Whoa - first experience in a Southie bar...it was...revealing.First, I found it entertaining to see a big ass box of goldfish on one patron's table. Apparently TE's didn't have food for a while so they still let folks bring food, or better yet, order delivery to the bar. Amazing.Second, lottery tickets. Nothing like crushing beers and scratching furiously to see if you won more beers.Finally, the crowd - lots of youngsters who tend to keep to themselves. I was a bit nervous after reading about the February decor in 2011, I was wondering what I would face, but it turned out to be a cool crowd there for the cheap beer and low-key atmosphere.

Class. Any place that has ice in the urinals is class. Check the pics.Good, large bar... easy to get into on the weekends. They have pool tables and plenty of TVs. Pretty happening on a Saturday night.

Came here at the end of the bar crawl. Its not that there is anything wrong with it its just that there isn't anything right with it. Pool tables, mostly empty bar at midnight on a friday. Its a fine bar if you are looking for something low key and a bit on the divey side.

Tom's just got a brand new outside, how ya doin?They put up a new stone wall out front and some new lettering above the door. Well, last time I checked...the locals in South Boston are mostly 20-35 years old and love crushing beers. That is pretty much what you get when you go to Tom's.The bar is huge, way more room than you would think. 2 pool tables, darts, and a juke box that they turn up wicked loud.People need to step up and stop going to the beer garden down the street where it is twice as expensive and less fun.They don't accept credit cards....but usually I bring $35 and I can drink 15 beers and still leave a good tip. Thats whats up.

The drinks were ok. But the owner of the bar was beyond rude. I saw another comment about racism and cannot stress this issue enough. I bout a few beers with my friend, payed for music, and played pool. Next thing I know, the "owner" is kicking us out for no apparent reason. Terrible spot, wouldn't recommend.

Good staff, good music, cold beer, pool and darts. Can't ask for much more. Cash only has an ATM inside

Their bartenders are friendly, quick, and just freakin phenomenal. They have a large variety of beers and can make any mixed drink you want.

Never experienced a ruder bouncer in my life and coming from south Florida that's saying something... starting our night and called my dad (family vacation) to come meet us and while trying to read the sign to tell him the bar the bouncer said he couldn't let us in cause we didn't know the name while letting in kids who were audibly asking if their fake ID will work to get in. Beyond unprofessional and clearly doesn't care about business or customers. If you're visiting, stay clear cause they will rudely not let you in and insult you to nearly the point of crying.

Stopped in to have a few beers & watch the Pats season opener on Sunday. To my surprise the kitchen was open. The menu was small but it had all the dive bar staples (burgers, wings, nachos ext;). The food was not only very reasonably priced but was tremendous. It really was. I ordered buffy wings and a cheeseburger. The wingers were cooked perfectly, well done, nice and crispy (not fatty) with the perfect amount of kick to them. They were the best wings I've had in a real ong time. The cheeseburger I had was also damn good.. From my understanding the kitchen at Tom English's has been closed for a few months. So it was a pleasant surprise to come in and find it back open. What was even better was how good the food was.. Great food, solid service, reasonable prices. What more could you ask for. 5 STARS

Don't go go here unless you're completely sober. They assume everyone is trouble. The bouncer is nice and cool, but the manager is a real hardo. He lets very few people in and is extremely rude and disrespectful. They're missing out on a ton of business! It's nothing special inside anyway though...not worth it at all.
