I sat in on a Rhumba dance class to which I was NOT impressed. First, the class started and the instructor walked out half way through to go refresh her deodorant and mess with her phone, leaving the assistant instructor to finish teaching the class. Instead of doing her personal refresh in the bathroom located five feet away from the kitchenette counter inside the studio, she did it right there at the counter for everyone to see. She was not very good of an instructor to begin with and was asking the other instructor questions rather than knowing what she was doing. There is also another said "popular" dance teacher there, a very strange looking man who has apparently been dancing for quite some time but after watching him dance, I was put at unease. He was very impatient, poorly coached and had no people skills whatsoever. I was there to decide whether or not American Dance Ballroom Dance Studio would be a good place to take lessons. The owner of the studio had a friend of mine employed with her for a short period of time and was very rudely unreasonable and when she terminated his employment she decided to leave a voicemail on a friends phone instead of calling him properly like a professional business owner should. Even if they don't give reason, leaving a VOICEMAIL is not a very award winning way to terminate someone from employment. I sat in on my friends classes too, and to be honest, the other instructors were taking coaching from him because they even acknowledged that their skills needed his sharp technique to improve. That says a lot to someone sitting in watching what could potentially be a lesson seller for a new student. I met the owner, Elizabeth who is quite rude and stuck up right off the bat. She is outrageously priced for the quality of instruction I would have received had I taken lessons from her studio. I decided to go with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio at Grant and Alvernon instead because even though it was also highly priced, the instructors there were VERY personable and very professional. I will not visit American Dance again, and I also will not recommend anyone I know to attend lessons or make purchases from this low rent version of Fred Astaire Dance Studios or Shall We Dance Studios.

My wife and I have taken lessons for five years and highly recommend American Dance. Great instructors and great location. The staff will tailor your lessons to your skill level and have you steadily progress from there. Group classes and social dancing each week are a great offering here as well. Five stars for a great studio!!

I have to agree with a previous comment about the poor coaching. But my main issue was the owner of the studio. She is so unprofessional I had the worst experience with her. It started with one of her Instructors who did not know how to run my bank card as a credit it was normal bank card so there should have been no issue but regardless there was. So I happen to come in the last day of the month which was the last day of the special she was promoting on the Facebook page. So after talking with the instructor I agreed to come back and I figured the special would be honored and it was not. At that point I felt obligated to join so I figured I had been wanting to take classes so I ended up paying the full price to take 3 private lessons and 2 parties (I think that may not be exact). So anyhow I will say my instructor (a young man whos name I do not remember) was nice and Professional I have no quarrels with him the problem was with the owner. So to keep this somewhat short I came in to talk to him and set up my second lesson and I seen the owner in there and she was giving a lesson and I thought I should bring it up to him and maybe we could talk it over with her and they can fix this and do what was right. I quickly found out that was not going to happen. I was discussing it with him and he seemed hesitate about it and I did not interrupt her lesson I would not do that but she came over to us, maybe seeing us talk for a while idk, but she said what's going on? So I told her and she got spastic to the point I think she is mentally unstable. She goes "No I am not giving you anything (screaming) there was no special what are you talking about" and rambling on. Then she went back to her dance lesson with this gentleman who I felt so bad for. So I continued to tell the instructor "This is not right and I really think this is unfair" and reminding him I was here on the last day of the special. As I was speaking to him hoping he could fix this she stormed over again and yelled "Are you still going on about this! OMG!" and He told her "I can handle this" and she yells "No I want to know what is going on OMG fine you want your money" and storms to the back and comes back with the cash and slings it at me and swears there was no special. I was so shocked I have never experienced anything like this in my life! I tried to tell her there was a special on facebook and she started screaming "you got your money get out get out" over and over and I told her you are so rude and unprofessional and thats when she just said "No you are, you are, you are" over and over and over I could not even talk I told her I was going to review her and she yelled "Go ahead I don't care" and that was that I left and I still had two parties that was included in the package that I never used because I was not going to return there. This has been a while since this happened but I was avoiding writing this review it was a bad experience I have been trying to forget about. But I figured I should give everyone a fair warning. I was also hesitant because she had my card information etc... I do not trust her at all. For the record none if this is dramatized or a lie and if anyone has any questions feel free to contact me about it. Do not give her your business.

I can wholeheartedly endorse Elizabeth and the American Dance Studio. I have always felt that I cannot dance. I have no ear, no rhythm, etc. I decided to treat myself to private dance lessons 3 months ago. I wanted the confidence to go dancing and enjoy healthy fun exercise. I am so glad I did! Elizabeth is a skilled and experienced instructor, she has made me feel at ease at all times. Part of the dance package is group social dances. I was afraid, not just nervous but truly afraid to go by myself to my first event. Everyone was so warm and encouraging, it has really boosted my confidence! Elizabeth has created a wonderful studio community that you can't find anywhere else. If you ever wanted to learn to dance but thought you couldn't I encourage you to give American Dance LLC a try!!

I have been dancing with my wife at American Dance for almost three years. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and always eager to accommodate. They teach a wide variety of ballroom dances, and, although we concentrate on Smooth and Latin dances, they are able to teach just about any style including CW, Swing, Polka, Hustle, and just about any other partner dance you can think of. The students at AD are all very friendly and supportive, and with the opportunities of group classes and practice parties, they have become almost like a second family. Our skills have improved immensely under their tutelage, and we have even come to the point of being comfortable in dancing publicly in expositions and even competitions. Dancing is one of the most fun things I have ever done. It is a blast, and it is legal! Besides, it's cheaper than golf.

This is my 10th year dancing at American Dance LLC. In that time I've improved my dance skills and levels (working on Gold level in Rumba). I have and continue to enjoy all the lessons, coaching/instruction with some very great professional dancers, group classes, dance parties, and some truly fabulous competitions in really nice places. The studio always has a great family type of welcoming atmosphere. The studio is a great place to learn social dancing and progress to competitive dancing, if that is your desire. I highly recommend American Dance LLC as a place to learn to dance and have fun dancing. Do it again? Most definitely. Thank you

My husband and I have been taking lessons at American Dance, both separately and together, for the last two years. We enjoy it very much. The instruction is tailored to meet your skill level, and the instructors we have had were helpful and fun to work with. The people who attend the group dances and get-togethers are all very friendly. It is a welcoming place. I look forward to more lessons and activities at American Dance. I can't recommend it enough. If you want to learn how to dance, this is the place to go.

I took their introductory course and it was ok. The location is weird and could be better. There only seemed to be only one good teacher their and nobody seemed to like being there. I felt like the owner was condescending, abrasive and boring as well. I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend it. They should make some improvements especially to their sign.

My husband and I have been taking lessons (together and individually) for approximately 6 months. While having NO background in dance, as a health care provider and academician I am well aware of the potential benefits of dancing. The instructors at American Dance are stellar and while adhering to prescribed competencies for the different levels, tailor the lessons to the individual. The benefits -physical, cognitive, and social - have exceeded our expectations. Kudos to Elizabeth who has mentored both instructors and students. And kudos to Rene, Jackie, and Sarah as members of the team.
