After hearing great things about the restaurant at the Captain Whidbey Inn, we decided to make an outing for Mother's Day Brunch. Our reservation was on Sunday at 11:15am, we left Seattle around 9am and made it just on time. We heard the host turning away parties that didn't have reservations, so we were definitely glad to have made one! The whole inn and restaurant are located on a charming secluded waterfront property, surrounded by beautiful gardens. The restaurant itself was rustic and quaint with a wonderful view of the Puget Sound. Our waiter was very honest about the menu, which I do appreciate. He recommended that we steer clear of the day's special mocktail and of the PNW B&G (unfortunate as I was liking the sound of those two!). I ended up ordering the savory French toast with a side of bacon. The bacon definitely brought the dish together, without it I'm afraid it would have been a bit boring, though still delicious. The others in my group ordered the French Toast Sampler, Shrimp & Grits, & the Sunrise Bowl with smoked salmon. We also had the fresh-squeezed orange juice, which was delightful. Overall, the location and atmosphere of the Captain Whidbey cannot be beat and we all enjoyed the food as well. Next time we'll have to book an overnight stay!

Loved the vibe at the restaurant inside the Captain Whidbey. You really feel like you are inside an old ship - or an old inn where everyone is being communal for the evening versus retreating to their hotel rooms. The host and server were nice. Not a super vegetarian friendly menu, but we got the (delicious) bread, some drinks, a veg special starter and the veggie burger with fries. It all hit the spot with generous portion sizes. We enjoyed soaking in the vibes - that is where this spot truly hits the mark. If you're not staying at the hotel (we were), it's still worth a visit, to check out the property.

Went here for a one-year wedding anniversary. We had a great time on the island checking out some local wineries, restaurants and shops. The staff here was super kind, the restaurant food was really good and so were the drinks. Highly recommend staying in one of the cabins away from the main part. It's nice to have a little bit more peace and quiet versus staying above the bar/restaurant.Definitely check out the coffee spot in the morning. And the other things that are surrounding the property. Really great sites animals nature and picture spots. We didn't get an opportunity to go out in the water because of it too cold and past that point in the season, but I've heard great things about that. Also, don't miss out on the s'mores they have almost every night!

Staff was very friendly and accommodating! They made a special night for me and my partner really special. Our server was very sweet and the staff made sure we were very well taken care of! The fire was lit in the cozy waiting room while other played chess but the window. We also stayed in the original inn! Bed and pillows were very comfy, sound machine provided, if you stay in the original lodge you can hear downstairs very well haha but it very much added to the charm, we loved listening to the restaurant downstairs. I would advise to stay in the cozy Lagoon rooms if you need it absolute quiet but they're prompt on quiet time after 10p. Coffee shop was delicious in the morning and don't forget to hit up the sauna and yoga studio on the property!Thank you staff at The Captain Whidbey for our stay on 10/22/23! We appreciate all of you.

Great food (small plates: salad and Brussels sprouts), great cocktails, fantastic friendly service, and a festive bar at Christmas. After eating, we took our drinks and sat by the fireplace. Looking forward to returning.

(For the restaurant) I wanted to love this place, so much! We stayed at the hotel and were so looking forward to eating here. I had read fabulous things. The location really is beautiful. An old house seated on the bay, the restaurant has views that overlook the water. There is an outdoor patio/bar, but it was closed for a wedding while I was visiting. We had a reservation, which was difficult to make. The server was fine - nothing notable. I ordered the blueberry cocktail as a mocktail - it was so good! Probably the best part of this meal.I then ordered the salmon with couscous. It's the 2nd most expensive item on the menu so I expected it to be really good. However, it was super dry and lacked much flavor. The couscous.... same. Very dry, not much flavor and I couldn't finish them. The carrots were the best part of the plate - eek....Pretty disappointed. I had hoped for more for what's supposed to be the best restaurant on the island. I'd get drinks/snacks here and drive out for dinner next time.

My husband and I ordered the vegan versions and the food was delicious!! Service was warm and outstanding as well. Ambiance is lovely with the views and the charm of the historic lodge. My only complaint is to have one or two more vegan options/versions available.

I wasn't sure what to expect with the mixed reviews on here - but this place was lovely!First off, the grounds are straight up millennial instagrammable up scale glampsite on the water. It is obvious that the owners and staff thought about every detail of what the environment looks like and it was a delight to walk around before and after our reservation. We went for Easter brunch, which isn't a typical experience there (they seem to only serve dinner). There was no menu on the site which made me a little nervous as my partner has a lot of food restrictions, but we went with it. The food was delicious! Kind of a combination of the dinner menu and some classic brunch items. First off we had the basket of cinnamon rolls - I was expecting miniature rolls but nope - four huge rolls with a great icing and soft inside and bit of sweet texture on the top. Then I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked. There was a sun choke/rhubarb/kale hash that was sweet and flavorful. I was a bit confused as they said a gnudi was included - which I thought was some kind of dumpling but maybe an alternative preparation was a hash? It did seem a like some sort of starch other than the tiny bite sun choke would have been nice. I stole a potato off my spouse's plate which worked out well. We had a chocolatey deconstructed Cadbury egg tart for dessert - also delicious. The service was prompt and good - we were seated right away and everyone was friendly.TL;DR: don't let the reviews scare you away! I look forward to going again!

Visiting Whidbey and Coupeville, we decided on this location for dinner because they offered a good kid's menu (in addition to the lovely scenic photos!) And let me tell ya, the kid's menu did not disappoint. Neither did the adult or drink menu. This restaurant is tucked away down a gravel path overlooking the water. Cute, woodsy parking lot. Cornhole as you walk up, which we participated in both before and after dinner! The rustic lobby is beautiful and picture-esque - chess, sailing boat, comfy seating. The host was absolutely gorgeous and charming. Server was friendly and witty. Now listen. My kids are usually great in restaurants, but on this particular day, they had been sitting on a ferry or in a car for hours and hours. They were full of boundless energy. Another lovely server directed me to a wall of games and kids books. Okay, THANKS ANGEL!! She was sent and we were relieved. Food was delicious - we had the burger (two juicy smash patties and delectable toppings, like tomato jam, glazed onions and a crisp aioli) and fish & chips. Fries were seasoned well. And YES, the kid's plates are HUGE, served on a divided plate with fruit and veggies. Why can't every restaurant do this!?!Excellent experience on vacation in Whidbey. Part of the magic of this place...

The Restaurant at Captain Whidbey offers a small, intimate dining experience with a beautiful view of the water. There is bar service and seating available as well. A reservation is recommended even if you're staying at the hotel. We did not make a reservation and decided to sit at the bar. The bartended was very patient as we made our selections for drinks and food. We opted to order a few appetizers and chose the CW Garden Bread, Salish Sea Clam Chowder, the PNW Bounty Board and the Dungeness Crab Mac and Cheese. Every plate was delicious and filling but the Mac and Cheese was my favorite. We ordered quite a few delicious drinks, but were surprised at the end when we ordered one more round of drinks and It increased our bill dramatically. They were Barrel-Aged cocktails and tasty, though for the bill increase I'm not sure I would've ordered them again.TL;DR- Make a reservation- Enjoy appetizers before dinner- Don't look at the price tag, just enjoy the view and company!
