Belle Starr's Sliverado Ranch is located on historic Highway 80 between Bisbee and Douglas, Arizona, right at mile marker 353. I visited the ranch on the suggestion from a friend in California and it was everything I had hoped and dreamed it would be.Silverado Ranch is the brainchild of 83 year old Belle Starr. On the ranch they have almost 40 horses, two dozen donkeys, mules and a massive assortment of birds. The mission of the ranch is to provide a place for the disabled, veterans and touring artists to rest their weary bones and get some therapeutic R&R. As a non-profit it is solely funded by the donations of the kind visitors, the folks who come out to play during the day and other wonderful people from around the world.Silverado has a number of cabins, RV sites with full hookups and more campsites that I can count. Best part is that "Boondockers are welcome" just like the sign says. They do not "charge" to stay on the property but they do have a suggested donation table posted out front. The property has full electric, water, internet, showers, outhouses, laundry facility and more. This is a great place to come rest your traveling bones for a few days or more.Best part is Silverado Ranch offers a number of fun and exciting things to do during the day including guided hikes into the Mule Mountains, horseback riding, buggy rides around the property, rock climbing in the nearby Twin Buttes and much more. They plan to open a 100 yard shooting range by May and a new on-site saloon/social hall at that same time. This is one great place to hang out, have fun and escape city life. I will definitely be coming back regularly. I almost forgot the best part of the whole place, Belle Starr herself, she is an amazing and spunky lady who loves to show the new people around the site and introduce them to all the horses (that she named herself and knows every single one by site). Belle Starr's Silverado, a great place to escape, calm your nerves or explore your "outdoorsy" side.
