As with a lot of reviewers here, I also used to frequent the 19th/Camelback location back in the early 80's. It was a staple in our household with an Okinawan mother who would take us there as kids. She loved it, we loved it. I also loved the surfboard tables. I make a point to stop here whenever I'm on this side of town. Sometimes I will make the 50 mile drive round trip when I feel the need for katsudon. The prices are still very reasonable and the staff are super friendly. Please don't ever leave!

Nostalgia, nostalgia, nostalgia! Back in the day, 30 years ago I used to frequent Tokyo Express 3-4 times a week. I would go to the 19th Ave and Camelback location which disappeared a long time ago. The staff at that location was like my family. They would start my order as they saw me walk in. I drive by this location a lot and always tell myself I need to stop in! I am glad I did today!!!I am not sure what the science behind how food tastes imprint onto your brains. Sometimes I think what certain dishes taste like at a specific place does not always imprint correctly and do not taste the way my brain locked it in. In today's case, the food served to me matched exactly what my brain said it should have! The thing that has hooked me from my first taste at Tokyo Express is their ginger dressing! It makes plain iceberg lettuce pop 1000%! I am so happy that it is the same. If I ever find myself incarcerated and a last meal is available. I am sure it will be a Tokyo Express side salad. It has to be the last thought in my brain when I check out of this life! The Spicy Beef bowl is a solid choice. I enjoy the tender beef pieces along with perfectly sautéd onions. As far as the side salad goes! The above paragraph shows how fond I am of it. Your best bet is probably going in during the day. At night the dining is full of guest of the neighboring Cherry Blossom Cafe. They both share Tokyo Express' dining room and serves as Cherry Blossom's overflow seating.

I've been eating here since I was probably five years old. Even if I wasn't totally nostalgic about this great place, I would absolutely love the food. I've never had chicken teriyaki, so good. The chicken is perfectly cooked. The rice has a unique and delicious texture. The teriyaki sauce is sweet, but not too sweet. and that's just one of the delicious wonderful foods available here

Fast, speedy service, to be expected from an express casual type of eatery. Prices are on par with comparable places in the area that serve the same type of food (Y*shi's) except it lacks the convenience of a drive-thru window. I ordered the katsu don bowl which by itself came out to be 7$ and some change. Placed the order over the phone (do NOT use the online ordering service as it not only adds 3 dollars to the price of the entrée items but an additional online service fee). This was my first time ordering from this place for a quick and easy lunch. Overall, I found the seasoning of the katsu to be overly salty, lacking any other type of umami flavor. The white rice served with it was drowned in sauce which contributed to the overall salt-heavy taste of the bowl. Would most likely not be enticed enough to go back.

We used to go to the Thomas road location in the 80s and 90s and then lost touch with them when they left Scottsdale road. We reconnected over 25 years later and loved it. The bento boxes are great! Added a beverage and salad. The salad and dressing brought back great memories along with the teriyaki chicken. The prices are still outstanding! This is a regular place for anyone in the area...

It's a staple for work lunches, bento boxes are good and I can't complain! It isn't like a nice place, but it gets the job done. Counter service .. I think? Pretty good attitudes generally

I use to come to this place in the 80's! I think the food was better in the 80's. The service was great and ambiance was the same. I moved away 26 years ago so when I'm in town I try to swing by.

Tokyo Express is amazing. The Sukiyaki beef bowl is hands down one of my favorite dishes of all time. I am thrilled they brought back the black sesame seeds and sea salt to add to the top, as this makes it perfect! Cannot recommend this place highly enough!!!!
