If you live or have lived in Chicago, you know anout the sheer amount of Mexican restaurants located in every neighborhood, major street, and popular block you can think of. The options are literally endless, and going through the list of them can be overwhelming, but it's most likely agreed that everybody has a personal favorite Mexican spot to go to for whatever reason. These type of restaurant can go beyond just the typical sit down casual, taco torta burrito quick bite late night dive-- Mexican restaurants can be chic, they can be upscale, they can be non-traditional (unfortunately); they can be varied. Tiztal Café is one of those places where, while its roots are Mexican, it's also a purely familial breakfast dine-in stop, filled with some of the most delectable dishes anyone can find on the north side.Having been a couple times already, I'm becoming well acquainted with their many omelet dishes. Their Meat Lovers omelet was absolutely stacked, and might have been the largest type of egg dish I've ever seen at any restaurant. I also love their Greek/gyro omelets they have on their menu as well! Real filling and savory, perfect for a low to no carb breakfast! Tiztal is also known for their freshly made juices that are blended in-house. This is actually part of the restaurant's roots, as they started out as a juice shop in the Logan Square 'Megamall' before its untimely demise. 16 years later it's amazing to see Tiztal thriving as a popular Uptown establishment. Be warned that, on weekends, this place gets crowded pretty quick. There's limited seating indoors, but there is a patio out back. Personally it is worth the wait for high quality meals!

We tried Tiztal Cafe this afternoon; it was a good experience, especially the food, atmosphere, and waitstaff. I ordered the Corned Beef Hash & with two over-easy eggs, a slice of rye toast (only one slice}, a good-sized glass of orange, and a fruit cup. A grease collection was under the potatoes and corned beef (photos enclosed}. My friend ordered a vegetarian omelet with zucchini and lots of gooey cheese. She liked it a lot, but it had grease under the omelet, too, as much as mine. She ordered OJ and a side of bacon that was nice and crispy. If I did go back, I would mention going easy on the fries.

I loved it here. Seriously! The place, the service, the drinks, the food? ALL of it was exceptional. The husband had a taste for chilaquiles so we yelped and we found ourselves here. So glad we stomped on this place because we were happy. We sat in the back patio around 10 AM and by 11 it was packed. The service was top notch. My coffee was always topped and warm. As a sleep deprived parent, what more can I ask for? Just kidding. I would have expected the food to be good and Tiztal delivered! The food came out so fast and was so fresh tasting. Our juices came out after for gods sake. Thats how efficient this place is. See the pics and they speak for themselves. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was truly tasty. Whats not pictured is the vampiro fresh juice and the oatmeal banana shake. Both of those were surreal. I can't wait to come back. If you haven't been here, you haven't lived. PS. Sandra was our server. She deserves her own 5 star review

Came here for a late breakfast after reading great things about their chilaquiles. We were sat pretty quickly on a Sunday morning at 11. We both got coffee, then I got a strawberry, peach, pineapple smoothie w apple juice base. I wish I could have this smoothie daily, it was so good!! They told us that they don't use any water or sugar and squeeze all the fruits freshly there. Husband got the salsa verde omelet and added steak, he enjoyed it. I got the chilaquiles w eggs over easy and it was FIRE. Even husband said it was the best chilaquiles he's ever tried. Service was excellent, we will most def be back!!

Tiztal Cafe is the only place I can go for Chilaquiles. I have been coming to Tiztal Cafe for the last 6 going on 7 years and they have remained consistent. I am so happy in this day and age with things becoming more expensive and it becoming easier to cut but on food quality to save money it does not seem as though Tiztal Cafe is taking that route.I love that I still see some of the staff that I saw when I first visited back in 2016. Tiztal Cafe gives you the feeling of a family restaurant even though they get really busy. The staff is always wonderful! No matter how busy the restaurant gets the wait staff is always smiling and patient with everyone. I truly cannot order an entree outside of the Chilaquiles because they make the best on the Northside. I have tried other Chilaquiles around the Northside and always find myself comparing them go Tiztal Cafe that I no longer try. I am happy that Tiztal Cafe still gives you large portions of food. I easily get three meals out of my breakfast. The trick to keep the chips from getting soggy is asking for the salsa on the side. I remember once when they accidentally put salsa on top, the waitress gave me extra chips to take home without me asking. That moment solidified why I keep coming back and telling anyone that will listen about Tiztal Cafe. The amount of food you receive is worth the price. They align with what you would typically see on the Northside. I highly recommend coming to Tiztal Cafe. If you aren't big on crowds, come on a weekday or really early in the morning on the weekend. The line moves fast if there is a crowd. Bonus: they have an outside patio!

We came here on a Saturday around lunch time. We have been here before but this is the first review. From the outside the restaurant looks like nothing and once inside, it a small cafe with Mexican decor. During the summer they open the patio. Despite being crowded when we arrived they found us a seat immediately. The menu has breakfast on one side and lunch on the other. There are some vegetarian options. I think they close at 3PM. They brought us some lemon water in a bottle and two glasses of ice. It was very good. I ordered quesadillas with veggies and my partner ordered a burger. Both items were served with fried potatoes. They brought us some samples of a shake they serve. It was nice but decided that was too much. Our entrees arrived about 10 minutes later and everything looked great My quesadilla was delicious and my partner raved about his burger. The side of potatoes was good too. Both entrees were large. Overall good service, very good food, and casual cafe atmosphere. In our neighborhood, so we will return.

Tiztal Cafe is a cozy venue on Clark that offers daily breakfast and lunch throughout the week. The menu features hearty American fare with a Mexican twist and a lot of red or green Chile and chorizo scattered throughout. You can also get traditional items such as waffles and French toast as well.I chose the chorizo scramble, loaded with four eggs, cheese, cilantro, sour cream, chorizo sausage and a nice homemade sauce. All of this came with four corn tortillas and included American fries as well. The eggs were delicious although slightly overdone, and the potatoes were perfectly executed with a soft interior and crispy skin. Everything came out of the kitchen piping hot.Service was fantastic as well. They didn't have any open seats for a single diner so they cleared space at the bar for me to sit. Great folks, fast service on a busy Sunday morning. This is a keeper. Highly recommended.

One of the few places with the best chilaquiles! Flew my friend from Oklahoma and showed him places with the best breakfast. As a mix culture, it was essential to incorporate our Mexican food "chilaquiles" and American breakfast "French toast" and what a treat!

Best Mexican breakfast I ever had. The chilaquiles with eggs and chorizo were great and the oatmeal shake was unreal. Quick and friendly service too.

Solid breakfast spot with a clear Mexican-American spin. I ordered the chilaquiles based off of a lot of other reviews from here and were satisfied overall. I've had better, and I will say that the chilaquiles were pretty salty. The potatoes and even steak that I ordered on top of it were salty as well. I was good, don't get me wrong, but I may need to ask for them to use less salt next time I go. My friend got a side of pancakes and the Country Breakfast platter. I didn't try his food but overall said it was good. I'll have to come back and try the other things. We were lucky that we only waited about 3-4 minutes for a table to get cleared off on a Sunday around noon, but this place gets very much, so just be prepared!
