We tried to adopt a dog but it didn't work out, but getting in touch with them was HARD. The communication proces would have made Rube Goldberg proud. The number on the website went to a fax machine (remember those???). No email is listed on the website so we went to Pet Finder to send a message. No answer of course, but someone responded to our Facebook message saying the dog is in the shelter and come down during their limited hours. As we were about to make the trek from Tucson to Green Valley, the lady Facebook messaged saying oh dog is with a foster, call this lady instead. We did and got hung up twice, with an angry gentleman saying no such person lived here. Yikes.Somehow we got in touch with this lady (through Facebook stalking I think... Not my proudest moment) but man, what a process!I understand the entire staff is volunteer and technology might not be their thing, but I wish they got the stuff together a little better. If you want to adopt from this place, get your pony express and smoke signals ready.

I have raised several dogs/cats I rescued from various shelters around the USA, with never a problem. My experience at GV Animal League was a disappointing waste of my time. The purpose of the League SHOULD be finding homes for helpless animals. Here the "staff" apparently feel the purpose of the League is to allow them to play little power games and bully around innocent citizens, which citizens love animals and come there to give an animal a home. Every 5 minutes the extremely unpleasant person I had to deal with was giving me another little "rule" I had to follow to adopt a pet, while she kept ignoring my attempts to like make an appointment. NEVER, at shelters all over the USA, have I been treated so dismissively. So I just gave up, and a sweet dog did NOT get a new home. I WORK for a living, and simply do not have time for their games, but as it was I lost 1/2 a day being jerked around by the "volunteers". None of them are animal psychologists, and they are incapable of assessing these animals anyway. For the sake of the helpless animals, which is what this shelter is FOR, you need to get rid of this entire lot and find people who put the animals first.

I adopted a cat in from the Animal League of Green Valley on October 18, 2017. Mitzie is a senior cat. At the time of adoption, I agreed that TALGV pay for Mitzie's cost of veterinary care essential to her quality of life while residing in Arizona. I agreed to obtain prior authorization from TALGV (and, specifically, from Jean Davis: 520-603-0982) for the treatment and concurred that TALGV choose the veterinarian for this service.Mitzie developed an issue during her first week in my care. I spoke with Ms. Davis who authorized me to take Mitzie to Spanish Trail Pet Clinic under the care of Donald DeShazer, DVM. The issue was resolved successfully and without further medical intervention.Spanish Trail Pet Clinic sent a reminder to me in April, 2018, that Mitzie is due to receive preventative care exam, senior preventative health panel, dental health evaluation and revolution parasite protection. I telephoned Ms. Davis , relayed the information via voice mail, and requested authorization to make an appointment for Mitzie to receive this care. Ms. David was unresponsive to my request.I received two additional notices from Mitzie's veterinarian, telephoned Ms. Davis to make arrangement for Mitzie's care, and received no response to my repeated attempts to reach Ms. Davis.Spanish Trail Pet Clinic recommendations that senior cats receive bi-annual examinations and ensuing care to help the veterinarian identify potential health problems as soon as they develop. I would like to comply with this recommendation and ask Ms. Davis or, in her absence, another representative of The Animal League of Green Valley contact me directly at 713-213-5317 or via my private email: [email protected] to authorize treatment for Mitzie.Dr. Linda Harrington

I couldn't bear to bring my doggie in, so some friends of mine did it for me and they had nothing but rave reviews to say about how wonderful everyone was. Thank you ladies.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THESE CLUELESS PEOPLE OPERATING THIS PLACE. We made an appointment to adopt a mid-sized 2-1/2 year old female dog we checked out on their web page. And had called and spoken to several people here prior to heading down to adopt a friend for our dog.We were told that if we had a dog, to bring him along to make sure they would get along. Our dog is a rescue pitbull terrier and we have put $2000 into bark-busters and 2 years of training into our wonderful dog. He has never bitten or barked at any person, children, our grandchildren or any other dogs or their owners we have ran into during morning walks. He turned out to be a great family pet and member. When we arrived we were told to park in the back and wait for TALGV handler to bring out the female dog we were trying to adopt to meet and greet with our dog. We were kinda barked back by the handler and told to keep our calm dog back. He was wagging its tail and anxious to meet his new friend BUT because the new dog "barked" at our dog, she said we wouldn't be allowed to adopt the dog. BARKING ONCE AT OUR DOG WAS THE REASON WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO ADOPT. These people (women) running this place are "clueless" and from what we witnessed, have no common sense or experience with canines. No thank you for trying, no apologies for the lengthy trip, nothing, the two young female handlers from TALGV just walked off. We were dumb-founded.While we were there we noticed 5 or 6 big dogs in dog pens outside in direct sunlight. It was about 100 degrees at the time. That to us looked like cruelty.A mirror image of PACC but smaller, all woman-run power tripped people running this place. A 501 C NON PROFIT (like most) that is PROFITING VERY WELL.

I've read reviews posted here and I have to agree with some reviews that some volunteers work there do play petty power games with you. They go beyond concerns for the pet you want's welfare and become rude. Some of them are excellent, helpful volunteers at the same time. Be mentally prepared when you go there. Don't let the over fussy old volunteers who seen to be working there a long time. They seem to get their pleasure out of playing games with you. Do take friends with you so they can't intimidate or ignore your concerns.

As I read on a review before I posted mine. Yes there is a lack of communication, lack of respect and honesty. We aren't upset we didn't get the animal. We found something else. But I was attacked and my personal info information was put out there and my children were brought up. I am allow to post my own personal opinion that's why it's called reviews. I did threaten the person that if mine and my family Information get put out there again that I will take this to the police. These people claim they don't use pet finder nor Facebook but it's very clear that they do because pictures were updated on both Facebook and pet finder for the animals they have and when I walked in I saw Facebook on the computer screen and dog pictures being uploaded. They do not care how they treat people but also they don't care about rehoming pets. I will never recommend anyone to this place because I wouldn't want them to also have a bad experience. Please look into things and read reviews before going anywhere.

The two stars are for the fact that they rescue animals in a no-kill shelter. The lack of stars is for how they treat people on the phone and how they play favorites with who gets to adopt (this isn't just my opinion, but also an experience my neighbor told me happened to them as well). I was interested in a dog that had just come on the site a day before so called when they opened the next morning. I was told "that dog has already been adopted", then whoever answered the phone just hung up on me. About as rude as it gets. Any future donations from me just went out the window.
