So far so good. Our kinder experience at Basis Tucson Primary has been a lot better than our prek experience at Leman Academy. The school strongly emphasizes academics and kids are given letter/percentage grades like high schools do. Yes there's pressure but nothing we can't handle so far. My complaints:1. De-prioritization of physical activity. You have to put your child in an after school club (more money) for dance, bowling, and other movement-based activities. I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with hot lunch once. I learned a lot. Like just how short lunch is; it explained why my daughter was hungry but had uneaten food in her lunch last semester. Volunteering has opened my eyes and I started packing her lunches a little differently2. It's a charter school so they have to raise money. However, the fundraiser updates in the app are ridiculous. Class vs class, grade vs grade. Everyone hurry and donate before the deadline...use the AZ tax credit...oh the deadline has been extended so you can donate more (no surprise)None of the issues I mentioned are major to me. Why? Because my kindergartener is reading, can read digital and analog clocks, she can add double-digit numbers, etc but her friends who are in 1st and 2nd grade in TUSD schools aren't there yet. The academic advantage Basis provides is unparalleled without attending an expensive private schoolBut there are pros and cons to each school and I've included a couple for potential parents considering the school

The school does not care about the kids at all. All they care about is their benefit. No wonder so many good teachers left and they kept getting inexperienced people as teachers there. No teaching certificate, still under training but already work as lead teacher. So many tragic incidents happened to my kid and my friend's kids. But the school deal with it not based on facts or fairness, but based on their interest. I won't recommend this school to anyone I care about.

Great school . Our daughter has thrived with lots of close friends . She is far ahead of where I expected her to be academically . They do a great job keeping the parents informed and engaged in their children's education ,

Basis had gone beyond our expectations in Kindergarten with our boy/ girl twins. Such a great diverse curriculum (Mandarin, drama, art, music, engineering, math, science, language arts and so much more). A variety of after school programs from running clubs, soccer, yoga, kindness club, chess, you name it they have it. Basis has been valuable in meeting the the academic, social, emotional and cultural needs of our children's different Learning personalities and styles. Also, they have their own journal to write down their homework assignments and keep track of what they have learned from the day. Teachers help them learn early organizational/ study skills which we find to be extremely important. So happy we decided on this school, and YES Basis definitely lets kids be kids, but with a healthy sense of accountability and responsibility. There is age appropriate homework which the kids actually look forward too (about 15 to 20 min a night). Highly highly highly highly recommend!

Basis has been a godsend for my daughter. Curriculum is challenging and the homework can be a little overwhelming but the education she is receiving is excellent. This is her third year attending and every year she has excelled. It Is teaching her things like responsibility and the importance of putting her education first. I do wish that it was a open campus and we were able to know her teacher is a bit better. I do worry about when she gets older about finding time to do extracurricular activities. But overall I am very pleased.

We love Basis Tucson after our daughters first year, but agreed to take it year by year and as long as it is a good fit for her we will continue having her attend. The curriculum is challenging enough for the kids and the resources to the students are plentiful. Our daughter thrived and had wonderful teachers. The only thing I really don't like is I wish they were more open doors and allowed parents to come in regularly.

The administration is bigoted against disabled parents and have intentionally meddled in my custody battle to try to help my ex by wording notes in IEP meetings to make me look unreasonable, after they intentionally pretend I'm not there or call into question my sons proven diagnosis. They allowed my ex in meetings with me, despite me giving them a copy of my order of protection against him, ahead of time to trigger me. The head of the school told me I needed my ex's permission to take my son out of dodgeball, because of joint decision making. However, I was never even notified he was in dodgeball till he had SEVERE injuries due to his disabilities that affects coordination and attract bullies! The school staff is extremely bigoted and attempting to affect my custody battle by giving notes of me having to remind them I exist in the IEP meeting, that my sons diagnosis is already confirmed etc. The school staff are incompetent, bigoted bullies!
