Mitsuwa recently had a face lift and the food court improved its game too! Yakitori is such an iconic staple of Japanese cuisine and it is now available in Mitsuwa too. There's a selection of yakitori, from beef to pork to corn available, as well as takoyaki and some rice dishes. We tried the takoyaki today but the taste was a let down. The yakitori was left on the counter for some time and was therefore not crispy on the outside though warm on the inside. Flavor wise it wad a miss too. It was too salty and lacks the traditional yakitori flavor from the batter and tako.A bit disappointed but I'll give their yakitori a sour next time. Hope they improve their food flavors as yakitori deserves its spotlight here.

I've only tried their takoyaki during their soft opening. The takoyaki was soft, deflated and soggy. The inside seems undercooked. It wasn't the same takoyaki that I had in Tokyo where it's supposed to be crispy outside and fully cooked inside. I understand that they're still new and there's more room to improve. Hopefully they'll get better so I can change my review.

I've seen this place under construction at Mitsuwa for a while and it finally opened today so I came in to check it out. The skewers are choose your own-I got the tsukune, the regular chicken(?) ones with onion and sauce, and the bacon with quail eggs. I also got a pack of takoyaki. Aside from the fact that I think there was a bit too much sauce on the tsukune, everything tasted really good (especially since most of what I chose were freshly made). A bit of the negative was that most of the skewer trays were empty when I got there, understandably since their opening was today and there were quite a bit of people. So it took a while for the chefs to replenish the plates. But it just added on to how fresh and hot the skewers were when they did come out!

So, this was my first time to have takoyaki (or, as Charles from "Brooklyn 99" describes them, "octopus donuts"), though the friend I went with loves them and had already been here a couple times. I knew the things not to do: don't just shove it in your mouth so you scald yourself with the searing hot filling (my friend helpfully noted that if the bonito flakes on top are still waving, it's still best to wait!) They did come out hot and fresh, and it's an odd amalgam of umami flavors: the brininess of the bonito, snap of green onion, the tang of the takoyaki sauce and the savory chew of the octopus itself (my friend felt like there should have been more), offset by the creamy sweetness of Japanese mayo. We ate one order and my friend got a second! This place also does yakitori (grilled stuff on skewers), so we also tried a couple things, the most interesting being the quail eggs wrapped in bacon. I'm not a big egg fan, but offset with the bacon the taste and texture made this something memorable. Overall, I would try out other yakitori here and maybe give the takoyaki another shot as well.

My fiance and I have been wanting to try this place after finding out that they will serve yakitori. We came to Mitsuwa on Saturday morning at 10:30, and noticed that their menu had a lot of items marked as 'not available.' But we were pretty happy to see that thigh and pork belly skewers were available in two options of 'salt' and '[soy] glaze.' I chose the salt thigh and salt pork belly skewers and was delighted by the taste! We also shared the takoyaki, which was rather subpar because they were too mushy for me to enjoy after paying over $6 the dish. Overall, I think I would wait for the restaurant to become more established and try other items once they are available. I will update my review to reflect my next visit.

Edit: Star deducted for having a credit card minimum, thought I'd be able to get snacks here on a regular basis but not if I have to spend a certain amount to eat here.

For the Mitsuwa food court, I think this place is on point. Out of the five places, it might be #1 or #2. Very tasty with plenty of chicken karaage. Nice side options too. Now if they just had beer...

Temperature, temperature, temperature!Total failure in this crucial aspect. The grilled chicken is room temperature to barely warm. Even the rice is just warm. The runny yolk egg is refrigerator cold! Will never go back. Should have gone for the usual ramen place.

The Takoyaki was extremely soggy and deflated. It tasted like a mushy ball. Takoyaki is suppose to be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The type of mixture this use in Takoyaki was very off putting. It reminded me of pancake mix. Be very careful eating Takoyaki because it's a ball of fire when it's straight out the pan. It will burn your tongue if you do not wait for it to cool down.
