Tougo Coffee

This was a weird one. I was going to roll with whatever the "barista's choice" was - and apparently its not one thing, but whatever he is feeling in the moment. He asked me to taste it before I paid for it - 'twas good but I wasn't sure what it was and he wouldn't tell me. Like, not now, not ever. I'm not happy to consume something when I don't know what it is, so no coffee for me. I found it odd and off-putting. I met friends there, and as we left I also remarked that I dislike coffee shops with no prices listed (there are no prices listed here....) and someone remarked that he'd observed different people charged different amounts for the same drinks. There is an "out of order" sign up for their bathrooms - and since I needed the bathroom I checked for myself. Both bathrooms were in working order, but I got locked inside. Another weird thing that should probably get fixed for safety reasons. All told I wouldn't visit this place again.

The owner had a run of bad lick and we wanted to support him with a visit so a friend and I paid a visit yesterday took the street car up from 5th and Jackson and walked back to our office. It's been two years since I've visited Tougo. I went with the Barista Special this visit, a surprise till your served. which was a Honey Lavender Latte yesterday. I'm not usually i to lavender flavored stuff but this was so well balanced I couldn't tell there was lavender in it. Not sure if they use A2 milk because I'm lactose intolerant and the milk didn't bother me at all that day. Just as charming and welcoming as my last visit. I usually snap fairly quick photos for Instagram my friend is a little more intentional with her shots and videos and the owner Brian was very easy going. She asked for her coffee in a regular cup for a better shot to post. Good call! Brian the owner is also an excellent photographer. Now that we know it's not to nard to get up there we'll have to make more visits. I can tell how much this shop means to the community by the response people had to a recent fundraiser to help him out with the run of bad luck.

I visited recently with my two kids. The barista was super friendly, welcoming and engaging. He made the "special" and it just so happened to be exactly what I'd want: an oat milk lavender honey latte. It was delicious!! We got a few pastries too, which were all good. You can tell there were some regulars who came in, knowing each other by name. The atmosphere is nice, open and has good natural light. The location is great to visit the Yesler Terrace Park playground across the street too. Parking is busy but there are some short term spots right in front of the coffee shop.

Having the Signature coffee at Tougo during the middle of my work. It's awesome. Creamy oatmilk, little bit of spice and espresso. The barista/ owner was so friendly and nice. He made the drink in front of the customer and made sure that you love it. Another hidden gem!

I AM A FANOk so as a coffee enthusiast in Seattle, I've been to multiple coffee shops and now I think i've found my spot. This place is GREAT! I live in the apartments adjacent to the coffee shop and I have been seeing it for a while but the hours are limited (8a-2p Wed-Sun only) so i've never had the pleasure of stopping in. On the advice of a co-worker I decided to make it happen yesterday and MAN was I blown away. The owner is a super chill brewista that should really be called a Coffee-Ologist became the man radiates his knowledge of the bean. My favorite thing is there is a menu option for a "barista special" I asked him what it was and he replied "I dont know yet" which gave me a hella intriguing vibe. I told him I want something iced and was like " I got you". I was on board!While he made my drink we exchanged conversation and he was super easy to talk to and hella friendly, not to mention the end result was my drink and it was PHENOMENAL! You WIN sir! Will definitely be returning!

I recommend Tougo! If you're a coffee lover, go grab yourself a coffee and relax while enjoying it.

I wanted to try Tougo for a long time and happened to be in the area just a couple minutes before their closing time so decided to give it a shot. I ordered the Cardamom Vanilla latte and it was rich in flavor. Doug made it to perfection- not too sweet and full of Cardamom flavor. I also got one of their coffee beans bag. My only gripe is parking in the area but that's not on Tougo. They close at 3 pm which is something to be noted. Can't wait to try their bakery items in the future.

A few things to state with my experience at this coffee shop. With the publicity around the owner being a talented artist and long time member of the community, the expectation would have been that this review would have started with 5 stars. But oh, dear readers, the storm was brewing behind those espresso machines. My experience with the owner was less than subpar. His condescension dripped like over-extracted espresso, staining the otherwise pleasant ambiance. I'm hoping Berhanu's superiority complex on the day of my visit was only due to a bad case of the blues.

Really excellent coffee. Owner makes delicious special drinks, and they have a great selection of standard espresso and pour over coffee drinks, tea and chia, as well as some tasty munchies. Great atmosphere, friendly and comfortable. One of my favorite coffee shops in Seattle.
