! Our first time trying to visit we left because we didn't have time to spare. Our second time trying to visit we arrived knowing there might be an extended wait. We were told it would be 45 minutes. It was closer to 30. It would have been worth 3 times that long. This place feels like home and the food is as comforting as your abuelitas. The Lunch Poblano was the hit of the table, but the empanadas and tacos were showstoppers in and of themselves. Also, the Caldo de Queso was delicious and authentic. The space is pretty cozy, but not cramped, and the service we received from Ana, our server, was warm and courteous. I can't wait to bring my Tia here, so we'll be back soon!

Got to go breakfast burritos for my parents and me. I've eaten here on a few different occasions, but sometimes avoid it due to how busy and crowded they normally are. Saturday morning I was able to get a parking spot right in front and needed to wait a few minutes for my order. They also sprinkle "allegria" or happiness into each order that includes to go orders which is fun. The burritos are excellent and the vibe is positive. A good way to describe this place is joy in great food.

We went here during the Sonoran restaurant week and we decided to try it since we never been here. They had a fixed menu for $15 that included a delicious cinnamon tea or cafe de la olla (so good!). I decided to try the Tacos dorado ( super crispy with a great filling of meat and potatoes) my friend ordered the carne con chile burrito( good but a little too smokey for my taste). Then at the end they brought us a cute little cup with arroz con leche (not my favorite to be honest but edible). Our waitress was wonderful and efficient.

We both had fried eggs on the tops of tortilla chips and red sauce on one and green sauce on the other. An excellent breakfast. When we got there they said a 10 to 15 minute wait. But we were seated in five or six minutes. Good service. Reasonable prices especially now that eggs are so expensive. Great value.
