I bought new glass frames there, Jummy Choos, but when I later asked them to bring in the ear pieces (they were too far apart) the guy told me he would try but if they broke (i.e., if he broke the frames) the shop wouldn't stand behind the glasses. I would be out of luck! This was only about two weeks after purchasing the glasses. No thanks! No more shopping there. Another shop put the frames in hot salt and bent the nose piece a bit so now they fit perfectly.

Had made an appointment for 3/29/2022 to get a presciption for some reading glasses. First thing said to me rather rudly was "you have to wear a mask" - I did not have one so guy came up to me a gave me a mask. I guess some people feel safer with a mask...so I complied, but my blood already starting to boil a bit because of the authoritarian manner of the guy. The receptionist was very nice, and after wanting me to fill out some questions on a tablet she handed me, I told her that I could not read the small print on the tablet and that was why I had come to get a prescription for reading glasses...during this time the female optometrist came out into the reception area from her office, but was unable to give a simple acknowledgement of my presense. Then the receptionist took me to a small exam room and asked me to put my chin on a cradle so she could measure my eye focal and pressure - so I put my chin in the cradle as I presume several other people wearing masks that day did also - No sign of disposable papers for hygiene on the forehead or chin rests, or frame selection - insanity, not science- . After that the receptionist told me that my eyes had to be dialated or, for a mere $40 extra, I could skip that and instead use another giant machine to photograph the inside of my eyes. mmm, I just want a prescription for some reading glasses, please, similar to the prescription for some "computer" glasses I bought here last year; my eyes are routinely examined by my ophthalmologist as part of my cataract surgery last year with follow-up there this year. All this I weighed together with that fact that my insurance, I was told, would cover $200 total (- frames- lenses- exam) and remebering that I could find no frames under $159, and the one I liked was labeled as $350, and that I would likely ending up costing me, in addition to the insurance coverage, at least $200 out of pocket, I figured that I don't really need this hassle and excused myself from that establishment.

I had good care with dr Setlock a couple times going in for third round . Last time they couldn't find me in system but did eventually . Knowledgeable dr and easy to get appointments. I get 20$ exams through my insurance and happy not to be pressured to buy frames or glasses I don't need ? But if you do need or want frames / glasses many choices. NE corner of swan sunrise in mall

The optometrist was outstanding. Thorough and full of helpful information. Appreciated the mask requirements with Covid. Office is clean and efficient. Staff was friendly and attentive. Only complaint is that the eyeglass sales person uses deceptive practices as is noted by another reviewer. Without explaining all possible options and asking you what you would like, numerous "extras" are added to your order. I did not realize this until I had already paid. Clearly the staff is paid by commission. Prepare to pay around $300 for cheap frames and basic single vision lenses ...and that is after insurance. Next time I will get the RX from the wonderful optometrist and go to Costco.

Awful. I was surprised by how rude the receptionist was as I tried to make my first appt. Wasn't able to because she had a big issue with the fact that I was at work and couldn't stay on hold long. She said in a big frustrated sigh.. "Oh Lord!" ... never in a million years would I invest my healthcare in such an unprofessional place.

