I came to Tocaya for the first time based on a recommendation from a friend. There wasn't much of a crowd sitting but it seemed to be popping for individuals ordering to go. Inside and outside is very cute and aesthetically pleasing. The outside patio seems like it would be the perfect place to gather for some drinks - from the bartender! If it is your first time in, do not forget to check in on yelp for a little surprise. Then create an account with Tocaya for a few bucks off your menu item! My $14 GRILLED PINEAPPLE AL PASTOR bowl was knocked down to $11. This is a go up to the counter and order or sit at the table and scan the QR code to place your order. I was having a difficult time getting the ordering to go through because I clicked out of the website to go to yelp to look at pictures of their bowls. So make sure you do your food research first so you can order and not get stuck like me. The bowl that I ordered was a lot smaller in portions compared to the other bowls at the table (probably because my base was rice and beans rather than the salad). But the flavor was really good. I would definitely visit and order this again.

Looking for a quick healthy lunch in Scottsdale. Here in town visiting family and love trying local restaurants. Upscale order first type of place with nice decor. Service was quick and pleasant. So happy to find organic, gf and vegan place that prepares yummy food. Hubby ordered three tacos ( they were small but mighty delish) fish, birria and asada. I ordered three tacos, papas, tinga and chicken Diablo. We also shared chips with salsa and queso. Everything was delish and satisfying! Will have to try their location in DelMar since that is the closest to our home!

I'll admit, I am *not* a fan of restaurants where you order at the counter and then take a little number to the table and wait for it to be brought to you. If the menu is the least bit complicated then it makes ordering like this difficult, especially for first time visitors. Fortunately the gal at the counter was helpful and knew her menu. That aside, the food was REALLY good. I ordered the Street Corn En Fuego, served as the menu suggested except for sauce on the side. They accidentally put 'some' sauce on the dish before they noticed that it was to come on the side. Boy, am I glad I didn't get it all on the dish. That little bit I got was more than plenty. I do think I would have enjoyed it more without the sauce at all (sure, I should have probably chosen something else, but I was overwhelmed at the menu and hated that someone may be in line behind me).The hubs ordered a taco combo (I missed the 'what' because I was trying to concentrate on the menu). The combo comes with chips and guac, they allowed him to get both tortilla chips and plantain chips. The chips and guac was the best part of the meal. SERIOUSLY that was amazing. The plantain chips were fried absolutely perfectly and the tortilla chips had just the right amount of sale on them. I'd go back just for that alone. If I were to grade this on food alone, I'd easily give it 4 stars. I downgraded to 3 because:1. The counter order style2. They forgot to notice that I wanted the sauce on the side3. Tables outside still had dishes, glasses, and trash on them (and the same tables had the same trash when we left) - and, yes, there were birds dining on the dishes(they really weren't that busy, we arrived at the end of their lunch rush and one of, I think, two tables when we left)Not included in this visit's score, but I want to mention because it's the only reason we went - last time my husband met a coworker here and they messed up one of the orders (a vegetarian ordered a veg meal and it came with fish - and he took a bite out of it; needless to say, it ruined his entire meal, even after it was replaced w the correct order). They received gift cards to come back and try the place again, which is why we were there yesterday. They've got a good menu of food for everyone in your party - including gluten or dairy free and vegetarian. If they can get their orders straight, and clean up after patrons, I'd be willing to overlook the counter style of ordering. The food really WAS good!

Tocaya is one of my favorite food spots. Their food is always great (sometimes the lettuce in the salad can be wet but that's fine). The foods light so it doesn't make me feel gross for over eating. I love the restaurant and I love their little patio area. The one complaint I have is that their customer service lacks, sometimes you'll walk in and there's never anyone at the counter or they're just not happy to be at work which is a shame. For that reason I've started ordering online...

This is one of my must visit place during every Phoenix visit!I love their Fajita Del Ray bowl along with adobo tofu as protein. It's a perfect spicy mixture of all the components - protein, carbs, veggies, etc. Best is you make this spicer if you would like to - so customizable according to your mood.I liked all their vegetarian tacos too, especially the Baja Tacos. The ingredients over here are super fresh. This time I tried Plantain Chips - they were amazing with pomegranate guacamole. I like their ambience as well - such modern yet comfortable!Don't forget to enjoy their Taco Tuesday - $2 for every taco, such an amazing deal.I really wish they expand in east coast as well so that I don't have to wait for my Phoenix visit!

Tons of gluten free and dairy free options here! I love how their menu is set up. You choose between a salad, bowl, taco, burrito, or quesadilla then add your choice of protein or vegan protein and type of cheese. It's very customizable. I ordered the guiltless quesadilla which comes with a gluten free tortilla. The texture of the tortilla is the best gluten free one I've had! I don't think I've been able to order a quesadilla in any restaurant since I've been gluten free so it was such a treat. And it was delicious! Do not pass on the churro waffle bites. They are both gluten and dairy free. The texture is amazing! I've never had a real churro, but my husband has had plenty and said these are better than the real thing. They taste fresh and like they were just made. The service here was very friendly and I loved the modern decor. The restaurant is clean and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I am happy to have discovered this restaurant and will definitely be back!

Updating my review. The weather is lovely today so we decided to get tocaya and sit outside however we were so disappointed by how dirty and unkept the outdoor patio was. They don't clean the tables whatsoever. As you can see from the pics birds were on the table and eating the leftovers. At some point they were about 6-7 birds in one table. Couches were dirty. Floor was dirty. Complete mess. Not a place one wants to dine. Service is always slow. Our food took long and no one came to clean the tables in all the time we were outside waiting, I think we waited at least 30 mins for a burrito and a salad. Eventually we decided not to stay because of how dirty the place was and we asked for our food to go. We got home only to realize they had given us a quesadilla instead of a burrito. The quesadilla had almost no chicken. If I could give 0 stars I would. Not coming back.

Food was ok but honestly I couldn't enjoy or taste anything over the insane amount of air freshener that was being sprayed in the restaurant on repeat! Like eyes burning headache, grossed out had to leave and not finish meal, for a "healthier" restaurant they really don't under health.

This is a cute and healthy option for Mexican food that is walkable from the Westin Kierland resort. You order at the counter, take a number, and the food is brought to you. There was a good selection of drinks that you can purchase by the bottle or agua fresca or margaritas at the counter. I ordered the Baja and carne asada taco combination with a side of guac and an agua fresca. The drink came out in a cute mason jar and was fresh without being too sweet. Next up was the guacamole. It came with a side of lightly salted plantain chips for dipping. However, I found a piece of long blond hair and the avocado sticker in the guac. Not a great impression. The tacos were good - the tortillas were fluffy and the fish and carna asada were cooked well. Not sure if I would return, I would definitely inspect my guac very closely if I do end up returning.
