Tsuruhashi Japanese BBQ

Decided to come here on a whim for a celebration per my friend's recommendation and we were luckily able to get a reservation for a party of four at 7:30pm on a Sunday night. The interior decor was simple and I liked the booth style seating.We ordered a variety of meats including the gold kobe beef kalbi, premium skirt steak, premium beef tongue, prime miso beef tongue, prime cap ribeye, and salted pork belly. We also got the Tsuruhashi salad, assorted kimchi plate, the egg & seaweed soup, and hot stone bibimbap.Every person gets two main dipping sauces for the meats but you can also request the lemon juice and sesame oil to dip with as well. Everything that we tried was absolutely spectacular - you can really tell how amazing their quality of meat is and the sides are just as delicious. My favorites of the night were the gold kobe beef kalbi, and the miso beef tongue. The gold kobe is one of the more expensive cuts but oh my goodness it was heavenly - the meat is so tender and fatty and just melts in your mouth. The miso beef tongue was my second favorite - the flavor of miso with the lemon dipping sauce was a wonderful combo. My friend even said he got chills when he took that bite so I think that may have been his favorite! On top of the amazing food, the service from each waitstaff member was excellent. Usually restaurants have one waiter for the table but this was a whole team effort. They were constantly coming and checking on us and taking away any empty dishes so the table was never cluttered, refilling our drinks when they were starting to get low, and making sure we always had everything we needed. I highly recommend this place because of its incredible food and amazing service. This will be one of my bookmarked places to eat at for when I'm back in the area!

Love me some good bbq, and Japanese-style too! The onion tongue is to die for! This is apparently my husband's go-to request for his celebratory birthday dinner, and I can see why! It's delicious, it's quality! The bump down to 4 stars instead of 5, is purely due to pricing. This place ain't cheap! So by default, it's not a frequent visit for me... though I wish! I would advise skipping this place if you have a big appetite, as you may leave still feeling hungry.Pro tip: on weekdays, they have the family platter of assorted meats, which is a pretty good deal, relatively speaking. Parking can be a challenge, as they're located in a popular plaza of some of our favorite food places (Bistro Kaz, Yakitori, Harmony 2B1). But such is the struggles of eating out in Convoy.

Really high quality meat! We mainly came for the assorted organ platter which did NOT disappoint. We opted for the salted flavor which was well seasoned! We also got their prime short rib which was the PERFECT level of marbling! They were out of their premium beef tongue but their fresh beef tongue was still very tender! Their service was very quick and prompt. Ambiance was quiet and not rowdy when we went, a little late in the evening around 9pm. Excited to come back to try other cuts and the premium beef tongue

Service was bad!! Food is ok, I like the Fountain Valley location better, I would not recommend the one in San Diego

If you're looking to get your moneys worth and think this is all you can eat. Don't bother coming here. If you want to come out satisfied except to pay $300+We ordered:- 1 plate of beef tongue (9 slices)- 1 combo meat plate (7 pieces of meat)- 1 plate of vegetables- 1 beer to share- 2 bowls of riceWe paid $100....ended up getting fast food after. Everything here you have to pay for, even the rice. Nothing is provided except two sauces.I understand that the meat quality is "higher" but in my opinion the small pieces of meat and service did not make it seem worth it. To me it just doesn't make sense to pay this much for the mediocre experience. At least when you go to sushi omakase and spend $100+ dollars you can get an Japanese experience. Here the server just comes and dumps the plates of food and looks like every other bbq restaurant. Even Gyu-Kaku's service is better, has a more Japanese ambiance and they have a better value.

Pretty neat spot! The service was topnotch, super friendly and so respectful. It's a great spot to have a date and be able go converse with one another without music blasting. Keep in mind that prices can be pretty high but the quality of the meat is really good. This is Japanese Bbq so don't expect the side dishes to taste like Korean Banchan. They looked alike but the taste is definitely not the same. Regardless, the hubs and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back again in the future.

Amazing quality food and great for special occasions or when you really wanna splurge. Very pricey but you're paying for quality so fair game to me.Food: Discovered onion tongue here and I'll never be the same. As an extreme onion-lover and also beef tongue lover, this was crazy. Also if you are a party of 3-5, the Family Set is amazing value however there's only 10 available per day and only offered Monday- Thursday.Service: Multiple workers were helping every table so we were able to order things quickly whenever we wanted more. Great and attentive service.Ambiance: A bunch of booths with a decent amount of privacy from each one. Seems good for small to medium groups but not so much for large groups more than 6.Water: It took them a bit to refill water at first but after that it got better. Water quality was fine.

Enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve date night here! My husband used the Japanese menu. We appreciated the Japanese-speaking staff. The atmosphere was cozy but bustling. The food we ordered was simple and delicious! The meat cuts were beautiful. Easy to grill. The two sauces provided were flavorful too. I shouldn't have ordered plain rice...I was eyeing the kimchi fried rice our neighbors got...it looked and smelled amazing. Will get that next time. Go hungry!!

Ultimate high quality. Better bbimbap than most Korean joints, chill vibe, draft beer, lovely staff. Cant go wrong here.

Food was amazing! Got a bunch of diff plates including the Wagyu sampler and it melted in your mouth. The kimchi sampler and veggies was also a good side along with all the meats. Service was great and always there to change out grill and clear out plates. Would def recommend! A little on pricier side but we'll worth it.