Just moved into town and needed to order my lenses. When I walked in everyone was too busy to say anything except for one guy. The only person who wanted to help or had any sense of hospitality was Joanne.I'm not exactly sure what this lady's name was but boy was she rude. She was too busy having conversations with everyone and making side commentaries to actually help me. Her name started with "M". I'm new into town and am not sure exactly how things work over here so I showed her all my paperwork and she made a joke saying she doesn't need anything because I looked like a 10 year patient.in the middle of "helping me", she took a phone call and it seemed like she was talking about ordering food while I was sitting there. Joanne was so sweet and kind she took the time to help me and find out if I was covered by the insurance I had. I was covered but, it seemed like "M" was trying to convince me not to come here because she assumed I was out of network and it was going to be more expensive for me. What the hell? Excuse you lady? After explaining to "M" the paperwork she grabbed was not my newest prescription she then told me I was wrong and that it was since it was good until 2020. I told her at least three times that it was not the one I needed and I had the newest one. Anything I tried to tell her she literally didn't listen to me and had some arrogant personality. Joanne even tried to help and explain it to her. When Joanne said and repeated was I said "M" talked down to her. She was trying to tell her smugly that she knew what she was doing and asked Joanne to stay out of it. Wow, maybe "M" needs to learn some kindness and professionalism from Joanne. After this, "M" sat down with me and asked if my prescription was right. I told her no, again. She tried to make up some other excuse so she could go get up and talk to her Co-worker I presume. So I told her I'll look for another place. Then "M" slammed the papers she copied and printed for me in front of me, walked away in a huff, and told me to have a nice day. Again, what the hell? Joanne mouthed "I'm sorry" to me as I stood up and collected my stuff. The lady who walked in there even seemed uncomfortable as "M" tried to help her.Thank you "M" for showing me this isn't the place to go. Professionalism doesn't apparently exist at this place. Which sucks because I was right down the street. Even though I'm new in town, I'm sure other places aren't like this. I definitely will look for another place, even if I have to drive further.

I went here about about a year ago. So I wasn't sure what to think of this place I was new to Tucson. So it was ok, but my prescription wasn't right I ended up using my daughters glasses which was perfect for me. My daughters frames broke and that was handled nicely. My complaint would be about the sales guy. He really didn't want to tell me about the discounted glasses which were at about the price my insurance would cover $150. He was a little pushy. Then after trying to convince me of getting a bunch of stuff for our glasses it's was going to end up being hundreds extra. All I asked for was that it have UV protection. He was trying to lie to me about my benefits, or withhold info from me thinking I would buy a bunch of I didn't need. So I looked up my own benefits and told him what I wanted. He seemed upset. Wte .Then afterwards I tried to get the prescription for my glasses and my daughters just in case we needed to buy an extra pair online or sunglasses or whatever. He refused to give us the axis number for our eyes. My eye doctor back home would give these to me no problem so I was confused. Then he said he would give them to us but we would have to pay a fee. The whole time making it very uncomfortable. I ended up just looking and writing it down for mine and taking a picture while he wasn't looking haha. I have never heard of that before so it just seemed like he was being petty cuz I didn't want poly lenses for me and my daughter and a bunch of other . Well of course I never went back. This year daughter went to the Alvernon optical on tanque verde and they literally print it out for u and put it on ur new glasses when you pick them up. Which confirmed for me that I was NEVER going back to this location. I tried a new eye place for myself, and I'm so glad I did because were just never going back to Alvernon optical.

Bleak - closest place to home that deals with my insurance. Arrived on time for an appt an stood there while a receptionist engaged in a 10 minute circuitous conversation with a client about the whereabouts of her appt in the computer system. Clearly it was an Alvernon input error but it was a very painful experience. Then I entered the room with the testing equipment. No sign of disposable papers for hygiene on the forehead or chin rests. Furthermore the person running the machine was unable to say what a particular machine did. "I don't know ... measures the eyes, I guess?"Then it's time to move to the optometrist's office. We meet in the hallway and she fails to introduce herself or even greet me, just starts into her spiel about the process. But the crowning blow was sitting at the frame table. I put my glasses in the counter and said how nice it was to get frames adjusted and cleaned at the optician. The woman looked at me, got a spray bottle and some sort of wipe and said, "Here you go."End of story. Back to the drawing board for next year's visit.

In the past I always had a good experience with Alvernon Optical and was impressed with the precautions they took during the COVID pandemic. I was disappointed on my recent visit to see that though much of the staff was masked, the doctor I'd be in close contact with was not. Their failure to take proper precautions made me trust their judgement as health professionals and feel as though my health, and the health of their most vulnerable patients, was not being respected.

I visited Alvernon Optical on Sunrise see if they could fix my wife's glasses that got bent in a fall and could not have had better treatment than I received. I was greeted promptly, their facility was immaculate and the people were friendly. A gentleman took the glasses to the back and 5 minutes later he brought them out as good as new. They would not accept payment for the service and I look forward to the next time I need glasses so that I can return and be a paying customer. Thanks Alvernon Optical for a great experience!
