We stopped by the Wild Oat Bakery & Cafe on our way to Vancouver for a quick brunch. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to order after waiting for one group to finish ordering. We ordered 4 sandwiches with chips and French Onion soup and a cup of cappuccino. The food was pretty tasty and the ingredients felt fresh. The two guys were working very hard and were friendly and courteous.I have to give 2 stars because we waited for 50 minutes. Had we known that we had to wait close to an hour for sandwiches, we would not have stopped by this place. Not sure if this was a fluke but it took very long. We're still debating whether we should give this place another try. We do like the fact that we are supporting local, vegan, and sustainable food choices. But they really need to work on the turn around time. I mean, these are sandwiches.... We were so frustrated by this experience that we didn't get to take any pictures. One day, if we ever decide to try this place again, perhaps we will do an updated review.

I stopped in for breakfast on a Monday morning. I dined in and ordered the tofu scramble ($5.95 plus tax), and added some grilled veggies to it ($3 plus tax). It took a little time to come out -- 20-25 mins. The scramble is decent, coming with vegan cheese melted on top, and accompanied with potatoes, green peppers, onions and mushrooms, and a side of vegan buttered white toast. Not the highest quality nor one of the more interesting tofu scrambles, but it did the job and was reasonably priced. Old Town down the street does much better scrambles (though quite a bit pricier), so I'd recommend going there for those, but this was a nice spot in the heart of downtown B'ham.

Wow! Such amazing food and service! I was helped by Neri and Jean and my day was instantly brightened! My gluten free pumpkin loaf was greatly enhanced by the beautiful laugh by Neri that came with it. I will definitely be returning to see my new friends. These two deserve all the raises and love this world has to offer!

If their baked goods-- blueberry muffin, raspberry crumble, banana bread and assorted cookies--are any indication of the deliciousness of rest of their menu, I would think that this café would be impossible to get into. Actually, we popped in for a snack and found a few people eating, so a quick selection of the above items to take out was an easy do. Recommendations by our server at the counter were quick, and even quicker packaged. Had hoped to grab a quick vegan burger which all of our friends rave about, but another appointment beckoned. Will have to sample more when we comeback. We love local food that offers something different from the many burger and taco places that dot the city. Wild Oat no doubt will be that special place.

Scrumptious is the word! Can they do anything that is not delicious? I am usually not into a lot of pastries, but if I am around here too much, I can see I will get fat(ter)! Lovely banana bread/cake, beautiful and tender blueberry muffin, exquisite raspberry crumble (or some such thing--slightly wonderfully gooey and flavorful. Frosted jumbo cookie for later (but snuck a lick at the delicious frosting). Our server was informative, helpful and delightful.
